So... WAR ( A independent survey of the state of the game)

Alright, so the beta is drawing to a close Sunday, but before it ends i want to ask the community on they're thoughts of the game. Pretty much what this game has done, changed, innovated, done wrong, bad decisions ETC. Pretty much any thing negative or positive that the game has done.

I give this game a 5. It`s nothing  special and has a short life span IMO but that`s just my opinion.I am from the old school and prefer the sandbox type mmorpg like EQ1/vANGUARD.

I will play war as a casual counter strike type pvp game but keep my Vanguard sub for some more deep meaningful mmorpg.

Comments: Overall, based on my beta and preview weekend experiences, I'd say Warhammer is a great game, I've been having a tremendous amount of fun with it in the first tier alone, and I haven't even explored all of the first zones yet. The story is well written through the Tome chapters and quest dialogues, the lore fits well with things like the Noteworthy Persons and Beastiary entries, there are interesting little NPC scripts running in Warcamps and cities that are fun to watch, the RVR is absolutely fantastic and smooth (so far I've only experienced minor lag in 50 vs 50+ battles), and the game being as casual-friendly as it is makes it a breath of fresh air for me. I have high hopes that they'll be expanding the PVE side of Warhammer in the future, but until then I might consider subscribing to WAR just for the amazing RVR, while playing another game for more social and PVE fun. I admire their attempts to create an RVR focused game with a very beleivable world and PVE elements, but that side of the game falls just a little short for me, and the graphics are a slight turn off as well.

Still, I would recommend Warhammer to anyone interested in a casual-friendly, fun, RVR based fantasy game.

Graphics ( Visually appealing or no?): 7,

a lot better since the recent patch

UI ( action bars, healthbars, etc): 8.

Better than a lot of games. *cough* AoC*cough*

Preformance ( smoothness / how well the game runs): 9.

Ain't had no problems with performance so far, but then again running on a high end computer, don't know how the lower computers would do.

    PvP (Player versus player):9

Had a lot of fun with the scenarios and RvR. Supposedly warhammers strengths. Sieging looks good fun.

PvE ( Player versus Enviroment): 5?

Public quests make questing a bit more interesting, has your typical generic quests such as "kill 10 boars" and all that. Haven't tried any of the dungeons or anything yet, but heard PvE is lacking.

Class balance ( Does everyone have an equal chance):7?

Ain't seen any classes grossly overpowered, but then again ain't had too much of a chance to play. Everything seems in order.

Itemization( Are stats used effectivly/ Is your gear helping you): 8.

After the disaster that was AoC itemisation I'm glad to see that items are somewhat beneficial to your character. Whether or not it will be to the WoW extent of steamrolling newbies remains to be seen.

Professions / Crafting ( Is it a grind or is it something great): 4.

2 crafting professions and boring gathering. Pretty dissapointing.

Lore Implementation ( Is the lore present / used effectively): 6?

Dunno much about Warhammer lore to be honest.

Threat in the Genre ( Can this game be a formidable force in the MMO Genre?): 8.

Not formidable, Blizz won't lose any sleep at night but I'm sure it will make for stiff competition. 2nd in mmorpgs would be great.

Comments: Its a fun game and it will appeal to casuals and hardcore pvp fans. They made many classes much more enjoyable to play like tanks and healers

Graphics ( Visually appealing or no?): 7 - Sure the game isn't the greatest looking but it does look pretty good if you force AA/AF.

UI ( action bars, healthbars, etc): 10

Preformance ( smoothness / how well the game runs):7

    PvP (Player versus player): 10

PvE ( Player versus Enviroment): 5 - If the mob pathing didn't suck ass this would be a 9 or 10, but I'm sick of getting shot through walls.

Class balance ( Does everyone have an equal chance): 10(I know this game isn't balanced for solo PvP but in group PvP it seems balanced)

Itemization( Are stats used effectivly/ Is your gear helping you): This isn't what itemization means and I don't want no damn gear centric WoW shit fest. 10

Professions / Crafting ( Is it a grind or is it something great): 9

Lore Implementation ( Is the lore present / used effectively): 9

Graphics ( Visually appealing or no?): 5 - Looks slightly out-of-date, some things are downright ugly and a few animations are weak. Functional over form I guess and future patches could bolster this.

UI ( action bars, healthbars, etc): 7 - Great, but could be more stylized and have a more innovative combat system.

Preformance ( smoothness / how well the game runs): 9 - A few glitches but it's early days so I'm very impressed.

PvP (Player versus player): 10 - I doubt this could get much better tbh.

PvE ( Player versus Enviroment): 10 - Not what many people will buy the game for but it seems fine to me; not tried any dungeons yet though ofc.

Class balance ( Does everyone have an equal chance): 10 - Not seen any class getting pwned too badly yet so looks good so far, but still only played tier 1.

Itemization( Are stats used effectivly/ Is your gear helping you): 7 - Stats seem to have little effect so far, but the kit defo helps.

Professions / Crafting ( Is it a grind or is it something great): ? - Can't answer this yet.

Lore Implementation ( Is the lore present / used effectively): 10 - Yes, I like this a lot. No bloody aliens/interdimensional crap in this game so far!

Threat in the Genre ( Can this game be a formidable force in the MMO Genre?): 8 - It's piles of fun so it should be. However, if AoC gets it's act together or the likes of Aion or TCoS provide something special (given their graphical advantages) it could slip down the ranks fast. It'll certainly hold casual PvPer's for a long time.

    Comments:

I like this game; it's simple but very effective. There are glitches but nothing on the scale of AoC and nothing that detracts from the pleasure of playing the game. Technically however, it strikes me as being a tad dated. I was primarily attracted by the PvP options but aside from that it doesn't really offer anything novel to lure gamers away from stalwarts like WoW. Despite the obviously casual slant to the game, I can also see expansions coming thick and fast for this - just a feeling. If casual PvP is your bag, it's tha bomb!

Comments: I tend to not give high scores easily, so I reserve 9s and 10s for exceptional games. That said, the game is decent overall, but it's nothing extraordinary or exceptional either.

Graphics ( Visually appealing or no?): 7, some animations and such could use some(even alot) of work but overall Im liking the graphics, they fit the Warhammer style

UI ( action bars, healthbars, etc):10, Customization is amazing, vertually everything can be changed/edited.  Keys can be remapped to your style and great use of hotkeys.

Preformance ( smoothness / how well the game runs): 8, Great so far, some loading hickups when entering new zones but overall pretty smooth

PvP (Player versus player): 10, brings back the feeling of DAoC RvR and im loving it, also adds to that feeling expanding on alot of good things from different games.  Scenarios are fun and there are plenty of them to try if you dislike them, expecially as you level.

PvE ( Player versus Enviroment):6, ok since its not a PvE based game but alot of the npcs are a joke, as a healer at some points can solo a champoin or 2-3 normal with no problem at all.  Public quests are a great new way of doing it, havent tried any dungeons and am curios to see what theyre like.

Class balance ( Does everyone have an equal chance): 9 Group ballance seems great, some indevidual classes could use some tweaks but overall pretty ballanced.

Itemization( Are stats used effectivly/ Is your gear helping you): 10, so far seems to me implemented perfectly, the items contribute to the point where you can notice a difference but are in no way overpowering compared to skill.

Professions / Crafting ( Is it a grind or is it something great): ?, dabbed into it a bit but havent seen much to judge.  Does seem to me more interactive and less likely to be botted which is great.

Lore Implementation ( Is the lore present / used effectively):  9, from what little I know about the Warhammer universe it seems flawlessly integrated.  You can explore to see more content and lore if you want but even if you done, the lore is still noticeable and there.  Each of the areas (empire vs chaos, highelves vs darkelfs, ect) have a unique feel to them.

Threat in the Genre ( Can this game be a formidable force in the MMO Genre?): 9  I think this game has ALOT of potential but it all depends on how it is recieved and how mythic will handle it (which I am in no way worried about.)  I can definetly see this game as a strong second to WoW, but doubt it will ever pass it.

Graphics ( Visually appealing or no?): 8 - Much better than WoW in just about every aspect.  Nothing like AoC or Aion, but since it is geared towards large-scale PvP, what would one expect?  Excellent lighting and atmospheric detail.  It's not that it is visually appealing, it is the implementation.  I constantly felt like I was in iminent danger in some areas of the map.

UI ( action bars, healthbars, etc): 10 - I don't know what the rest of you are smoking.  Maybe some of you guys haven't played around with the UI in WAR, but if you aren't aware.. there is a full blown layout editor.  You can move EVERy single item on the screen, you can resize them, you can remove them.  There has never been such customization in any MMO game EVER.  WoW made you download mods that typically didn't work after most patches, WAR actually does most of it in game.

Preformance ( smoothness / how well the game runs): 9 - This didn't get a 10 because I crashed once in Altdorf, in the war barracks area.  Lots of NPC's moving about.  I didn't experience any lag or crashes out in the questing areas.  There were few minor bugs, such as mobs porting acrossed the screen, or mobs that would be temporarily out of range or out of my line of sight.  Even with those problems, I had a blast.

PvP (Player versus player): 9 - I was presented with limited world PvP, random encounters in the wilderness, and a weak scenerio.  I've never liked scenarios, I think it's a poor excuse for PvP, but I will say that this is when the game got me excited.  The world PvP was AWESOME.  Finding someone outside in random areas and killing them is AWESOME.  WoW doesn't give you that feeling, because it doesn't mean anything.  In WAR, it means everything!  Because of the scenarios, this didn't get a 10.  And, I haven't seen any of the keep and fortress sieging.

PvE ( Player versus Enviroment): 7 - Everything you would expect.  Quests are similar to most MMO's.  Mostly meaningless, but they all have an affect on tier control.  Public Qiests is a lot more fun than anticipated.  A great way to get rewards, and you don't even need to finish them to get enough PQ XP for the top rewards.

Class balance ( Does everyone have an equal chance): 8 - I haven't noticed any classes to be overpowering in my experience as a Warrior Priest.  Some people think WP's are a bit overpowered.. which may be true.  But, I like to think that I have some skills in PvP, thus.. I haven't lost a 1v1 duel yet.. in about 7-8 fights.  Well, I lost one, but it was against a Black Ork that was 3 levels above me.  Nothing is overpowered when they are overwhelmed by enemies.

Itemization( Are stats used effectivly/ Is your gear helping you): 7 - This is mostly a crapshoot.  I don't think anyone really knows or not.  According to my player stat sheet, everything seems to affect something.  But I doubt many people have actually tested this thoroughly enough to say it without a shadow of a doubt.  Gear is definately helping though.  I notice small improvements here and there.. and especally if it's a new weapon.

Professions / Crafting ( Is it a grind or is it something great): 5 - This is the part that really got on my nerves.  It's really the only part of the game that I thought really needed help/  There are two professions.  One is socketing gems(WoW), yeah, I know they are called Talismans in WAR.  But, it's pretty much the same idea.  The other is Alchemy, called Cultivating?  You make potions.  Potions are vital in WAR.  There is no armor or weapon crafting in the game.  No Ballistic carpentry or the like.  No enchantments of items.  I know they want the game to be focused on war, but they really could have put more into this at launch.  It's a very weak area, I didn't expect it to be this bad.  We can hope for more in free expansions with the areas, capitols, and classes that were cut from launch.  I guess...

Lore Implementation ( Is the lore present / used effectively): 9 - I don't know much about WAR lore.  But I do have the ability to rate this based on what I see in the game.  Just about every quest has a page backstory.  You can sit for long periods of time reading the unlocked content of about everything in the game that you've come across.  It's pretty solid in my opinion.

Threat in the Genre ( Can this game be a formidable force in the MMO Genre?): 9 - Some people are WoW fanbois, some people are just ignorant.  This is NOT a niche game.  What do you think WoW is about?  Yeah, Blizzard took this to games workshop way back when.  It was straight out rejected.  No one knows about that?  WoW is based on WAR lore, at least it was meant to be.  If WAR can survive the first 3 months without huge shortcomings in the end-game areas of the game, it will last for a long time.  We played open beta through about half of the content, it's the other half that you have to be worried about.  But make no mistake, if it survives that period of time, it will challange WoW.  It might not bury it in obscurity, but it will leave a HUGE dent in the armor.  That's for sure.

    Comments:
Overall Score - 8.5 - And I'm only rating what I played.  And this is only the open beta.  I'm sure things will improve dramatically over the next few major patches.
