I know I get inf by doing PQs and doing RvR but I don't know how renoun works or if there is a way to see your inf progress. There is a renoun bar but getting inf doesn't seem to move it. I've been doing pq and I notice I'm renoun 2 and 72% to 3. But having been farming inf in a pq i'm not seeing any movement in this bar. Also the rally vendor shows prizes and I know inf unlocks them but again is there a bar somewhere that shows my progress towards elite?
If there is a good explaination on the web somewhere just send me to a link I've looked for something specific but haven't found anything.

It's quite simple:
In WAR your character has two "levels" the XP level and the Renown level. You gain XP through PvP and PvE and you gain Renown exclusively through PvP.
Renown level (or rank) can never exceed your XP rank. So if you're Rank 13 Swordmaster your Renown Rank cannot be more than 13.
XP rank gives you core abilities and masteries (like wow talent trees) while Renown gives you renown unlocks that you can buy for Renown points - 1 per level. Those unlocks give you all kinds of nice buffs to stats or strange skills that you can use. You can respecc both masteries and Renown abilities so don't worry too much about it.
In addition Renown rank determines what kind of gear you can buy from Renown Gear Merchants. This is really awesome gear that you should always take advantage of. At T1 it is better than almost anything else in the game and quite easy to obtain. It seems that later on good Renown gear isn't that trivial to come by but at T1 it is the best.
You can advance up to XP Rank 40 and up to Renown Rank 80. Leveling XP seems to be quite fast so far and it will take you about the same time as leveling in WoW for example. Renown leveling is quite a bit slower - devs said that it'll take a year of dedicated playing to reach RR 80... and they'll probably increase the Renown Rank cap before than.
Influence... is like WoW reputation... however it is much more limited in scope and easier to achieve. Influence is gained through PvE and is tied to a certain portion of a map - called a "Chapter". Most influence for the particular chapter is gained through Public Quests there. You can always return to a certain Chapter and grind up the needed influence if you really want some of the cool rewards offered by your local Rally Master. Influence is not really that important and it is really easy to achieve max influence if you do nothing but PvE.
Thanks for the great reply but I have a couple questions
1. You say you can only get renoun by doing RvR but I've never done RvR and my renoun is 2 and 72%? On my other character is was 4 and he never did rvr either.
2. You say that renoun lvl can't exceed xp level but then say max xp level is 40 and renoun lvl is 80. I'm assuming this rule no longer applies when your xp hits the cap at 40?

You get renown from certain quests also that take you into RvR territory, also Scenarios give Renown.
Most likely you were in the a zone when others took the pvp objectives in the RVR area. When that happens everyone in the zone gets some rp's and a buff
1. Yeah, it seems that you can get renown from gaining Victory Points for your realm... In WAR you can help in RvR by doing PvE - for example PQs usually count towards zone control. Killing that evil mob dragon is helping your side win as well - each time it is killed your faction gets some VPs just like killing enemy players or taking their RvR keeps.
2) Yep, the rule works only till rank 40. After that you advance primarily through Renown... however there are other ways to advance as well, especially for PvE - Tome Unlocks for killing certain numbers of mobs give you buffs against those types of enemies for example. Performing various "heroic" tasks may give you access to strange new buffs and abilities as well. We'll have to wait a bit till the game gets properly explored because high-level ToK unlocks are pretty much a mystery right now.

To above poster: yep thet could be the case as well. What I do know is that doing PvE quests does help your side gain VPs... However whether it translates into some trickle renown is not really certain. Seems logical though..

Well I've definitely gotten renoun without doing any PvP or even being in an RvR zone... My lvl 4 dwarven engineer like I say has 2.72 renoun while my white lion character has 0 and my maurader at lvl 6 had 4+... Doing PQs doesn't give Renoun points even if successful. My white lion chracter did one several times and still has no renoun... I'm just trying to figure out the rhyme or reason to it as I didn't notice when I got these renoun points so I'm not sure what I did to get them
