admin eluded to end of f2p. When will it happen? Didn't say but, as the game stands now, they can't possibly charge anyone without some significant work (unless they want it to close again). The good news is the new owner(s) seem to have a serious interest in giving this game its due. The bad news is... well there is none since Ryzom is back and free to check out :)

So, ok, have fun the wherever you may go although its sad to see you go.

From what I read from the few statements the new owners gave so far, they´ll be trying hard to update the core engine and undo those bugs that still trouble us as soon as they get p2p again. Maybe even right before it. It would be the only logical thing to do in their situation. Its the only way to keep the game alive and make p2p at least a bit understandable.

If they don´t, then I´ll cry no tear for those who´ll leave, for they will again be the games undoing. They´ll get only one chance at saving it from ultimate doom in my opinion. So let´s hope they´re up to it and don´t become idiotic "Pwners" again, instead of responsible "Owners" they should be.

Ryzom, we dare to be different.
    Do you dare to adapt?

I'd be rather surprised if the new owners did not figure in their plans that a great many of the "i'll play anything decent if its free" crowd will leave once the game returns to a P2P basis. What they have accomplished is getting the game some great exposure. Besides many of us veterans returning it seems we have picked up a great many new believers by this extended period of free play.

But, i am one vet that cannot wait till the game goes P2P and some of the less desirable players on the game will leave and not return since its the old adage of leaving the door open to see what walks in.

Thankfully those that have stated they will stay are the kind of great players we've become accustomed to dealing with in our community and will be great assets to Atys.

well, I can only wish ryzom the best when it comes p2p. I hope it will not go offline again

It's just sad to see such a nice game like this go away. Athough I have to admit I will not pay when it goes

p2p again, I think I go back to lotro or wow then. I just stay for a while now to try it out, and I enjoy my time on Atys :-) But I think the game will survive now. It has a verry loyal playerbase, and lots of people have played the game now in it's f2p period so I think some will also stay :)

What I don't understand is how people say that Ryzom is a great game, yet they don't want to pay for it. How do they expect it to survive if it doesn't generate income ?

It's already been established that a cash shop would hardly fit in a game where 99% of the gear is player-crafted. It's already been debated 5 times a day and said many times the Veteran community won't stand such a system. The community and the crafting system are two of the assets that make this game truly unique and both are quite... incompatible (if not litterally hostile) to the micro-payment system.

If Ryzom goes P2P, of course it will lose players, but it will keep the most loyal ones, the ones that truly like the game and are willing to pay for it.

If Ryzom goes F2P with Micropayments, It might have more players, but the risk is that the Veterans will leave : the most loyal players that possess the knowledge of the game, the hardcore crafters, the generous helpers that answer questions in Uni chat, that welcome newbies with open arms and guide them. Who will remain to show the newcommers what Atys is all about ? Will Atys still be Atys, the planet of helpful and generous homins ? Maybe the generosity will still spread, but how many homins will remain that will still be willing to pay real money for the game to keep it alive ?

F2P without Micropayments : Err, as far as I know, money doesn't grow on trees and hosting game servers is not free, new game content even less... no matter how you look at it, I have a hard time seeing Ryzom survive this way, no matter how many people play it. If anything, the more people playing, the more bandwith taken; the more it will cost in hosting fees alone.

Yes, I'm biased, but why would someone that likes the game and wants it to survive, pay for WoW or LotRO but not Ryzom ? Isn't a good game with a truly original world and some unique features worth paying for ? To be honest, I'd rather pay for Ryzom than any other game, but that's just me... and a couple hundread of die-hard Veterans.

Perhaps it would be better to say Ryzom has the potential to be a great game. It has a long way to go to get to P2P quality. A great community does not make a great game, as much as we'd all like that to be true.

It's been said before and it'll continue to be said until they get it right or the game dies again: a sandbox is one thing; a sandbox with absolutely no goals or direction is another. The amount of people willing to pay to make their own content is very limited, and incapable of providing enough funds to sustain life.

I do not disagree with the potential, and I do not disagree with the fact that Ryzom might lack some attracting content. I do however fail to see how goals and directions should obligatorly be spoonfed to the player.

My point is that, the initial investment made by the new owners is not unlimited, and they will need an income from the player base at some point to generate new content. Maybe 15$ a month is too high for what the game currently has to offer, but the game will still have to generate a positive income and for that it needs players that will be willing to pay for it, people that like it as it IS and that have enough trust in the growth of its potential. A smaller population of paying customers will still generate more income than thousands of freeloaders, unfortunately.

Before they start billing us, I do agree that they will have to tell us who they are and what they intend to do with our money, but as long as the game is free, they can pretty much do whatever they want with THEIR money.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as they keep that good habit of not making false promises and actually getting things done in reasonable delays, they can have my money. (From what I've seen up to now, they've been MUCH better than Failcom in doing so. ).

Both are already great, but that's just my biased opinion. Great, however, doesn't mean that it cannot be better. I just have a hard time seeing how it can be improved without an income to generate new content. At some point, billing will HAVE to resume.

There was an announcement today on the official ryzom forums that it will remain F2P at least until the end of october if not longer.
