Hello all fellow MMORPGers! Figured that I could reach as many as possible on this, and I hope you all hear me and take heed! I was foolish enough to buy currency online from a website, and after paying the company the 70.00 US on Paypal for the 500,000 gil on FFXI, the seller never sent it to me, and never responded to my E-mails. After trying repeatedly to contact them, and filing a complaint with Paypal, I received a response from Paypal stating that I was out of luck! The website was gamesupersales.com, and the user was Robert Engime. I hope you all don't get scammed like I did, and beware of people like this who try to rip us off!

Thanks for the warning, however anyone who buys mmrpg stuff with real world money deserves to get shafted.

agree also.
against the EULA too, that person is profiting off something he didn't make, and he doesn't "own" anything in the game.

Never had trouble with paypal, if you lose money its from the person you gave it too, you GAVE it too them, there isnt much anyone else can do, paypal just a way to transfer it.
Its your fault for getting scammed, its interesting what imagitive ways people come up with to scam. Paypal is not credit card company that can freeze transactions and such.
However, how did u even managed to buy anything from them when their website states this:
Due to server instability the site will be offline for a short period of time. We WILL be making deliveries, however, we will not accept new orders. Any orders placed online will be immediatly refunded. We apologize for the inconvience to anyone looking forward to purchasing from us, and reccomend you to our affiliate, www.IGE.com. The navigation system has been disabled, please do not attempt to utilize it or report the problem to us. This was done intentionally. We WILL be selling off our remaining stock for 1/2 price during our down time! You will have to arrange the transaction over the telephone. You can contact us 100% free at 248-302-3327, by asking for Ron or Erik from the sales department. Remember, EVERYTHING is half off, including accounts! Everything must go before we restock!
All the links were down on that site as well as all the navigational buttons. How did you managed to buy gil? Did you call them?

I have been using paypal for 2+ years and I use it constantly without trouble. Like a previous poster said it is a means to transfer not a form of money. All they do is link your checking account with their service so that you can take money directly from it and send it directly to another user. It is nearly the same as wire transfers only there are no banks involved. If you lose money on paypal it is with the person you are dealing with and not PayPal's fault.

I agree with you here. Even though it is frowned upon by others to buy virtual items (Which I share that feeling as well) it is still sad to see that someone was ganked out of the deal. Hope you can get the situation resolved. If not, we all learn from our mistakes.
Thanks for the warning, but I would never do such a thing. If the mmorpg I play is fun, I will fight, battle and kill for money without having the money on my mind. I do it in the FF games. I enjoy battles soo much that I end up with a crap load of money. give me 50 potions and im off!
Now Morrowind . . .gotta steal and kill . . .(mostly steal)
I'm sorry for you man, but it boggles my mind why you did it. Dude, you got to learn not to give trust over the net, etc. and paying 70.00 bucks for somthing in a game?! Come on buddy. . . COME ON! . . . You know what I can do for $70 bucks?
. . . . . I'm very sorry but . . . man . . . you dissipoint me.

Did you even read the whole story of Paypal or the ongoing nightmare stories in the forum or the what the website has to say?
Sure, nothing bad happen yet. but you'll never know when one day something will happen.

To be honest I only read about the first third. Everything I read made me just tisk and ignore the rest. My faith in the online community as a whole is a lot lower than my faith in PayPal so I'm more likely to stand with PayPal.
As for when I never know something might happen, well that can be applied to life in general. Gee, never know when I might win the lotto. Or maybe someday a cruise ship will drop outta the sky and land on me while I'm walking down the street. Things happen...they happen to all of us but considering my personal experience and the experience of the many users I am in touch with that I know to be reputable I'm not expecting any of these things claimed by a bunch of people I don't know to happen.
As an Edit: After reading some more of the PayPal sucks site...well I read every bit of the fine print just as I do with anything concerning money or the transfer of money. It all made perfect sense to me and I understood and accepted what they put forward. I'm sorry if you didn't understand or read the fine print but it isn't PayPal's fault.

Noone deserves to be shafted out of hard earned money. I have transfered characters across servers and paid money to be with friends in game i know i wouldve been very pissed had the company screwed me. Thanks for the warning man.
. . . . . I'm very sorry but . . . man . . . you dissipoint me.
You'll change your mind when you make near 5 grand in an online game after you're tired of it and might as well take up some extra cash as well.
Then you'll love people like that. Well, not people like that, but people like that that have more money.

Thanks for the replies...Didn't want to get sympathy or frown on Paypal, just giving you the warning about this site, and person. I bought from the website and wanted to warn against anyone else trying to do this. THEIR IS NO SECURE WAY TO PROTECT YOUR MONEY, and jsut work work for it, and you'll feel better in the end. P.S. I bought the currency and then when I filed the complaint, he told Paypal that I was part of a massive webring designed to scam his company. I just felt ripped off, and wanted to warn fellow MMORPG'ers to not be as naive as myself. Lesson learned. Cheers to all who responded.
Just want to throw my 2 cents in here about Paypal.
They may just be a means of transfering money, but let someone give you money from a stolen credit card. Paypal will try to take the money back from you, even if it has been months since the transfer. My account went -$800 a few years back, and I have not used my account since. Some guy paid me with a stolen credit card, is it my fault Paypal accepted a stolen card? I don't think so.
But they did. They put my account balance to over $800 negative and expected me to deposit money in to bring it to zero.
Yeah right, I laughed at them pretty hard. They called me a few times. But not only is Paypal not a bank, but they do not even have the capability to affect your credit report. They couldn't even send it to a collection agency because they had no leg to stand on. But they insisted that I owe them $800.
Haven't used PayPal since. Kinda sucks though, now that eBay owns it and it is almost the only way to buy anything on eBay, unless you buy from a store and they can accept credit cards directly.
Good responses to all the comments. I was just pissed that someone would scam others like this. The website was up and running until two days after I got my confirmation payment notification. I was new to Ebay, and when I saw the offer on the site, I asked my brother, and he said he would gladly pay me that amount for the hours he put into for the game to make the currency.
Hopefully in the future, they adopt a method of confirmation to verify the procedure. (I.E. Screenshot of company sending you the gil, etc) so that this scam can be avoided. I was just upset that I was ignored by the guys running it, and they managed to use the system to beat me. Bastards. Live and learn. I hope you all know the person and the company so no one else gets ripped by them. Cheers...
I could argue more but i already said what i said and would be repeating myself heh.
Just don't see it right people to profit off a game, made for fun, and they cheat the game mechanics anyway they can to amass profit. Any day the mechanics could change/get fixed/balanced, and their profit could drop a lot. And you profitting off someone elses property in a way. Yah repeating myself. The amount of money people spend to get stuff, you can easily get eventually in the game, and over that time have fun doing other stuff that eventually helps gets whatever you wanted. But people bypass the system and pay for cash so they can be uber 1337 dudes early ona nd have the best stuff so they can.... get more best stuff and .... yah, MMORPGs getting kinda boring, well the item oriented ones i guess. I have fun obtaining the items myself in game and taking on hrad creatures.
Why do you care?
If they make money off of something that is supposed to be fun. Kudos to them. All the more power to em.
If we all could make a living off of something we enjoy, now that'd be a wonderous job. And why you whine about somone that actually has found a way to make money, and have fun at the same time, is beyond me.

Here we come again... famous Ebay vs MMORPG economy fight!
I don't like from ebaying, because:
a) It is not fun to play with high-level noobs, who don't know how to walk from point A to point B.
b) Because it will raise item prices in player economy - and thus I need to do more "work" to buy items from other players.
c) Those who have enough money in real life - also have enough money in virtual life... and those who don't have enough money in real life...
d) High level and other high level items are status symbols that should be earned, not something that you can buy from nearest EBay reseller.
Fully agree on this. If I need to choose between two jobs, I am sure that I am going to take job that is more enjoyable - even if salary is significally poorer. Unfortunately it seems like that most of fellow workers haven't done this way... Do you know how awful is to work with programmers if they aren't motivated to their work?

You think those people are having fun? For some games its just bots that amass the wealth, some just find a hole in the system and exploit it till its fixed, and a bunch obtain items they can't do solo and gather them just to sell, when people with them would rather have used it in game to make their game more fun. They do it to make money, not to have fun. Just like any job as you described.
I find it by no means fun to sit there and kill the easiest possible overcamped mob there is to get wealth, camp bosses for drops to sell. Then once they change it, they find a other place in game to do the same. They found a way to make money off someone elses work and it is not what they intended to make it for.
Hell i could just go on DAOC now and play a necro with bot, and kill every encounter solo, farm for cash, or plv accounts to sell. Not that hard, anyone can easily do it for any game, and if it was fun, everyone be doing it.

When I came back to EQ a year or so ago, after deleting my original account level 58 druid and all, I said screw it, went to playerauctions.com and plunked down $20 dollars or whatever it was for 10k plat. I then equipped myself as nicely as I could, and started playing again. Had I started from scratch, I wouldn't have made it past my free 30 days.
While I wouldn't do so going into a game for the first time, I see no problem buying ingame currency, or items even if you're coming back to the game after a while away, and don't feel like playing catchup. It's no different than getting items or cash handed to you by friends that play the game in my opinion.
For whatever it's worth I went through Yantis(mysupersales.com) for the transaction, and had no troubles. This was before they sold out to IGE, though. So I have no clue how reliable they are now. I know the owner of the company made a pretty penny when he sold it off to IGE. And as an industry they make big bank off it. Big enough that Sony has gotten in on the deal for the playstation online games. Not sure if, or when they will follow suit in their MMO's, though with all the money passing hands, I'm very surprised they haven't done it for EQ yet. I'm sure many people would go through SOE, over some stranger on the net. I know EA is/was doing something like that for UO where you could buy a 7x GM character or something to that effect.
