A question for anyone who has the inside info from MR: How heavily will the lore be integrated into gameplay? There is already a sizeable amount of background info to the game being written by Kitterwen and others, and with 8-9 months until the game's official release, I would assume quite a bit more to come. Are there any concerns about the moderate-to-non RPer not being able to integrate into a highly detailed society, especially since Wish is on a single, persistent server?

Obviously, the lore is being written to help augment the game play and to give a backstory to the game itself. Those of us who role-play will role-play these things, but that doesn't mean that they're making the game so that you -must- role-play.
They're creating a system that should "encourage" role-playing, but it will not be enforced.
I'm not sure if I answered your concern in that regard, but I hope I helped out a bit.

Jenni, I think that answers my question pretty well. Actually, it would seem that MR is making it difficult NOT to RP in some fashion. Since there may be context to most actions, it may be difficult for the "kill everything, get loot"-style of player to figure out how go about behaving in such a manner. Not that there isn't a place for that type of gamer, just that it doesn't look like such a player would really understand the underlying story-related motive behind the majority's behavior and subsequently be "clueless" to the overall context. Sounds promising, putting the RP back into (U)MMORPG.
Umgedreht, I think you've hit it on the head there. I'm seriously hoping that this game continues to 'turn-off' the uber-loot-seeker l33t d00d crowd. I've sort of recently hopped onto the MMORPG scene. I started with SWG, and as a Star Wars fan, I was let down by how it lacked the feeling of being IN the Star Wars universe, because no one would Roleplay it. Or those that did were so few and far between it didn't matter. Since, I've been on Horizons, WoW stress test beta, AC2, AC1, DAoC, and even the mighty Everquest. I never tried UO because they are so outdated graphically, and yes, I'm a bit of a graphics whore.
I think that this place is promising everything I've ever wanted in an RPG, let alone a (U)MMORPG. I know there will still be a lot of the type of player that I dislike, I'm just hoping that they'll finally be outnumbered by the sorts of people who love storylines and good interaction. People who in the "Hype Meter" section of this site that say things like "Ongoing Story.. sounds like lotz of fun. Not." I'm pleased as pie that he hates the idea of this game, and i hope he takes all his l33t d00d friends with him to EQ2 and WoW. That way, I'll stay here with Wish.
I don't mean to be the one to say it but I do like the idea of a mmorpg being rp, but don't get surprised and disgusted that the occasional griefer is still going to be on there. Its too good of a chance for griefers to get into a high rp'er game and run amok as griefers are usually want to do. L33ts (Who like to distance themselves from griefers although the difference between them really isn't that much.) will play simply because they have to be the best at every game and care nothing for the content. For every fantasy name you'll still have some guy named 'StuDdEmoN69' on the game.
This would, in my opinion, be a good chance for rpers to have their own game as long as they have the lasting power to stay in the game long enough for gr334s and l33ts to get tired of it.
Mithras' prediction may well come to pass, but one of the issues we discussed in this thread is that the Wish "system" seems to discourage other types of players (i.e. griefers) to the point where they have no choice BUT to RP in some fashion. A few specific examples come to mind. The exponential-"law of diminishing returns"-style of character levels seem to point to the necessity of grouping for missions. The live team, all of whom are basically RPers, instancing missions that involve a bit more than FedExing or hunting. The MR team's plan for what appears to be regularly staged events over entire areas, involving everyone within the area.
I don't know if, as the system is currently set up, Wish encourages RP to take away or make unnoticeable the "grind", or if the RP element is in some way essential for advancement and in what magnitude. I agree that this is a good chance for RPers to own the game, but it is still just a chance. As with any ORPG, it is both the community and the admin that make the game, so time will tell what kind of subscriber base Wish garners. I'm hopeful, I'll play the beta if and when invited, then decide whether it's worth the $nn.nn a month. I do hope to see some of you there as well; bring your RP friends.
Didn't mean to sound like the prophet of doom there , just beta'd quite a few games and its been my experience that this is the normal chain of events. I'd love for one of the designers to speak about the importance of the background story and roleplaying in the game. If there is an article on it and I've happened to miss it, please let me know
