THe only real difference is the game came come on 2 dvds or 8 to 10 cds. So you really are just saving yourself space and less of a chance of losing a disc and maybe having a faster install if you have a dvd-rom and buy the dvd version. I went for the dvd version myself.
I chose DVD. There is no difference between the CD and DVD (except if you're counting the Collector's Edition) besides for how many disks you are going to have to mess with. As of right now SOE has been saying the retail game will be probably around 10 GBs of information. Considering the fact that CD's can hold only about 750 MBs of information it will take around 10 CDs to install the game. This just means when you first install the game you have to fool around with switching the disks back and forth. This isn't really terrible but if you ever need to re-install the game down the road, it might be a little hard to keep track of 10+ disks and hope none of them get scratched. Considering that it's the same price and you'll have to deal with around only 2 disks, the DVD sounds like a much more logical choice. (if you have access to a DVD player)
I'll probably get the DVD version just because I hate dealing with so many discs. I just reinstalled EQ1 last week and it took me a while to install the game plus all the expansions. I'll have to move my dvd-rom drive to my main machine again but that will be less of a headache than switching 10+ discs.
