I think I figured out the 415k number

Maybe FC has a way of detecting who hasnt uninstalled yet even though they cancelled? So its active subs, buddy passes and number of systems its installed on?

It would make sense given FC's marketing history, lol

Oh and since I finally got around to it 414,999

From what I read in the Funcom second quarter report that number is from approximately June 30th (end of the 2nd quarter) which would put AoC at losing about 7500 - 10k subscribers a day at that time depending on whose estimate of initial subscribers you believe. Assuming that rate of decline has stabilized, they probably have 150k subscribers left.

You are giving it far to much thought OP. Funcom simply counts all people who are still subscribed. And at the time when they released this information, that was 415k.

At the moment it will be a bit less, and in 6 months from now it will be a lot less when all the 6 month subscriptions run out. It will likely stay stable at around 200k, wich will be enough to keep the game going for a while.

Sad, but so true.  I was another disapointed fan of this game and would like to see this "company" go bankrupt.

But that is not going to be the case.  Look at EQ2..... 4 yrs on a solid 250,000 - 300, 000 subs..(I think im being generous)  and dont get me wrong, I love EQ2... been playing since the begining.  My point is that your absolutely right; 200, 000 subs is more than enough to keep the game going for a long time.

The difference is that Sony did not go into debt to make EQ2, and Sony has other major sources of income.   You can't compare Sony to Funcom.  Funcom has one real product (AOC) they are in major debt, and they are losing money every day keeping AOC running.    EQ2 was a small part of Sony,  AoC IS funcom.

The company/game will be shut down early 09, the announcement willl come with the 3rd quarter stock report.

Actually that is 415,000 subscribers and yes it was partly new box sales too but by August 14th most people had already bought the game so it doesnt really matter.  Eitherway just because fewer people are playing their ACTIVE ACCOUNTS now doesnt mean there are less subscribers it just means people arent as hardcore about it but that will ramp up soon with xbox and expansion pack which will mean double maybe triple the players and server queues all over again.

Your best bet is to quit chasing windmills and pulling up old posts mentioning AOC's failure. How are you helping them by doing this?

you should see they have Age of Conan, Longest Journey, Dreamfall (liked this game), AND anarchy online, that used to be so successful and have lasted since 2001. so i guess AoC should still be able to last.

Yes everything FUNCOM has ever released has ended up doing pretty well even if it got off to a rocky starts like AO did admittedly but hey it helped them get enough money to release Age of Conan so they must have done something right.

I loved playing AO back in the day, and Dreamfall was a fun game too so I'm not a Funcom hater. But really, you are being ridiculous with all this spamming. Take it down a notch, change your name and people will take you more seriously.

Isnt technically spamming when you post on a subject with a) no real insight and b) you dont address the topic I do both and ya this forum is sorta slow and there are many things about AoC that I like to talk about but if you look at how much time I take between posts (and the average length) that I am not cluttering up the boards for the sake of it.  Instead I just try and talk about the subjects which interest me which given the improvements in the game makes it hard for me to hide my excitement!
