Ive been playing WAR for a few weeks now in beta and now in the prestart thing and will give it at least a month before I decide on it but one thing I do know is I hope all the pvpers come to WAR so WoW can focus on PvE. I never pvp in WoW mainly because its pointless, boring and the same thing for 3 years almost so of course its annoying to constantly have classes buffed/nerfed for the pvp crybabies so I hope WAR does well, we should all want it to do well. Bliz needs some competition and to get knocked off their high horse.
On a side note I must say that for those of you who sit in BGs all night in wow you're doing yourselves a disservice by not giving WAR a try, I can't stand to pvp in wow and in WAR Im constantly queuing up for scenarios(Bgs) in between my questing and Ive only tried 1 so far in the tier 1 content. There are realm vs realm areas out in the open where you take over different objectives and your whole realm gets buffs when you control it and believe me its a lot more fun than lolsand or the halaa BS. I haven't seen the keep sieges and whatever else is at the later levels but this game is a lot of fun and I might just have to play it and Wotlk when it comes out.

Tried Lotro yet? The game amazed me from pve and immersion point of views. Too bad the lack of (real) pvp was something I actually didn't like.
My brand new bloggity blog.
I own LOTRO and the lack of pvp doesn't bother me cause I don't care for it much anyway, the main thing about LOTRO is it feels too much like wow in terms of grinding quests and I would grind it out but end game doesn't seem to appeal to me. Im sure Ill resub and play another month sometime to check it out but it just doesn't have that hook for me, same thing with Vanguard, a really amazing game now but I just can't get into it.
OP:
I am one of those campers in BG in Wow (and arena) together with Raids once a week.
I tried WAR for 10 days and it's booooooring for a Wow PvP player. PvP for me is about control on the battlefield. WAR is NOT a world you live in. Period.
Not going into detail, but I already saw enough in the Wow community. Will publish later. But let's say the open Beta and pre release all showed the same stats after 3 days...: Wow players turning it down just like they did with AoC.
You DO realise that such famous scenarios as the dwarf vs greenskins BG is as BIG in WAR as 10%(!) of WSG: you run 30 meters , you fight, you die and respawn, you run 30 meters, you die, respawn, you run 30 meters,….
That complete WAR "scenario" is played on a surface as big as ONE home base of WSG with the respawn at the GY. The flags are hardly 30 meters apart. That and absolutely NO crowd control, makes for a very boring zergfest on 30 meters fighting. How booooring.
Active Wow players won't like the WAR thing a bit. Therefore:....And the last sentence is REAL.
-------
Real PvP?--> Ice blocking a charging warrior, give him the finger and mount. ---> Or mind control that annoying healer and let him jump to his own death. Now, that's PvP.
Every WAR copy sold is free publicity for WotLK.
We'll see this in 2 months time. I have NO doubt about that at all...
PS: for a new MMORPG in EU you always have to look at the German market (most money maker). It is not a very good sign that on 22:00 the 11 German servers of WAR are half at low and not half have the full status.
At the eve of launch where every preorder is supposed to be playing the game at prime time, it's exactly the same trend I saw in open Beta.
Come back within 1 month and I bet - after the initial rush - the game playing time (and server status) will be surprisingly for most fan boys.
You don't sound like you gave WAR much of a chance either, at least I admitted Ive only been in the tier 1 area so far. I personally like that there is very little crowd control in WAR, its stupid in WoW to be CC'd over and over and die before you can even move, and the bigger the groups are the more its a problem. I couldn't imagine a 100v100 battle in WAR with every class having some kinda of fear, trap, stun, etc, it would just be plain stupid.
I think you should give it more of a chance but hey if you want to grind to 80 and sit in AV for another 2 years grinding whatever welfare gear they'll have at 80 go for it.
CC in PvP is called intelligent play. Defending a PvP system with absolutely NO serious short term CC and anti CC is always surprising to me. Because it only means zergfests: biggest group wins.
Since you already answered 3 times on this thread it is very clear which game you'll play the next few weeks.
I wanted to let you know that a lot of WoW PvP players don't like the tactical PvP system presented in WAR.
And why should I grind if I can have my gear in an intelligent way by winning in arena's AND have fun CC in the BG's or open world PvP zone of LW.
The secret of Wow PvP? is the secret of Wow succes ....: My Wow avatar can decide a fight: Yours will merely fill in the gaps. I am the Knight, while you are in the role of the nameless masses.
That was exactly the feeling I had in playing the PVP in those 2 games (that and speed and polishment of course).
Lets be honest. We are all going to be prejudice with which game we prefere. This whole site has turned into the debate of WoW-lovers-hate-WAR and vice versa. I play WAR/EQ2 over WoW, just because I never gave WoW much of a chance beyond lvl 35 in the first year of play.
I guess if your idea of pvp is 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 I can see why you think CC is necessary but since I don't even consider pvping in a box real pvp I guess thats where we disagree. And I think there are plenty of wow pvpers who want tactical pvp, and I also think there are plenty who want to just afk in BGs or lose arena games and still get epics and are fine with that too.
if it's not so equipment-biased then quite possibly WAR will be up my street. But, I have my doubts on this. In fact, it's probably the wrong genre to play to want fair pvp.
Just to throw this out there......
There is a BIT of CC in WAR
It is just not rediculous
A few of the classes i have played have like 8 second speed reductions,
3 second knockdown, and the sorceress, and BW have a short-term AoE snare.
so...CC is there....Its just not as viable as in WoW
Like people have already said, WoW pvp is entirely different than WAR. Someone that likes WoW pvp and is just looking for something different will more than likely hate WAR's pvp style. WoW has too many die-hards that don't want to give up their shiny epics and will never leave.
I would only play Lotro if i could be a dark rider and slaughter hobbits in their own villlage.

I am very glad that your kind does not spawn in War. Cheers.
P.S: please stay in WoW and bring your friends to WoW

Ted Treffon: No, I don't represent that either.

Lets be honest, WoW was in its prime just a few months ago... the game has been ok, Ive always been an EQ fan, so the graphics were a little lame and the community was full of little kids. Im glad theres atleast someone attempting to try something different to atleast suck some of the decent players from WoW (and even some of the trollish kids, but once they find out they can get glowy armour theyll leave). I hope the community is a lot better. The PvP aspect really intrigues me and I hope it wrecks, because Ive heard nothing but good things about it
Let's be honest and wait till you play it for 20 or 30 hours. And then come back.
You only hear good things about it ?
Why do you think I am so confident WotLK will be the biggest hit ever for Blizz after playing with WAR in these last 11 days?
The problem is Wow people who hear Pvp think that WAR will have good Wow PvP. Problem is;.. there isn't any tactical WOW PvP in WAR. It is one group against another. Lag, frame drops and odd behaviour of your opponents (suddenly 10 meters from you due to lag) is not uncommon.
The only thing going for it is that it is "new", But new must also mean better and it is FAR from better than Wow PvP on a tactical side, animation side, speed side, CC, cool down techniques, server side. Not even speaking of the terrible NPC pathing and intelligence here.
I could bash on the game with numerous complaints, but I don't want to do that. It is better if the people who play it feel it for themselves after X days.
You can't convince people if they want to believe. You can only convince them in letting them play and see for themselves what a big difference there lies between "hype" and playing the "hype".
I could say 100 times here that playing a PQ quest is boring after the 3th time and you'd NEVER feel something "epic" in the WAR game, but what is better than that people have their own experiences.
I could say that downing the end boss in a PQ is as challenging as downing the first 2 mobs in a dungeon, but only if you would feel it yourself, you would understand this.
No use of arguing.
I can tell you that the first scenario BG between dwarfs and greenskins plays out on ONE surface of a WSG base (distance from the GY to the building - with the 3 flags and all). But if you didn't play it, you wouldn't even believe it.
Wow, why am I not surprised another WoW player defends its game by saying "You should really play the game before you judge it"... I have.. its a pretty good game, but too many fanbois and the game just feels like E Z mode. I have a level 70 mage, 61 druid and a 50 shaman... the games boring now... really boring. and the thing about PvP is theres always a new challenge. WoW has lacked PvP for a long time and theres finally a new challenger. Im sorry all your friends are leaving WoW, but thats not my fault buddy.
Also... you played for 11 days? wow, so you were in beta... cool.. guess what, if I only played WoW (in beta) for 11 days I would have quit for sure.
Real PvP?--> Ice blocking a charging warrior, give him the finger and mount. ---> Or mind control that annoying healer and let him jump to his own death. Now, that's PvP.

In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
To be honest the PvP of WoW is so different from WAR that it will take quite some time before a WoW player would understand the real concept of how RvR works in Tier 4 zones of WAR.
I personally think that alot of people will stay in WoW and PvP cause they know how that works, while some will transfer over and learn WAR's more "advanced" type of RvR (not Scenario's - but Tier 4 Control Point RvR).
.~?------------------------`~.
WoW won't die.
WAR won't die.
Get over it. Learn to live with the fact that both games are amazing in their own ways.
Let's be honest and wait till you play it for 20 or 30 hours. And then come back.

I'm sorry too, that all your friends or guildmates left Wow, I really am. Pvp in Wow is a joke. CC is overkill. Every 15 year old has a lock, rogue, and ranger.
For the real Pvp fans who enjoy teamwork, rvr, balanced classes, more than 4 bgs, competitiveness - Come to War!!!
The term PvP is wayyy different than RvR.. You really can't compare the 2 systems..
PvP is balanced for mainly 1v1 duels AND the occasional small group vs group skirmishes..
RvR is balanced army vs army.. Each army has select roles that they can play out in a battle like situation. Trust me, there is not a whole lot of 1v1 solo "PvP" in Warhammer, because you will not do too well as a loner. The strength lies in the tactics of your whole army to win.
It all boils down to hich do you prefer, being able to pwn alot of people by yourself for your own personal glory, OR being a smaller part of something bigger and taking part in a battle with an army while just doing your part so everyone else can do theirs and win the fight?
The mechanics are totally different. Thats why WoW has had so many problems balancing their classes for PvP play, because the game was originally centered around a PvE first , PvP later type thing, while WAR was balanced with RvR first..
No matter how much the "legion of WoW" would like to fight over the matter, the two systems dont really appeal to the mainstream of both types.. Soloist pvper's will probably ONLY like the Open RvR ruleset servers in Warhammer where they can Pwn newbs by themselves..
