What will I need to buy game wise?

Once my friend sends me "Recruit a Friend Key" what will I have to buy to be able to play and be ready for WotLK?
I see the $29.99 BC digital upgrade on WorldofWarcraft.com. I know I will need that, but will i also need to purchase the original game or is that now part of the BC upgrade?
If I need both are there any great prices out there for the bundle or is there a WotLK bundle comming?

Assuming you haven't bought anything yet, don't get the $30.00 BC upgrade.
Amazon and Gamestop both have WoW + BC battlechests for $40.00. And that's all you're going to need to be ready for WotLK. Assuming you use a credit card to create the account, it also comes with a free month. On a separate note though, I suggest you create the account with your friend watching or just let him fill in the forms for you. Just in case you mess up somewhere and you guys don't get the RAF bonuses.

And just curious, how did your friend convince you to play exactly? I always feel like a drug dealer every time I try to get one of my friends to....
Honestly, I have played before but was banned quite awhile ago for botting. I just didn't have the time to put in at that point.
Now I have a lil more free time and the 3x xp for the first 60 levels was what put me over the hump, knowing that WotLK on comming soon.
I don't think I will risk botting this time though

I am trying to get the info on cost because I am also bringing some buds from Asheron's Call for their first visit to World of Warcraft.
It will be nice to be back as I have played a couple MMOs since an well the combat for me just wasn't up to par. This includes my small venture into WAR beta.
Those battlechests I assume are not digital downloads then? Must plan ahead a little bit?

the battle chests are boxes but its cheapest way to get both games (original and BC)

Yep I will hit a local Gamestop and grab it there. I will make sure to completely start my account though with only the key that the "Recruit-a-Friend" gives me.
Second question then, how long does the account have to active with retail key before you can "Recruit-a-Friend"? Or can you send one as soon as you make it retail?
Considering that the battlechest gives you a trial key in there, I'm gonna say that you can recruit someone the second you hit retail. That said, how many friends have you got? I'm still looking for someone to level with via RAF.
And are the D2D versions really D2D or are they the Blizzard Torrent PoS?
I was not aware you could do that. Maybe I don't understand. Are you saying that you can;
1) Request a key through Recruit-A-Friend
2) Use that key to register your account.
3) Apply your retail key to your Recruit-A-Friend Account
4) Get an extra free month?
No, I think he's saying that he could invite a new friend and get the free month right away
1. Player get RAF from friend
2. Players buys game and gets free month
3. Player invites a different friend and gets another free month. (the question is.. can you earn a free month from RAF while you are still in your initial free month that comes with buying the box, and the answer is yes)
