How to prevent GOLD SELLERS

DO NOT OFFER A FREE TRIAL, then ban anyone spamming gold urls.  gold sellers spam with trial accounts. i dont care anyways as i have bought gold before in WOW. the mount prices are too steep.  WOW is still the number one game and probably has the most gold sellers. WOW doesn't have problem with the economy , except for the fact the mounts and riding skills are too much.

i feel any game that is structured for you not to have enough money for your mount is just trying to make you subscribe longer to earn it/farm it

There *is* no economy in WAR at the moment, once it's there gold will have a purpose (crafting items and noob gear mostly it seems)

And you'll still get power level services

If Mythic dosent offer a free trial, then many players will not get the game. Many people use trials to decide if they like a game or not. They could do what Tabula Rasa did and not allow trial accounts to use global chat.

There are only three ways to stop the trend in MMOs that is gold spamming:

    1. A game not based on economy (this game is not a big economy game so they have a + there).

    2. A gaming company makes a sector for it's game that has the sole purpose of annihilating any gold spammers they can find (which is more of a waste than it's worth).

3 (the biggest). The customers simply stop buying gold.

Since 1.) most games have an economy structure, 2.) most companies aren't stupid, 3.)and consumers are stupid enough to buy gold, that eliminates any possible solution. If number 3 was achieved we wouldn't have to deal with it. But since there are people who are using the services, they'll continue to flourish... you can't fix stupid. EDIT: Also, to compliment the OP, removing trials just for the sake of trying to eliminate gold spammers is not going to do anything but cause negative effects. It isn't going to stop much of the problem and is just giong to limit us (the consumers) more then having to deal with gold spammers does.

I think we're going to have to deal with gold spammers for a while.

My only experience was in OB.  But I could not see any reason why people would need to buy gold in WAR.  Maybe that changes past rank 20.  Teamwork seemed to be a much bigger factor than gear.

    4. Make a crap game and drive your customers away.  (Worked for a couple of recent titles!)

    5. Gold sellers are a business.  If it costs them more in time and money (expense) than they an make (revenue) then they will leave of their own accord.

The only game I've seen yet that has completely managed to shut out goldfarmers and sellers is Ryzom.

All weapons and gears are player crafted. Outside of the trial island, there are no NPC weapons/ armor awarded from quests.

Dappers ( gold ) are plentiful with minimal effort from selling mats to the crafters or selling crafted wear.

NPC weapons from vendors are suitable and cheaply priced for hunting until you can craft/buy good armor/weapons from players.

    4. I think that was a cheap shot at AoC if I'm not mistaken

    5. Same thing as 3.

ehh, possible but Age of Conan didn't have free trials either, to prevent gold selling, you need security tools, who sells most athe AH, i'm sure ppl are smart enough to prevent gold selling, send ppl who overuse the AH a warning message I dunno, I'm sure they have a plan, if they don't gold selling is bad after all, it will ruin the game, Lineage II for example

RE: 4. I said a couple.  AoC is just one.

RE: 5. Not at all.  Many companies ban Goldfarmers.  IMHO this is exactly the wrong thing to do.  Why?  Because then they contact the CC companies and get a chargeback... which they are entitled to?

So, don't ban them.  Make them stay and pay.  They cancel their accounts or the CC is fraudulent then the charge is still valid.  This makes it the CC companies problem to chase it up (and they will).

Meanwhile, design your economy (and game) so that it takes about the same amount of time / work to generate the gold as it is worth.  i.e. A $15 monthly sub allows you to generate about enough gold to sell for about $15... no profit.

And / or the developer should be a gold seller too.

If people will buy gold - let them.  From the developer at cheap rates (cheaper than gold sellers can produce it).

better yet, no chat at all. if you just elimate public chat but allow whispers, gold farmers will create a bot that gathers everyone online and send out mass whispers.

but if you do that, the legit players will be screwed. so pretty much there is no way to get around spam from goldsellers..

There were gold sellers in AoC when it was retail purchase only, before they nerfed the game deeper into suck.
