The Gamestop that I pre-ordered from decided after the fact not to carry CEs. And they didn't have any pre-order codes for their customers. Think I'm done with Gamestop in general.
Just a guess, but I'm thinking your Gamestop's employees may have snagged the codes and the CE boxes for resale on EBay. I'd call or write the company and ask why your store wasn't alloted any codes or CE boxes and how this forced you to switch to another retailer for your purchases. If they did indeed get codes and shipments, then someone at the company isn't going to be very happy with their employees.
-- Gamestop originally sent me three codes and all three were duplicates.
-- They resent me three codes and the open beta code checked out fine. Couldn't do the other two, since they were for the Head Start and Bonus Gifts (had to wait until the account center opened).
-- The reissued Bonus Gifts code worked fine.
-- Contacted Gamestop about the Head Start code and was told they are now out of codes, that not everyone who ordered the CE was entitled to Head Start and that I was out of luck (even though I ordered in time to get the codes in the first place -- they gave another customer MY codes).
-- To top that off, I had a deal for delivery on release date. What does Gamestop do? They send it media mail. Input their tracking number and it still doesn't even show as being accepted at a USPS facility yet.
I've only preordered one game from Gamestop and that was GTA IV and they got it to me earlier than i had paid for....thought that was pretty awesome but yea tons of ppl are having problems with the CE codes beign given away to other ppl.
Playing:WoW,Guild Wars Used to play: Vanguard, Anarchy Online (got to lvl 6 and quit ) Waiting for: Warhammer, Aion

I've always had my Gamestop pre-orders arrive on release day (if not a day sooner). But this one looks like it hasn't even left the building.
Hope that I'm compensated for the Head Start -- even if it is just four extra days on my account.
My guess is that EA, with their shady practices, embargoed the game as long as possible. At least Funcom allowed retailers to break street date in order for customers to get AoC in time (even though the game has issues, they scored huge in that release date dept)
I ordered 2 CE's. One from Amazon, and one from Gamestop. I got both of them yesterday. Yeah, gamestop sucks, but they actually came through for me this time.
I dont see why people preorder, I've never preordered a game before and I was able to get a copy the same day of release... I just bought WAR at GameStop 2 hours ago, no pre-order.
Do you get special in-game gifts if you pre-order or special anything? I don't see the point if not.

If you wanted a collector's edition with all the ingame stuff it provides, and the collector's edition headstart you had to preorder.

Yes, you get special items, as well as a head start. It's more important to pre-order stuff like CEs because they only make limited copies, or if the game is not a big name and can drop off the face of the Earth at anytime. If it's a big name title, there's little point to pre-ordering unless you want to just pay for it at that moment or it comes with neat swag.

Does this apply only to WAR? I've bought CE WoW and CE BC same day release no pre-orders...

WAR ran out of CE pre orders fast... WoW probably has a billion/unlimited CE boxes. WAR had few, and was lucky to pre order mine at the start of summer. I only have to pick it up before they give it away... <_< I'm really afraid that they will give me CE away to some SE pre order. And I'll be stuck with the short end of the stick. But I'll raise hell for that one. I could live with the two less days of early start, but my actual CE content. Somone WILL die at gamestop if it is given away. Stupid work keeping me out past 9pm so I couldn't pick it up today <_<...
The other day I called to ask a question and they were like
"Hey, is the Warhammer in yet?"
"Is this Bob?"
"....Yes...?"
"It sounded like you"
"Okay. I don't call that often though, how did you know?"
"You have a distinctive voice"
Weird. This is the second Gamestop I have been a regular at that not only knows me by name, but treats me really cool. I never show ID to pick up a pre-order. The only thing I do is be polite to the guys that work there, show an interest in their opinions on games and frequent one regularly to buy all my PC games.

HEY IT'S ASHLEY FROM GAMESTOP. I'M REALLY LOUD AND EXCITED.
Whoa, I actually have a voice mail, but I already talked to the staffing agency before I turned my phone off, who could OH GOD MY EARS
I got it too. But knowing gamestop, they'll probably give out my collector's box to some SE buyer as well....
All I know is that if they sell my CE I'm going to be mad. Gamestop has already screwed up once for me.

Yeah, Gamestop is dead to me. They sold my CE to someone else "by accident"....

I preordered 3 copies of the CE from EBgames, only problem is they only shipped me 2 CEs. feels somewhat unsatisfying being screwed by a corporation.
At least you got two out of the three.....
Better than what they have done to me:

-- Gamestop refuses to admit they screwed up.
