More Vanguard questions

Well I just got the trial isle and I could be temepted to play this, currently playing WAR at the mo so still undecided as to what to go for.

I did play this a while back but it was before many of the latest updates that have taken place, I remember the game had potential but I just couldn't get past the bugs.

First thing that hit me on loading into the Trial was that I had some quality looking items and my char actually looked quite good for a level 1 noob.

So I have a few questions if anyone could help.

1) Do we lose those items when we leave the isle or are they ours to keep?

2) I only see 1 EU server and it says "Pop low" is this a problem? what I'm getting at is quests etc ? How soloable is the game? Most MMO's usually have the best loot/upgrades from group quests but if there is no-one about then chances are it's not going to happen.

3) Is there anyway to change the actual game font? I've checked the options but I think it's hideous.

4) Can you mod the game with custom interfaces? If so is there a modding website?

5) Is there a Guild list anywhere, it's such a big world I would hate to be on my own.

6) I have looked for this but I couldn't find it anywhere, how much is it a month to play?

Thanks so much

    1) you keep them

    2) game is soloable np up to higher levels, population is not big but generally is not difficult to find groups for the more popular dungeons/questlines. it also helps to get in a good guild

    3) no idea, prob yes with custom UI but not sure

    4) yes, there are various custom UI, some of them also help improving performance if you tweak them, you can even change the map if you wish.

    http://www.vginterface.com

    5) ingame there is an option to look at the guilds on your server, you can also check the official boards in the forum dedicated on the server you play

    6) should be around 14 and something but it depends also by the subscription you do

    Thanks mate very helpful indeed.

Had a quick look on that site, all looks good, some great UI's there but I still can't see any mod that changes the game font.

I know it's such a small thing but I really do hate it.

I honestly don;t think it can actually be done sadly.

I have not tried this myself, but I think you can change the font by modifying

    C:Program FilesSonyVanguardinVGFonts.ini

This file will get overwritten by the patcher each time.   So if you make changes you will need to restore.

    Good Luck

Thanks, I tried it, but it didnt work apparently you cant change the font of the name above your head, :(

Well-may not be able to change it but in regards to your name over your head, you can simply turn it off.  Can also turn off the names of others as well.  Just go to settings ingame, not sure the direction to take from there but Im sure its in there somewhere-just saw it few nights ago.  Anyhoo-best of luck.

You can turn it off though....unless you can't remember your toons name and need to keep it on...

(actually, you can turn off all that font... )

I only got to play for about 10 minutes before work today, but the damn fonts and everything looking like plastic really bugged me. This is 2008 and they don't have anti-aliased fonts?

With regard to custom UI's, I found that Drox was the best in terms of convenience, layout etc (particularly if you are a healer), and Core was best in terms of performance.

I personally used Drox for about a year because it was so helpful being a raid healer. Unfortunately Drox (the guy who made the UI) left VG earlier in the year so Im not sure what the situation is with updates/patches etc.

Glad it's not just me, I've trawled the web for this and it appears it really can't be done.

Its such a shame as you say it is "plastic" I know its only a small thing but sometimes they still count

I finally got to play a bit more right after I posted that, and once I got away from the buildings and tree stumps the plastic models weren't so prevalent and I really started to enjoy the feel of Telon. It really is the first MMO I have played in years that actually feels like an MMO. Then I got to the second city... more plastic. Then I ran into a quest npc that wasn't textured, an obvious bug, but altogether it killed my immersion dead. I logged out shaking my head. It's a damn shame.

You can change the fonts its just a pain, you need to copy the modifed vgfonts.ini over the existing one after the patcher has done any updating just before you press play. When I played I was using the WoW font, kinda like that.

To make it less tedious create a .bat script on you desktop, so you just need to click that before you press play.

Shouldn't be hard for the devs to allow font changing in game or at least stop the patcher updating the vgfonts.ini file at every startup ......

I played nearly a year ago, worked then, maybe not now, love to be playing now but just don't have the time unforunately nice to see the games coming along nicely.

    Laters!
