I have been reading many comparisons between War and WoW. For one thing they mean little to me as I haven't had much exposure to WoW. I would not be comparing War to Vanguard or Eve as the games are trying to accomplish different things. My experience in War so far has been limited to Tier 1 and 2.
My question is to players who have gotten further into the game as to how it compares to DAoC since they are both RvR games. I enjoyed DAoC very much for a long time and was curious as to your viewpoints as to the longevity of the appeal of War. Thanks very much for any replies.

I'd be interested to know this too (bump)

Looking forward (cautiously) to: Age of Conan, Dark Solstice, Armada Online.
Will soon try: Guild Wars
Overall: Amazed and bewhildered at the current sad state of the artform of gaming.
I played DAOC for years, from the very start (I remember the unitemized zones in good old underdog land - Hibernia!). I haven't really got into a MMORPG since DAOC (I did play wow for maybe 8 months).
Warhammer is great, and it is a cross between DAOC and WOW, only new! RvR is great, public quests are very cool (Raid with no prep time, guild, etc) and I like the classes.
Hope this helps!
Similar to the previous poster, I played Camelot from launch all the way until EA anounced that they had purchased Mythic and their influence on the development of WAR (the server/guild I ran with was very upset with this, and it seemed to explain a lot of things we were unhappy about with game changes [ole' RP server vets, we were]).
In any case, to respond, I haven't really found many of the same elements that made RvR in Camelot so great. Granted, I haven't had a tremendous amount of time to play to a high enough level that I might actually see some of these similarities, but so far here's my break-down:
Camelot had/has:
Battlegrounds (most significantly beginning at level 20)
Frontier
RvR dungeons
Seige Equipment
Towers and Keeps as free game for realm control
Darkness Falls
Bonuses for taking over and maintaining realm keeps and towers
War has:
A battlefield arena titled "WAR Scenarios", very similar to wow battlegrounds and King of the Hill (with multiple hills) gameplay.
And that's as far as I have ventured so far. Again I'll mention that I haven't had the greatest chance to play through a character (highest level toon is level 7 right now) so this comparison is probably a little skewed. I hope, though, that this will change. So far it seems as though the game has little to no real PvE content or story line (even though they have RP servers) and the story line/quests available are sort of herding you to different areas in an attempt to convince you to RvR. It's a shame that it seems (as of now) that there are minimal PvE interactions, especially with the outstanding graphics and expansive world.
That's mah two cents, hope it helps.
Seveth, in the beginning of tier 2, I saw nearly all the things that were from DAOc. the tier 2 RvR zone has a keep that is setup in nearly the same way as the DAOC keep. A big front door that requires a ram to break down. Platforms on the blaconany to setup seige weapons. Boiling oil. A keep general to take etc.
This game is literlaly DAOC 2. I don;t konw if you can fortify the keep, but after my team took it, the door that was destroyed stayed that way, which means someone has to repair it, just like in DAOC.
The capital city raids are pretty much the Darknessfalls of this game.
I also wonder waht tier 4 has to offer. Im sure more keeps will be present.
WAR has all of the things DAoC has except DF.
I miss DF raids. Or logging in it, and relogging when a different realm had control. Totally awesome hacking my way through hordes of you tree huggers
But yes, WAR has every RvR feature DAoC had. Keep Seiges are
WAR Has -
BG's similiar WoW's and completelyd ifferent (read up on the high level ones WoW has nothing like the ones past Tier 1) WAR's BG's are...completely unique or close to it for MMOS atleast. Each Realm has its own scenarios..though in Tier 1 only one of the Scenarios' objectivies are different...Khaine's Embrace...is unique to Tier 1 the other two are just point caputring in its purest form.
Public Quests - no other game has them .. trust me WoW dailies are nothing like these
Public Dungeons - Massive public PvE dungeons that only require a group for the end boss instance. Most are 3 wings that you can do in any order you wish to try. They are huge and you will die alot if you try to do these alone.
Keeps, Siege Weapons, Fortresses (these blow away keeps and both are fought over by the Realms and can be maintained by Guilds), and Capital City Seiging. Bonus's for doing any and all of these activites. Keeps once you reach Tier 2 are the only way to Renown Train and buy Renown Gear...they matter...alot.
City Sieges - Open more dungeons, more pq's more pvp and completely shut out the other realm from their city..and de level's their city (yes city's have levels and they do matter!!).
Lairs - hidden boss mobs
City Dungeons
Guild Levels - unlike any previous guild system guild levels are rather important if you want access to some things in the cities.
Guild Standard Banners - yes the type you plant in the ground! Yes they give you bonus's the type of bonus varries depending on the tactics your guild has unlocked and depending on the level you can have up to 3 or 4 of them per guild and anyone in your realm gets these bonus's if they're close enough and they're used to take keeps in your guild's name AND they can be taken by enemy realm guilds.
PvE levels accomplished by pvp or pve
Renown Levels accomplished only by PvP / RvR
im really tired of listing this stuff...do some research..there's huge lists & info available on whats in the game...WoW & WAR's basica pve are about the only things they really share...their entire core concept is on the other hand inherantly different...not to mention WoW's pvp doesn't matter at all for its races. Nothing relies on it.
Wow, thanks for all of the encouraging posts back! I'm really excited to play through most of the game now. Sounds like WAR is what I thought it was going to be.
Awesome!

Btw, where'd you get the nifty WAR signature?
