Yah UO still does that, you can pay extra and get a grandmaster character or something.
Hell, if i was part of an MMO crew, i would just start making maxed out characters and ebaying them. Or the items.
Just don't like it as much since people don't play as a game to have fun with, but as a business. and yah already said what they do to make a profit.
A good portion of the stuff selling though is a scam. Or easily scammed after (like selling an account, then using the secret word to get it back by changing the password.)
And its funny how its really not profitable on a per hour basis (for accounts, items really only good way to profit if done right), unless you cheat and/or use bots.
I don't depise it as much if just selling your account since you are done with the game or a item you got on your own you wouldn't mind trying to make the cash to pay for the game.
04.10.06 I think there is a holding service that holds your $ untill you confirm receipt of item for online transactions... vs the credit card usage that allows charge back for fraud. ? why didn't you meet the guy ingame to confirm he was for real, and/or set up a trusted third party to hold the gil till your payment was received?
Because a lot of us are very honest and trustworthy (of others). If the majority weren't our society would be chaos. (Agree with that and forgot some interview i read where some guy mentioned that.)
I would suggest doing it over ebay next time, bit more safer but still can get scammed.
