who should I blame?

Hello folks, I live in Australia.

I did not pre-orederd War. This morning I just stopped by a shop and grabbed a bulky packet. Arriving home, I was excited enough coz  I thought I could play the game right after the installation bit BUT it turned out a desaster. After 3 times ( each took like 1/2 hour ) to install a complete game , the same old error occurred ( the game could not be launched - a black screen flashed on then off instantly ).

Then I rang the customer support department, the adviser told me to uninstall the old bit , then start install the new bit without choosing EA Management ( I donno whot this for, a funny bit associated with the core program ). I thought  that would help, but NAH. After  2 more attempts to re-install, things aint improve. I gave it up. I rang the techie adviser again. He told me to forward him an email. Now I am waiting for response.

Afterall, It is frustrating me out of my rational wits.

I am shaking my head , It sucks. How could they release those copies without even testing it !

well considering that AU has the same client as US...and noone has this complaint atm other than you....i think its either a faulty copy or maybe try updating your video drivers?

this is what you do you have 3thingstodo

    1. update all VIDEO and AUDIO sound cards, and even the MONITOR driver.

if this doesnt work then there are 2 more solutions

    2. reinstall your operating system (vista works better for WAR ive heard because its optimized for vista)

if this doesnt work there is 1 solution

    3. Wait for the technical supports reply

if they dont give you a seficient answer then

1.your computer is out of date and should get a new one

    2. you have specs that are so off from the norm it wont run WAR

  • nhuhdonhuhdo Member Posts: 27

     i believe my specs are

                            CPU 3.0 single core

                            Ram 2 gb

Graphics 128 mb ATI Radeo 9550

Apparently, my case was not the only one. When i mentioned the phrase '' the game did not launch properly '' , the techie immediately said the words '' the black screen fault ''. Then he prompted me to follow some steps like '' search the folder, find the file named warpatch'' '' try to run'' ... then a black screen flashed on then off like I mentioned.

well its the first i heard of it...the only video error i get is when i tab out i sometimes lose my video. and the very first thing i would do is update your vid driver

Haven't run into this in WAR but saw this a lot for WoW, most of the time the game wasn't able to initialize DirectX properly. I would install/reinstall the latest video drivers... and as mentioned above any other drivers that can be updated (including monitor driver). If the monitor driver is wrong the game might try to run in a mode not supported by the monitor (it's just a list of supported graphics modes really).

They didn't ask for a dxdiag dump to check your system specs?

I am having the exact same problem with the disk install version of the game.  I did pre-order, and can play the game fine on the 'beta' files I downloaded a week back, but I cant play from the disk install.

What I am hoping/gessing the problem is, is that for those that did NOT pre-order, the game doesn't go LIVE till 7am on the 18th US time. Hence here in Australia, while the game is in the shops the game hasn't gone live and therefore the disks do not work yet.

If you notice the file you click on to start the game is 'Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoningwarpatch.exe' .  Yet my beta file start-up is "WarhammerOnline_Beta_encrwarpatch.exe"

I could be totally wrong btw, and maybe the disks sent to Australia are faulty.

Sorry above a bit long-winded but I hope you get my drift.

blame Mark Jacobs, he's a terrible guy

    Ok found the problem.

I was kinda right.. yeah the warpatch.exe on some of the DVD's is faulty.

You can download a working 'warpatch.exe' from fileplanet

    http://files.filefront.com/warpatchexe/;11292885;/fileinfo.html

Just replace the current one with this one, and it should work.

    Yourself.   You asked.

Firstly, I'd like to say '' thank you '' to Wiglac. You are brilliant.

I am unsure that eventually the game will work but the good sign is the patch downloading is in progress after following your tips. I reckon you might get a seat in Customer support team soon.

(I have written to support, but they didnt give an answer)

I have same problem. I was playing normally (only little lags) about 3 h., and i have turned off pc.

Now, when i want to play, i log in, program is checking patches, its ok, and i click "play", than for one second (or less) i see black screen, and game is turning off. No error, no nothing. I see my deskop.

When i re-install game, than its all ok. But when i turn off game after plaing - this problem is returning.

This warpatch.exe that u have given isnt working. I have Europe version of game. I was trying "Full File Check", but its not working too.

Any ideas? My graphic card is Radeon x1600 pro.

Sry for bad english:) And thanks.

Another problem that happens from time to time when you install the game the installer continues to run in the background.  If you are unable to patch after a fresh install you can either go into task manager and end the WAR process or simply restart your computer.

    It's a Jeep thing. . .

  • Maybe you shouldn't blame anyone and accept the fact that with all the varying pc hardware out there that some people will inevitably encounter problems on occasion.  It's never very fun, but not worth "blaming" someone for.
Dear Customer,

Unfortunately we couldn’t contact you in game. Thank you very much for reporting this bug in Warhammer Online.

Please launch the game always with the file “warpatch.exe”.

Should the problem still occur, please delete the „cache” folder in your

Warhammer Online installation directory and the file “userSettings.xml” in the subfolder “user”.

Launch the file „warpatch.exe” again and

check the option “Perform Full File Check”.

Should this not solve the problem, please contact us again and add to your appeal that you

already did the above mentioned steps.
This is the answere. Its working now. But i think that i should remove "userSettings.xml", and its enought;).

Streange... But I have solution - this is most important.
