Ok first off i don't give a crap about pvp (i play eve for that).

With that out of the way how is the game from a pve perspective?

hows the economy?

Will i get bored in the game if i don't pvp?

Is the community friendly?

Did the graphics update improve the game play experience much?

PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

Pve is ok, Its a sandbox type game. But when compared to newer games pve wise, it cant hold up.

I just came back and I got bored.

The community is awesome, friendly people who are very helpful IMO.

KR imo is  awful and  I think it did more to hurt the game then help. So no imo It did not help gameplay.

That said UO is unique and has alot to  offer other games dont! and I think the community is the best.

    Just my 2 cents

PvE compared to newer games is pretty boring. (After playing UO for 8+ years I was really surprised how good PvE can be in games like WOW)

EA never really managed to get a good monster AI and so just went the 'give those beast more Hitpoints to make them harder' attitude.

In my opinion the economy is pretty shot.

The game is 10+ years old and most players are veterans. Since AOS you can insure your items and never lose it, so most veterans are saturated with items. That really good items then go in the millions.

Community is mostly friendly if you stay out of Felucca (PvP land)

If you like house decorating and like to find your own challenges you should be busy for some time.

I still would advise first to play the trial and also maybe to consider a freeshard as they have less bugs than the original.

The new graphic client is considered for the majority (opinions differ) as too buggy to be used. Original plan was to phase out the old client and only use the new one. As rumours say only 20% use the new client it seems EA gave up on that plan ... again.

UO still is the best game for roleplaying in my opinion though.

I play UO and enjoy it

I use KR and think it's a brilliant addition

I will continue to play it but to be honest the PVM experience is really just a grind-fest

For example ..lets look at some of Spawns and Champion Spawns

All you do is go to an area and kill things until the boss monster appears ,the enemies get progressively harder ..but it's just about killing

Now the dungeons are fun ,going to Destard and killing dragons  for example  but I think Doom is the ultimate exercise in futility .All it's about is running from room to room with pets seeing how much damage you can do to enemies ...then you fight the Dark Father ...sometimes there are so many people around you can't even see what you suppose to be killing..Once Dark Father is dead everyone starts running around again ..lol.Granted you do gain arties ...but how many times can you kill the same thing over and over again

I think the PVP is exciting and the RP is apparently good

I agree with the posts made by others ...in summary UO is a good game ..not great :)

Just a little off topic here, but not big enough to make a thread I think.  Are there any free shards with a larger population than the P2P servers...?

Is a bit hard to say but I have seen freeshards with about 1000 people playing at the moment.

I am pretty sure that some EA shards have less people playing like Origin (Testshard), Oceania (not so many Australians playing), Siege, Mugen (special shards with pvp rules).

1000 players at the same time is not so much when I think on average a shard has about 6000-8000 players.

(My estimation comes from houses - as each account should have a house and only 6000 (best guess) to 8000 (very optimistic and ea vafored guess) houses on a shard)

But UO is a game which can be played easily with a playerbase of five hundred to a thousand players, because with how many can you interact anyway.

Used to play UO a lot and was right into it but I quit around the same time as the KR fiasco. What a fuckin waste of development.

Pretty much made it to the end game, 2 accounts with characters whose skills were all scrolled out and maxed. Was soloing lady mel in Fel, dual boxing of course. So many aspects of the game were so broken, and its a fair bit of a grind to get pvp worthy items. Burnt sooo many brsk's trying to get the good armor.

Some of the things I loved about it :

PvP : Pretty cool system. Safe area in Trammel. Non-consensual pvp in Fel. But it mostly devolved to moongate and guardzone pvp.

World : The world was pretty big and there was allways something to do.

    Hated :

The stupid grinding : Heartwood quests for fletching kits. BODS for brsks and hammers. I know people who have been working years and never got one. Mostly the domain of the scripter.

Armor : Everybody just uses leather armor. No point in using Plate , Chain , Studded etc. Pretty stupid.
