War's biggest flaw is it has no community

The biggest problem I see with War is that there is no chat channel to communicate with other players.  As I play the game it could be a solo game as far as chat goes.  Every other game I've played there is always a level of chatter and you know that there are other people and you can interact.  In war there is no chat.  nothing.

Hence there is no community.  You group or not doing PQs but nobody talks.  You do some RvR but again silence.  This is gonna be a big failure and will hurt the game.  Especially for new players that aren't coming into the game with an established guild community or not battle hardened MMORPGers.

I have not played this but even I am 90% sure there is a chat channel.

There we go, a chat box on the left.

Are you talking about no one speaks in these channels? I'm sure things will pick up; especially considering how populour this game is.

This doesnt seem to be happening to me.  The only time I dont see people chatting is when I have it on party only and with my guild (we use vent)

    /1 for your zone
/order or /destruction work as well

    People not using public channels has some reasons though;
    1. there is less reason to be grouped because that has been semi automated or isn't necessary at all
    2. so far allot of the players are experienced mmo players who have been waiting on release and are now leveling and questing there asses off
    3. they find that the game answers allot of questions for them so they don't need to ask in public chat

People will increasingly use public channels when they have reached max level / rank and the leveling craze is behind them, also more and more less hardcore players will join in the near future.
Maybe the access to channels should be more clear though.

Usually I'm too busy killing people to bother with Chuck Norris jokes in general chat...

The interaction I have with my RL friends and guildmates is just fine, and it's usually something akin to "What Career Mastery path did you go?" or, "KILL THAT DAMN ZEALOT".

The community is there, but I didn't buy WAR to use it as a fancy IRC client. I bought it to kill people and have fun doing it. Mission Accomplished.

Maybe you should join a guild?  I normally don't chat in /1 because i'm either talking in our Guild or our Alliance chat.

While yes, There is a general chat channel, You are looking for community in the wrong places.

War Thrives because you are not only forced to group, but WANT to group so often that you meet virtually every player in the area. I've met dozens and dozens of people just by doing public quests, and made friends with the vast majority of them. It's actually nice to consistantly work with like minded people in game.

It actually feels a lot like Final Fantasy did and to me that is a very good thing.

I'm glad no one uses general. 9/10 the people using general at the l33t speak trash talkers making Chuck Norris jokes.

I think former WoW players are used to constant chat in a general channel, while playing the game solo.

WAR isn't going to be like that, and at the early levels, instead of chatting, you're mostly figuring out where to go, which buttons to mash, how hte scenarios work, etc.
Even so, I've found people nice, and will to chat if you initiate it.
Just hit return, and type away to chat with people close to you, or /sp to chat with your group.

It always takes months before any game community forms. Many who buys the game will quit or e-bay their accounts and new players will come.

The WAR community should really have formed by christmas, before that it will be a mess like in all game.

     can't talk... fighting...

I see this as a good thing sorta... like, people are out playing instead of "Barren Chatting."

This is the biggest draw, in my opinion. Grouping and community are pains in the arse.

Communication outside of guilds are very rare in any mmo these days.. Long gone are the days in the commonlands tunnels learning a new language so you can /say and speak to people of another race.. /say is almost as useful as a penny in todays economy..

It has mainly come down to join a guild and get on ventrillo for communication.. The immature players over the years have proven to be too much for mmo communities to withstand and their numbers grow daily. Now-a-days the ignore list is more important than the buddy list and is usually busting at the seams within a month or two for some people. Gold sellers spamming general chat with garbage advertisements, silly inappropriate sex jokes, arguing and name calling.....

An unmoderated chat room is what it has become, and that basically makes it as wild as the west... It becomes a lawless warzone where WoW vets get to argue with the WAR players.. Where people get to shout their favorite "cock and balls" jokes.. Where gold sellers can "pwn" the chat into submission by super spam..

If you are looking for a "chat" community, you will be hard pressed to find it in any game these days.. The mmo average age group has decreased a whole lot over the years and with it, some of the maturity has gone with it.

if by community you mean that inane retarded chatter i always always always find in WoW no matter what server I go to .. then yea its not here .. yet .. and im glad it means i get to keep my world channels unfiltered ..

nothing kills any sense of MMO immersion for me faster than some idiot talking about someone else's mom or how he wtfpwned someone else .. t

hey really should just stay on WoW that would make this game not just great but the best thing since sliced bread

Want lots of chat?  Join a large guild. Problem solved.

  • cukimungacukimunga Member UncommonPosts: 2,258

Heh yeah it does seem quiet. I didn't know there were those other channels.  Not that all that talking is good. Most of the time I turn off OOC chat cuz people just talk to much about stupid stuff.  But sometimes its fun to chat with them.  IM more of a guild chatter.

The age of keyboard chatting is getting old... Even though it can be entertaing at times, its still alot of rubbish (now this is my personal opinion, someones opinion may differ from mine).

    You .. Hi there!

    Them .. Hello

    You .. Whats you doing?

Them .. Trying to figure this game out, you on a certain quest, did you need any help?

You .. No I am good, unless you need some help?

Them .. I am good to .. Well you take care..

    You .. You too.

Or Is this the type of chat your looking for or

    You .. Hello Everyone!

Them .. Man this <XYZ game blows>! I am going back to <Feel in your MMO here>

You .. Well I am new to the game.

Them .. Do yourself a favor and quit playing now.

Welcome to the AGE of GUILDS and VENTRILLO / TEAMSPEAK.

If your looking to make friends in general chat, good luck in any game now. Everyone likes to SOLO and has no time to talk in CHAT if they belong to a GUILD. This is where your friends are at now.

The days of typing on the keyboard is going backwards. Even though I miss the days of Everquest, when they used to be like this and Star Wars Galaxies. There is no need to now, if your part of a Guild or if you got friends, the Vent system is your friend.

I understand, ppl dont want to talk on Vent or there missing a mic, or whatever the cause may be, but unfortunately like 8 trax tapes, this chat method is becoming the way of the dinosaur.

Granted, you got folks that Love to Role Play and keyboard chatting is the best way to Role Play, then I would say, Roll a character on the ROLE PLAYER SERVER and see if its truly a keyboard chatting community.

You want community chat? Unfortunately WAR doesnt have a official FORUM, just like its sister game Dark Age of Camelot.

Warhammer Alliance seems to be your best bet for Community Forum Chat.. Give it a shot..

The game is less then 2 days from release and you want a full blown community?  Many people joined guilds before they even had the game in hand.

Considering I play WoW, I find find a lack of community refreshing :P.

  • MakurosuMakurosu Member Posts: 30

I noticed more talking last night than during beta or the two days of early access I played.  Frankly, after being subject to trade and general chat in WoW for years, I find the peace soothing.  Most players I've come across are fairly mature, and don't become appendages upon grouping with them.  We group so everyone can share a mob, for instance, and then drop and go our separate ways.

I'd probably have filled my friends list already if I added every person I had a pleasant encounter with so far.

Yeah, because the community at level 1-20 in WoW was SO GOOD.

[1. Barrens - Billybobjoe] - chuck norriz is lyk super cool!

So many weird people making forum posts on MMORPG.com right now.

  • achesomaachesoma Member RarePosts: 1,768

No "chucknorris" chat is a good thing imo.  That is the sign of a very good community.

Why yes and you get nothing back...

I'm actually surprised at the number of clueless people that responded to this post who seem to have no idea how the game works....

/1 is not a zone wide chat....  /1 is a region chat, which is virtually useless.  If it was zone wide it might be good.  regions are the small areas you run through that change the title on you map.  So each zone has maybe 10+ regions.  So you can see /1 probably only hits a dozen or so people in the best of cases...

When you join a warband or group there is very rarely ever one word said.  But then in a PQ you don't need much.  However doing RvR it would be useful to coordinate a bit or have some communication.  Like in a senario there is rarely any communication.

As to being in a guild, as I said to start with people can bring their on community in the form of a guild for sure.  I'm in a guild and I use vent all the time.  But that just means that I have a community with my guild not that the game has a community....  Different things.  Learn to read.

For a new person coming into the game there are significant obsticles to them communicating with people, asking for help, or doing any form of chat.

As to the /order /chaos thing I tried that but it didn't work for me.  Might require some setup and I've NEVER seen anything on my chat so even if it exists nobody knows about it or uses it.  I did make a channel called order once but that isn't the same.... I was in this awesome channel with 1 person, me :P

Seriously I've played maybe 40-50 hours of war and I could probably put all the chat I've seen in that entire time on one page of paper.  If you try to say something in /1 99.99 percent of the time it will not have a reply...

While I'm not a fan of chucknorris chat, it isn't the sign of a good community it is the sign of no community.
