WAR is fun, WoW is not, and why did Vanguard suck?

gillvane1gillvane1 Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,503

Just started playing WAR, and it's fun. Why wasn't Vanguard fun? I don't know exactly, but it just lacked something, something that WAR has. WAR is fun right out of the box. Vanguard, I kept wandering around hoping it was going to get fun, but it never did. Vanguard had a big world, but it wasn't really fun to wander around in it.

Now, WAR vs WoW is easy. WoW is a solo game. WAR is not. The grouping dynamic, the most important feature in an MMO for me, is better in WAR than in WoW.

Not only that, but you want to group in WAR, so you can do RvR content. Groups work together better than solo players, and a bunch of solo players running around will get wrecked by a good group in the scenarios, or the open world RvR.

That's waht makes all the difference to me.

You like solo games? Go play WoW. You like good groups? WAR is a fun game.

Yes, I know WoW changes to  a group game in the end, when you do raiding, but raiding has never been my thing, so that doesn't cut it.

Not only that, but the way WAR works, you can fight in Scenarios the first time you play, and you don't have to wait for the "end game" which is really cool.

    Agreed.

And remember folks, it's totally optional to read these threads. So don't get all upset if you see alot of WAR topics ;)

It's strange... I never could solo a dungeon worth doing it at my level in WOW. You must be very good playing WOW, but usually people need to group to do a dungeon. Also for the grup quests.

Or maybe you never do dungeons or group quests? Then you are not playing WOW really. And you shouldn't talk about a game of which you haven't experienced the most important part.

Given the level of communication one would encounter that is not an NPC is rather low in WAR one could make the argument that it is a lot like a solo game.

You've never solo'd a dungeon in WoW?! I was able to solo the whole SM at level 60 as a Warrior. Ah...the good'o'days of WoW.

If you have ever played City of Heroes grouping isn't forced.

But the level of communication from other players in that game is rather high and why it is highly regarded for its community in the MMORPG world.

So it is possible to have an MMORPG where communication and community is an important part of play without the hardcore elements.

I actually like the grouping game of EQ2. CoH was fun, but not the optimal grouping game, IMO.

I'm not saying WAR grouping is the best, but so far it's WAY better than in WoW. The biggest difference is the PvP. You're going to get pwned in RvR if you solo.

Even with all the players thhat left CoH, You'll still find a lot who enjoyed their time playing it

Interesting, I'll keep watching WAR for the next few months and see if the hype dies down or not. If people praise it more, i'll have to check it out.

My comment about grouping was related to the fact that MMORPG's that do not allow reasonable advancement though single play tend to never bloom rather large due to a large amount of people not able to log on all the time for grouping.  Thus EQ2 stucked hard untill they introduced more single player action and that was a bit to late.  I would expect that is WAR is hardcore grouping game when we will see single player additions later and they will not be as good because there were not planned from the start.

Yeah its very strange...especially when in WoW in order to do heroic dungeons and raids nowadays you are required to have better gear then what the acctual instance drops. Funny, maybe you shouldnt talk about a game which you obviously havent experianced at 70. And if you have, let me know your server. My server requires Black Temple gear just to raid karazan for fast badge runs now.

U fail on so many levels. If you are 40 years old and you just beat up a 10 year old kid, does that mean u r strong and powerful? Or just dumb and mean? Soloing SM as a level 60 is no accomplishment. Try soloing at level 30-40. That is the level range it was designed for.

We wanna see links to good sites where you can get free money and sex.

Seriously, all the crap about WAR is getting kinda old.. that game out-sucked AoC. General discussion is fine for threads that somehow include WAR in a broader topic but spare us from these threads.

I seem to recall lots of fan boy posts about AOC within the first month of release.   Lets see how WAR holds up in 30+ days.

Wait for that nerf train to gain some steam.  Then watch the whiners come in mass.   Oh trust me that train is coming, and it won't stop.

There are a few things I don't like about WAR.  One is that there aren't always enough people to do public quests.  Many of the public quests in the elven lands aren't being done at all.  I

n the main elven city there are three public quests, but only one of them ever gets done.  I have never seen the other two completed.  In fact they are generally empty.

There is no weapon selection.  Each class can use a perticular weapon and weapon style.   For instance the tanks either use sword and board or two hand weapon, but are restricted to the perticular weapon they start with at character creation.  They can only use equipment that class and race.  I prefer having the choice of deul weild and any weapon type if I'm going to play a tank class.

Tanks have limited use in RvR.  In PvE tanks are pretty useful for public quests, but in RvR generally people just ignore you since you don't do a tun of damage and just kill off the more dangerous classes.

The game has it's ups and downs, but if WoW and WAR just came out I would choose WoW as it has better PvE content even without the public quests.  If you like to PvP and don't care much about have a lot of choice in your character's development then this game might be good for you.

Sure War is fun, it is new and you just started playing it.  Unfortunately, all you have to do in end game is rvr and believe me, that gets old fast.  You can only retake a town or fort only so many times before it becomes boring too.

Oh its starting already, the tanks whining about being gimped in PVP.   How long before Mythic starts caving and overpowering tanks?   Then casters begin to whine about overpowered tanks and how long before Mythic caves and makes casters overpowered?   Oh and then tanks complain about casters....

Lets not forget about the endless nerfs to any form of crowd control or stun spells.   Oh yeah and healers, shouldn't be healing in pvp.   And then why are elves more powerful than orcs?   Oh and why do orcs have more hps than humans?

OH IF I die in PVP is has to be because whatever killed me is vastly overpowered.  If Mythic doesn't nerf them I'll cancel and go play WoW.

Oh yeah the nerf train is going to run strong in this one.   Go for it Mythic, nerf em to hell!

I never said any class was overpowered.  All I said was tanks have no use in PvP for the most part.
