Ok, I have to admit....I was wrong. I was hurt when I was an advocate of Age of Conan and everyone was bashing the title like crazy. I was waiting and was excited by Conan upon its release. Then the disappointment set in. AoC official forums went down the toilet. WAR was gaining steam then naturally the critics aimed their sights on WAR.....even me. WAR is Wowhammer online; a WoW clone, etc. etc. Then I bought it to be fair and was curious what WAR was really like....
NOT EVEN REMOTELY SIMILAR TO WOW
The intro cinema movie blew me away. I was watching it with my mouth open. I logged in and created my elf Arch Mage. The detail of the armor, weapons, robes. I said to myself these toons do not resemble WoW. They have their own spirit. The graphics are NOT cartoony. They still run on the DAOC engine. The High elves and Dark elves have their own features....nothing like the elves in WoW. The environments are nice and easy to navigate. The UI has its own distinction along with the character invenory/lay outs. I was shocked and had a completely new outlook on WAR.
Realm VS Realm, Questing and the new public questing areas.
The quests are fun. I find myself actually reading the quests not just clicking the "next" button. I got immersed in the quests and the lore. The public questing area concept was superb. You can PvP from lvl 1 and gain XP or you can run quests. The XP gain is plentiful with much content. Realm VS Realm is bascially pvp combat. The RvR scenarios are awesome and goal oriented. Its a nice break from the quest grind.
The only downside of the game.
The game installed and ran smoothly. No crashes, no major bugs that disrupted gameplay. The only downside I found in the game was the character creation fell a little short on customization. I would like to see more features there. The Arch Mage heals do not really have a nice audible tone to it....You kind of have to watch what your healing to make sure you healed your target. I wish they would add more distinct sounds. Other than the game is really really good and worth checking out.

Nice write up, but some people here would rather me scold you for enjoying the game, and to point out that you can't possibly be having that much fun. Stop focusing on the good things, and let's just focus on anything that might be wrong. How about... the general chat. So hard to learn to type /1 or /order or /destruction.
Well the thing I would to point out the most is what you are saying might be the problem these days. I think too many players automatically jump to the bad and throw out there what is wrong with new mmos just released, rather than concentrating on the good and what they enjoy. The bottom line is that there are so many players with so many personalities with so many likes and dislikes about content, etc. you will never have a 100 % pleased audience.
I can understand the chat issue but really these are the days of communicating with voice chat rather than typed chat. WAR should release a in game voice chat system. But really, all you have to do is type /say or /party and your locked in that channel until you change it.
Yeah definitely. I have the perfect MMO created in my mind. I have thought about it for like 5 or 6 years. It is nothing like WAR. Not even one aspect of it. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy WAR. I want a good sandbox as bad as anyone, but I still have fun with WAR. I had a lot of fun for the first 60 or so levels of AoC too. I also had a lot of fun in Vanguard. All of these games brought out the trolls. Now the Sandbox guys are teaming up with WoW fanboys to flame WAR because they forgot how to enjoy MMO's. These so called sandboxers are shallow as hell.
This used to be a place to celebrate launches and find fun in new experiences, but now it is full of pety crap, immature trolls, and people who have forgotten what gaming is all about and how to have fun.
Agreed. Very FUN game. Unlike EVE Online and some other MMO's, this game is just fun, similar to an FPS. Hop on, have fun, do group activities or solo, achieve.
So far I like the game. The grind is a bit much for 40lvs. But it's all about end game to me. So when I hit 40, we will see.....
Forums are for bitching. Stop having fun damnit.
