Bulldog Here!
Now im not usually the one to make hasty decisions....but I somehow got sucked into buying a bunch of stuff I dont need from BestBuy...dammit.
- A guitar training program (havnt played the damn thing in a month)
- A mic for my guitar (Like I said...its got dust on it)
- Warcraft 3 expansion set (I stopped playing WarCraft about a year ago)
But here is where I need you dog'es help:
I bought a Sound Blaster 24bit surround sound card in preparation for EQ2's kick butt sound. I got 2 extra speakers...bringing the total to 4. But now...ive got wire tangling up my chair ...so if I move the speakers come crashing down.
How do you guys have your speakers set up...and what kind of configuration? Are there wireless options? Should of asked you guys before I impulsed bought!

If you haven't opened the software, take it back. You may even be able to talk the guy at the returns desk into taking it back anyway - if it won't run on your PC that is *wink* As for the mic, they will take that back for sure.
With a 24 bit card, it's doubtful that you will hear a difference with "computer" speakers. This is besides the fact that you need 24 bit content to even hear it. ALL game audio content is 16 bit.
In my setup, I have a Yamaha DD/DTS receiver hooked into a pair of $800 studio monitors, as well as a 5.1 JBL "home theater" type package, including center, front L/R, rear L/R speakers and a 12" sub. My setup is a bit unusual though - I also do audio production on this gear, and it doubles as my living room "home theater". My PC's main display is a 26" widescreen Sharp Aquos HDTV monitor @ 1366x768 - and everything is hooked into it. PC, Xbox, PS2, GC, G5, HDTV Cable, etc. All connections, both audio and video, are digital, so there's no loss, no noise, no nothing. In a nutshell, my setup looks and sounds perfect, in every way.
With "real" speakers, you can afford to move things around a bit. I ran monster speaker wire along the perimeter of the room - but with little computer speakers, you usually have 6 or 10 feet of wire max. I would extend the connection between the computer and the "amp" (whichever speaker takes the audio in) with a radio shack or similar 1/8" extension cable. That should get things set up and out of the way.

personally I put my computer desk next to a wall and hide EVERY wire behind it! i don't need surround sound for my gaming I'm not that retarded.
I haven't heard any of EQ2 music but I got a little chuckle from this ... Does EQ2 Have good music??? Or is it gonna be the same kind of music from EQ1 in which case I have to say go download some "quality mp3's" Your missing out bigtime.
I'm just jokin around I'm sure SOE didn't make the same mistake twice w/ the music :P
If all game audio content is 16bit and you bought the 24bit sound card just for the purpose of EQ2, then I suggest you take it back. Seems like a big waste of money if EQ2 won't have 24bit sound. All I have is the sound expert poster's words in this thread to go by though. Can anyone else confirm whether or not the sound in EQ2 will be 24 or 16 bit? I have heard that they will be supporting the lastest dolby surround sound version but other than that I am not sure on the details.
As for my speaker setup. I only have two front speakers and a subwoofer. The front speakers are on either side of my monitor and the subwoofer is below my desk but off to the right. It works really well for me and all the wires are behind my desk.
Actually, don't take it back just yet...
First, the game will be 16 bit for 3 simple reasons:
a) 24 bit audio material is 1.5 times the size of 16 bit. The game is already huge.
b) it will all be MP3'd anyway - you loose FAR more fidelity when you encode to MP3 than you do using 16 bit vs 24 bit samples in the first place. In other words, the whole reason for using 24 bit over 16 is utterly moot when you are using lossy compression.
c) the number of people who have 24 bit hardware is relatively small - let alone the percentage of people who understand why it's better to have than 16 bit.
All that really matters is that they are using EAX2 to it's potential. Other than that, the drivers for 24 bit cards will be mixing at 24 bit depth, so positional audio, obstruction/occlusion, and other EAX2 effects will be performed at 24 bit resolution, so it will perform better than on a 16 bit card. The dynamic range is also much higher, so if you have the speakers for it, a 24 bit EAX2 card will "sound" much better - even with 16 bit material.

lol i dont know....ever played SWG?
After spending 2 hours running across Tatoinne (vehicles werent in yet) did I realize I had not heard one bar of music...why? Simply because SWG only had music whenever it rained, sun went down or up, or when you shot at something. well, Tatoinne...it doesnt rain...lol
I hope they dont do that in EQ2 lol
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Hm? post failed? well i post it again.
Here's my speaker setup... old picture but speaker setup didnt change.

Currently set to stereo, but quadrophonic works fine too (just need a bigger mixing desk). soundcard = trust optical soundmaster 16bit 5.1 No problems with lower bitrates ("only" CD quality) the limiting factor for sound quality is ".mp3" atm. Going back to 4.0 (quadrophonic) when EQ2 releases

Cables?? I dont see cables. Why?
With my setup, I'm in the basement. I have these 2x4's that are angled in the ceiling, so I ran the wires up the wall and onto the ceiling. Then I hung two speakers in the ceiling (on the angled 2x4's). These two speakers are behind me.
For my other two speakers I just have them on desk. As for the subwoofer, it's underneath the desk. This gives me FANTASTIC, immersive sound for my music and games. The Mars Volta, my favorite band, sounds better than it does in my car. As for UT04, wow. I can definitly see how EQ2 could take advantage of any well put-together sound system. Hopefully it supports surround sound.
As for buying the other stuff that you got from Best Buy... I'd say it's time for you to chop up that debit/credit card! Maybe that'll stop the impulse buying of items online. lol
