Warhammer:nope, not the wow killer

I just picked it up today and it really reminds me of a cross between lotr and eq2 but not as cohesive and more primitive and choatic.now these are my very first impressions having just bought it today and spending a few hours playing.but first impressions can be everything and i can say with confidence that it will not knock wow of the block.

I dont care which one wins, as long as the community benefits from the competion.  I hope both get great numbers, will only make it better for us.

When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.

I don't care who wins as long as the 'world of everclone' design depletes itself some year.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Agreed, but in that case WoW winning would defenitely deplete is sooner.

    *Agreed*

Just get a game that interests you, play it, have fun.  Since when does the MMO world suffer from *highschool socialism*...oh wail...since WoW was released kids got access to online games.  There goes the community.

Well, not that it matters, but....I agree with the underlined part.  It's not a bad game.  It's actually good.  It's not GREAT, in MY OPINION anyway.

But seriously...everyone that posted here is feeling about the same as I do.  I'm just sick to death of all the debate over these games, specifically the WoW vs. WAR thing.

If people would just play what they enjoy and let everyone else do the same without endless attempts at manipulating others to agree with THEIR opinion about this game or that game.....

The forums, and thereby this tiny PIECE of the virtual world....would BE a better place.

    Okay, GOD.

So to me it's a WoW killer. WoW is nothing in comparison as far as I'm concerned. What do you do in PvP of WoW? Yeah, try me. I raid castles. Kiss my boozum.

Another useless opinion, in a useless thread, about a useless debate. Yet here I am posting my useless two cents.

I chalk it up to insecurity and the constant need for validation.  I think people like the OP need to feel that their opinion is that of the majority otherwise the little voice in the back of their mind keeps nagging that they are no longer with the "cool kids".

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Good for you!!  I hope you're enjoying that!  It sounds like you are. :)

Isn't that what we all PAY for....to enjoy ourselves??

Personally, it makes me happy when I see that someone is actually ENJOYING the game they're playing, because frankly, if you aren't enjoying it somehow then....why play it?  O.o

Heh.  I have to say....I suspect this is a fairly accurate assessment.  But then again....I'm not a psychologist.  However, it has the ring of truth to it!

I'm too old to give a crap what the "cool kids" are doing, so I just play what I enjoy playing.  LOL

I don't mind so much that there isn't a lot of talking.  Generally the talking is mindless chitchat anyway.  Some people enjoy that, but I'm not a huge fan of it.  As long as the game is fun it doesn't bother me to much.

Expecting an answer from say isn't very likely.  You have to use a more global chat where your message will get to a lot of people.  Say will only go to people that are right next to you.

If WAR is based on PVP with some PvE and WoW is PvE with some PvP then why would WAR kill WoW they are aiming at different markets?

Wow.  Just wow.  Thank you for stating what has had me baffled since the beginning of this silly debate.

The games are not even aimed at the same market, and I think that is a point that people somehow...just seem to be missing.

Not everyone is going to like ANY game.  Choices....therefore....are a GOOD THING.

All this talk about WoW killers just fukn baffles me.

Nothing is going to kill WoW. Not all gamers are mindless sheep who will give up playing a game they like to go and play one that might be the next most popular mmo. Did anyone seriously think that WAR was going to be such a huge success that every gamer was going to say "Shit, everyones playing WAR now.. I must fit in and allow myself to be assimilated into this mmo. Goodbye WOW.". Blizzard - "Oh well, thats it, WAR's stolen some of our players. We may as well give up on WOW, start shutting down the servers..".

If Ultima Online, Runescape, EQ are still running after all this time, what the fuck are the chances that something is going to kill WOW.

    Fanboi retardism ftw.

    Fixed.

You do understand what people mean by kill right? If you weren't so literal you would have noticed they meant that it would be the game to remove the majority of WoW players, not completely remove the game from existence.

Anyways, what do you think people did and are doing in WoW? Mindlessly killing the same mobs over and over to grind faction because it's so fun. Mindlessly being robots and constantly killing the same boss mobs over and over just to get an item to make themselves stronger because the game involves no other way to advance characters aside from levels and items.

But see, if games don't put up an incredible treadmill the people will not run in it. Other games that allow customization and alternative ways to advance their character don't do as well because it requires thought and planning. All you have to do in WoW is do the best dungeon majority of the time and you can instantly become stronger than anybody else despite their real player skill and time put towards fighting other players in PvP for instance. And that's the problem - People don't want anything but scripted fights that they can master. Not their character... No, that would involve player skill, they just want to read a guide and complete an instance that required no thought of how to overcome. 90% of the guilds out there read guides and complete instances like it's some sort of challenge. Hahaha, it's just so pathetic.

You're right though, nothing is going to kill WoW.

What is pathhetic is the game makers.  Humans naturally like the feeling of success.  Finishing a mission, getting an item, killing something others think is hard creates a good feeling in people.

What we need is a company willing to take the time, money, and imagination to create a game that redefines success that is not a grind.  We need a game that had multipile ways to get from beginning to end game.  A game where all levels of play can do and succeed at all levels.  Eve captures this in come ways, but fails in some also.  A first level character if the moment is right should be able to kill anyone, but it should be more difficult.   Success should be in the players hand not in the hand of the designer of the game and how much you grind on their tredmill.

Hmm..just a quick question. How many topic are you going post up about your disappointment about WAR and how its not a "WoW killer"? To be quick honest, the pple that actually likes WAR can give a rat ass if it's not a WoW killer...we like it none the less.

i dont think many people really expected a wow killer . to be honest wows too popular a game for there to be a wow killer for many years to come . what will happen is new games like warhammer will come along which will slowly chip away at the blizzard regular monthly subscriber base . i fully intend to return to wow at some point and play it again but with warhammer about as well i ll proberly alternate between the two (not forgetting lord of the rings as well ).

i think you ll find like ultima online warcraft will reach its tenth birthday and still have a pretty good user base .

this is nt the end or warcraft but it is the begining of the end of warcrafts dominance of the mmo market .

i would expect to see a few server mergers in the next year or two and a drop of one -- two million monthly subs . quite signifcant but wow is such a popular game it can easily survive such loses .

None of the Warhammer fans though it would knock WoW off the block. I can't believe you bought the game with that mindset, your stupidity just baffles me...
