KOTOR MMO?!?!?11!?

DouhkDouhk Member Posts: 1,019

Say what now??

If it's made by bioware and is anything like KOTOR I and II then I'll be buying this game, exterminating all of my former friends, build myself a $5,000 dollar computer and just sit there until I die of starvation. Probably the neatest thing I've ever heard of for MMOs in a long time... this could be simply amazing.

I realize I'm a little late in the ball-game when it comes to figuring this out, but what do others think about with a KOTOR MMO? Have any hype / interest in something like this? Would you prefer it to be a SP RPG like it has been for the past two games? Do you think bioware would be able to pull something like this off by making a KOTOR that not only exceeds both of it's predecessors by two-fold, but is also made playable in an MMO universe from the SP perspective (which is asking alot)?

I could only hope... and that it's released somewhere before 2011, even that is a long time to wait, but considering info of production is just getting out then I wouldn't think it'd be any sooner.

It's only been announced recently.. but being like most MMOs it'll be rediculously overhyped come Beta time and by release it'll have labels like "Most Innovative Combat System Ever" and such junk attached to it.

If they do it right and focus on ALL the classes not just the Jedi then there's hope for it. Otherwise we'll be stuck (Again *cough*SWG:NGE*cough*) with a million Jedi running around.

Lol aint that the truth.. *curses NGE and feels sick whenever it's mentioned*

Personally i think it could be a damn good idea if done right, more open and multiplayer is all i felt was missing from the SP games of KotOR.

yeah you're right. I'm crossing my fingers that it's going to be awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the KOTOR series.

    "It's only been announced recently.."

That is incorrect, it has not been officially announced yet.  It has been accidentally leaked that Bioware is working on a Star Wars game.  That is about all we know.   We will have to wait for the official announcement until we can speculate further on what form the game will take.

What Ciredric said.  People have inferred a lot from very little official information.  No telling what sort of game they're really working on.

Umm. i may be wrong but wasnt each class in Kotor  all jedi-esk classes.  By this i mean they were all jedi but just focused on a differant aspect of it?

And to be honost if they make it anything like SWG before or after NGE i wont be playing it.

yeah, you are wrong. Carth and Mission are a couple who come to mind who were not jedi....plus the numerous other characters in both titles.

However, even though they were not jedi, they were perfectly viable in combat, and could hold their own in almost all circumstances. They had abilities that the jedi characters did not, and I'm hoping that this carries over into the MMO. This will give players a reason to play smugglers, commandos, etc, plus help in the construction of well-rounded groups.

I am carefully optimistic about this one....although as the OP stated, it could be the end of Real Life.

I predict that this will fall into the same situation as Darkfall. People will prop it up on a really high pedestal and strike down upon those who doubt its awesome potentialness.

Guys, a KOTOR MMO would HAVE to have a million jedi running around.

It's set thousands of years before the movies, the jedi are in abundance, not dwindling numbers like in the later movies.

Well I was asking for an actual, serious opinion, but O.K.

Not exactly sure why you are comparing Darkfall to the KOTOR games. Completely different genres for one thing. And a second thing being by the companies they are run by. Not to mention your comparisons of a KOTOR MMO and Darkfall didn't really make any sense. There wasn't a Darkfall SP RPG beforehand of this coming MMO, was there (serious question)? If anything the two games would have to be exactly opposite in every possible way.

once we start seeing screenshots, and start actually hearing about the progress of the game, I'm willing to bet a testicle that the hype will far exceed that of Darkfall.

Sorry, you didn't really make that clear. But on that note, yes I agree with you. In fact, this game will probably be gaining twice as much hype, because, simply, it can really be a fantastic MMO. The Star Wars universe is perfect for an MMO. Even if Turbine doesn't hype it up (which they most likely will) it will be more likely hyped up by the players.

But the thing is hype has nothing to do with the quality of the game. A game could have a ton of hype and live to it's expectations (though rare) or a game could have no hype and live to be epic. A game could have no hype and also be a load of crap, too. I don't get why people like to take hype into consideration as much as just keeping track of what the actual testers say about a game before release rather then the companies themselves (when we're talking about exact details of the game, anyhow).

You're right.  Not to mention the title is "KNIGHTS of the Old Republic."  Wouldn't make sense if Jedi/Sith weren't everywhere.  The theme of the game is Jedi vs Sith.  If a KOTOR MMO is made it will have lots of Jedi.  At least this time it fits with the lore unlike SWG.  SW fans want to play Jedi and some people just need to get over it.

A friend of mine who is a huge SW fan and WoW enthusiast said he would be happy if this MMO was like WoW in the SW universe...

After spending a few hours puking in the toilet I had to strongly disagree.  I really hope it doesn't come to just Jedi vs Sith, Light vs Dark like the two factions in WoW.

I see this as the most limiting design aspect to a player who may not want his character to be born into one faction or the other.

And even though there would be many Jedi running around, some people would rather not be one.  And I realize that some people want to be part of the fight between Jedi and Sith, but it's not like that conflict wouldn't be there if there were other paths to choose from.

We still don't know exactly when this would take place, it could even be during the Mandalorian Wars.  There are plenty of viable factions to choose from in the KotOR universe.

Yep, I think one of the biggest screw ups with SWGs was the fact that they offered other classes and the jedi as a class you had to earn.

People are going to want to play jedis in a Star Wars video game. I think what would make more sense for the game would be that everyone is a jedi but performs specific roles. A healing jedi uses powers of the force to heal his teammates and a blaster to fight off jedis from a range (of course, guiding / altering the fire with the force to make it more jedi-esque). An aggresive jedi uses double-bladed sabers and just rushes in chopping people apart. And a focused jedi of the force uses his force from a range, blowing crap up with it's mind, while using a single lightsaber mixed with agressive force to fend off foes who decide to get too close. You could make jedis fit any role if you wanted.

The only class other then the jedi that even vaguely interested me in Pre-NGE SWG was the bounty hunter. Maybe he could be an exception...

An official announcement is when they do the press kit, put up a website and actually announce the game with a title.  NONE of that has occurred, all he did was aknowledge that they were working on something related to KOTOR, that is it period.   So at this moment no one, but Bioware knows exactly what they are working on except that it is Kotor related from that slip.  When they actually have the official announcement we will actually know what they are working on.

Anyways, it will be at least 2010 or 2011 before we get to see the game, alot can happen between then.  Knowing bioware it will have classes and that will just merge it will all the other Wow immitations, so don't hold your breath.
