The problem is WoW players who have a decent amount of intelligence realize that they are about to get the reset button on all of their characters pressed and it is out of their control.  Now they have to entertain themselves instead of wasting time on gear that is about to be made obsolete.  Now this is the higher end of the intelligent community within WoW, and these are the ones you see trolling our forums.  Read through bodypass's post history and it should keep you entertained for at least an hour or two.

Well, there are obvious exceptions to what you've said.

I've only played WoW since a couple months after TBC came out, and have numerous alts, most in their 20s, one in their 30s, one near 60, and a 70. Honestly, you could put me in with the "WoW'ers with decent intelligence", but at the same time, I'm not trolling the WAR boards. Personally, I want  to play the game, but at the moment I dont have the cash (Sept-Dec is gonna be hell for my wallet).

I got lucky and got into the Lich King beta, and honestly the most fun I've had playing it would be the DK, only thing in the game that truelly feels new, the rest feels somewhat rehashed. I'm getting Lich king, I'm certain I'll have some fun with it, but its more of a gift for my family since they love the game and they havent gotten past 30, but are excited for it. I see it as 10 more levels of entertainment, before the inevitable brick wall that is gear pops into play. Hell, if they made it so you could get Ashbringer, I'd raid for that just cause of the name behind it, but that is a no now.

So, now I'm resigned to playing the LK Beta, waiting on Earthrise, playing the ungodly amount of new games comin out via rental, and hoping that Mythic makes a free trial for War

No no.  I would put you in the top 10%.  Actually lately with what has been going on in these forums I would put you in the top 1-2%.

Well this personal reaction asks for a personal answer:

I don't think ProfRed doesn't play WAR at all. Because he posts about 10times more posts than I and refuses to acknowledge the fact that he hates WoW.

I play Wow yes and so the guy hates me, like he hates everything about Wow. He looses about all control when you mention the word "Wow" to him. Wow - there, ..

Now this thread was about Wow as a game, so of course we react, don't we?

As for those who had the courage to view the new Lake Winter video's in our Wow forums already know now: it IS a pity Blizzard is raising the standards of PvP in WotLK again. I can't help it either.

Have fun with WAR while it lasts.

You see that date under your icon that shows when you registered?  See how I registered in 2003 and have a little over 1300 posts?  See how you registered a week or two ago and have almost 100 posts?  I think you can do the math to realize how wrong you are.

I don't hate WoW.  I have said many times how much I enjoyed WoW in the early days.  The World PvP of Tarren Mill, and the first time I got mind control in thousand needles.  What I hate is Blizzards choices in the game since a few months after launch with the direction of World PvP, BG's, Honor, and their overall choices which shaped the game into the shallow gear grind it has become.

I play Wow yes and so the guy hates me, like he hates everything about Wow. He looses about all control when you mention the word "Wow" to him. Wow - there, ..

It is impossible for me to hate or love anyone I have never met.  I have no feelings towards you with regards to hate.  I don't have any respect for you.  If you want to understand this picture someone you really respect.  Think about them for a few minutes.  Try to think about how they would represent themselves, and how they would talk or act.  Then read your own post history.

Now this thread was about Wow as a game, so of course we react, don't we?

Why is it a pity if they are raising the standards?  I don't understand what PvP standards they raised in the first place.  If you are refering to BG's and Arena than this is a laughable statement.  If you are refering to their combat system then yeah they did a kickass job.  Blizzard knows how to make quality games that sell to the masses.  I love their combat.  It is where they applied their combat that is a problem.  So they have 10 million customers?  So does Miley Cyrus.

Have fun with WAR while it lasts.

Believe me man.  I have been.

As an active Wow player I can only say that WAR doesn't even touch the principles of a World you LIVE in, like Blizz would say.

I played WAR for 12 days - open beta incl. (stopped playing these last 2 days) because I am completely bored with the WAR theme.

But like you say: every WOW player could play this game and see for himself. The game is an absolute living publicity for WotLK. WAR is the absolute opposite of what a MMO R P G should be about.

WAR is a one song CD artist with one chord in C-minor: WAR. Like all one song CD artists they don't last very long.

I am not even talking of other aspects like lack of flying units, lack of an open seamless world, lack of decent class management (mana anyone?), lack of CC, lack of general polish (MOB behaviour is a laugh), lack of challenging bosses, lack of challenging PQ, lack of different Keep designs, lack of things like fishing, Role Playing elements like sleeping, sitting on chairs etc...

    ---------->

The biggest problem of WAR is the capped 500/500 servers btw. And that's a technical issue not so easily solved.

They are limited because of the server lag you can see in the bigger fights (players who suddenly "jump" 5 - 10 meters). They lowered simply the number of players per server to resolve it.... but this will create problems in the long run: 500 people on each side will thin out the population and result in scenario waiting times of extreme length, too thin populated areas over 4 Tiers etc ...

I even think this was the reason they left out the 4 other capitols. 500 people playing on one side is just too few to have any meaningful number in 6 capitol sieges.

You see I already researched a little more than the "surface" of Tier 1 and Tier 2 of this game and like I said ... in about 5 or 6 weeks time the majority will see the same things.

In the meantime : have a nice stay in WAR.

lol you fanboi....wow sucks and u are scared WAR is better lalalala

The problem is that its so easy for people to see similarities, yet not the differences between the two. Both have green orcs, both have sides that are pretty clear-cut good/evil, with names not helping ( Alliance/Horde and Order/Chaos). There's a few more details, but its nothing more than nitpicking lol

And top 10% Red? Woot I feel special now!

The irony of that statement, is in fact, it's 'not' new.  The whole premise of this game  originated in DAoC, but Mythic have taken it to a new level.

'RvR'< tm> is coming up 10yrs old.  It was awesome at the inception, but the new environs and different styles of RvR in Warhammer is absolutely awesome.  This is a title that will take the MMO community by storm.  This game is a massive WoW syphon, and will be worrying Blizzard immensely.

Blizzard are still the premier gaming company in my opinion, and that has nothing to do with WoW, but the other titles that we all knew were heading onto bigger and better stuff.  They know WoW has peaked, and Diablo 3 and the next big project are already well underway.  WoW has exceeded all expectations, and it has earned all concerned eternal hero status....or of course, vilification depending on your slant of the game.

Mythic have slammed dunked this game in a big way.  Relatively speaking it was a more than adequate launch, and the game is bursting with content.  It's a winner, and anyone who is the least amount curious about RvR should try it.  Nobody does it better..

Has anyone else noticed how the WoW commercials had mostly faded away and then... bam!  Right before WAR's open beta started there were WoW commercials all over the place.  It's obvious they're worried WAR will take away SOME of their market share.

1.5 million copies shipped.  That's over 10% of WoW's population.  Not all of those copies have sold yet, and not all of the ones that sold went to WoW players.  But Blizzard knows this game has the potential to be the most serious competition they've seen yet.

Yeah, WAR could do an AoC and end up going right down the drain.  Heck, AoC launched with an 8.7 rating on here.  Four months later is down to 6.66 and still dropping.  WAR has started with an even higher rating, and COULD have just as spectacular of a collapse.  That's very unliekly, though.  WAR actually shipped with every promised feature.  (Yes, I know some people will debate me about the cities and the class cuts, but that happened quite a bit before launch, and there wasn't any cover up about it.)  WAR is also a lot more stable, with far fewer bugs.  But none of those things were what really did AoC in.  The failure on Funcom's part was that they created a game that is extremely fast to reach maximum level in, but didn't have any of the end game content actually working.  Or even close to working.  So all these people got to high levels and ran out of content, then got to max level and found nothing really to do.  We haven't seen WAR's end game yet, so we don't know how players will respond.

Only time will tell.  But yes, WAR is serious competition for WoW at this point in time, and Blizzard knows it.
