Death in mmorpg

whats everyones opinion on character death in a mmorpg ?

I'd like to see a system (with pvp of course) where if your char dies it cannot be played for at least 3 hours. ::::40::

That would keep you on your toes!

    that would keep you TOO MUCH on your toes

    imagine looking for a group for nearing 2 hours, and you find one

    the exp is awesome! however, the healer goes afk for 30 seconds to go "make his ramen"

    the tank dies

    the tank can't come back for 3 hours

    the group splits

    you go search for another group again

    Yea lol that's a really bad death system IMO..

    Anyway.. for me:

    PvE game: Just xp debt.
    PvP: Item drop, no XP debt/loss.

    I always liked the old death systems....

    Like EQ and AO used to have. If you died in EQ you lost XP wich is a bummer and you had to do a corpse run if you wanted your stuff back. I wasnt to thrilled with the CR but loss of XP will keep you from just rushing foolishly into danger.

    AO had the same system without the corpse runs. The biggest difference being in AO you could not lose a level. Also Ao provided terminals at wich you could save your current xp.

    Anything more harsh than that will tend to frustrate players and they wont want to play anymore.

    Best death system: World of warcraft. You get 3 choices upon death (corpse run, ressurection or graveyard respawn with penalty), cant get much better than that.

    No Death System is what I would like.

    Why do we need one ?

    What is needed is a penality for having the mob take you to zero health. PERIOD!

    When that hapens most games at this point implement the "Death" and have to deal with a host of issues ( ie: corps runs, spawn else where, items left on corps, REZ grrrr).

    Toss out death and you end so much code / design issues.

    Players health goes to 0, Hit them with an EXP penality ( adjustable )
    Players health goes to full( or half - adjustable), Mobs health goes up X amount ( adjustable)
    fight goes on. Give player a way to end find after first Exp hit ( window "end fight", despawns mob)

    Advantages-
    No CR's, NO Rez's, NO Looting your corps, No having to run back to group, no losing a few players and taking 30min - 2hrs to reform a new group.

    Disadvantages
    I am sure you guys will let me know :)

    I am making a MMORPG and i have thought of my death system already. When you go to 0 health you get knocked out. When you log back on you wake up in a hospital with low hp, less exp, and some lost equipment. The creature that killed you will have a few of your items/gold and other stuff. If you get knocked out 3 times in one day or 10 times in a weak you will die. Yes die, your character will be lost forever unless someone pays a huge amount to resurect you (according to what level you were) or unless a Legend ressurects you withen a week.

     

    What do you guys think?

    I agree with starman999. Out of the mmorpgs i have played, EQ has had the most balanced death system IMO (please dont hate me). Sure, corpse runs sucked, and alot of people hated EQ for them, but they were what gave EQ some of its class.

    Yeah right how about if every time you die you have to give up a testicle and when you run out of those you give up vital organs psssh 3 hours die
