I am even more excited about this damn game! It would be funny to see someone come into this thread and scream vaporware! I would laugh my ass off!

It's no longer vaporware, but it is no where near the praise it has. No one has a clue what it will turn out like and judging by the community that is backing this game, the slew of idiots are going to drive away any success for this MMO to begin with.

This is the only thing I am afraid of concerning this game; and that is many of the "fans" I have seen representing the game.

I am not stating ALL of the fans....just many. So I am not pointing fingers to all of you when I say this. Also, try not to get personally offended with what I am about to say. If you can, try to consider it as constructive criticism and I will be short and sweet.

If this game is to truly prosper, then some of you guys need to lighten up and stop being so "damning." I understand that many of you guys are fed up with people calling this game vaporware. With that said, both sides of the fence has valid argument. On one side of the fence, people labeling the game as vaporware has a good reason to say so. You all know the reasons why I don't need to rehash them here.

On the other side of the fence you have people who have been following the game for seven years and have gotten a thick skin due to the attacks of their game.

With that said, the fans of this game seriously needs to be a little more "relaxed." The rate many of you guys are going, you are going to scare away many other people who are interested in the game but are currently scared of the community it may bring.

Take it for what it's worth.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

If you actually visit Fourmfall you'll realize most of the members are just arrogant assholes (Including myself). We want a serious community for our oh so serious game I suppose. People will be laid back when the game comes out =P After all you do make your name in the game world, so I am sure a lot of people won't act like asshats or jerks that much. Then again if they do, you can kill them

Once people realise the size of the world and that it will take effort to track down and kill people who don't wan't to die the game should develop into something special.

    If DFO have not got the mechanics right to limit the suicide Orcs or Alfar then the game will die and DFO will get everything they deserve but I don't believe that to be the case.;

Anyone know if this is good stuff? I have no idea myself what this GNI thing is. I thought the devs were going to develop their own clusters and servers, have they changed their minds?

Anyway, it was never vaporware, all things are vaporware till they come out after all.

  • TherruTherru Member Posts: 5

Yeah, I'd really like to know the quality of these servers as well. I'm hoping it's good, but I imagine some people in the industry would be somewhat skeptical of Darkfall for various reasons (indie company, long development time, etc)

Bad servers can totally screw up a game, I've seen it happen.

  • ganbeeganbee Member Posts: 233

I see it as this, probably will have gankers around the Major cities and local gather points. When you get out in the world of darkfall You will see people few and far between.  Grouping for high traffic times and solo in the off hours. I am just Glad I read this article, seems like there getting close too beta and release and I will have something other too do instead of going down the game list looking for some game I have not tried. Lol thats how I found out about this game!

  • downtoearthdowntoearth Member Posts: 3,558

Gni is pretty good there just provideing the servers really

Unfortunately we will see many "fans" of this game that in all reality are nothing but donkies. I think it is the fact that the game is FFA PvP, seems to bring out the jackass in many people that want to brag about their "skill" or this and that.

It's vaporware. It has been vaporware, and therefore will always be vaporware.

If you think software is no longer vaporware when it has been released then I'm curious how Adventurine "selecting" a webhost makes it any less vaporware? If the video was not enough, then why a webhost?  Regardless, software does not become non-vaporware because they might sometime, or even probably will release, but when they do release. When it releases, then and only then will it no longer be vaporware. That's assuming you choose that definition, and don't believe that it will always be vaporware regardless of actual release.

    Vaporware (n):

a product, esp. software, that is promoted or marketed while it is still in development and that may never be produced.

New software that has been announced or marketed but has not been produced.

Products announced far in advance of any release (which may or may not actually take place).

    Looks good to me

"We evaluated a number of options for Hellgate: London's infrastructure but in the end, we were convinced that GNi demonstrates a singular commitment to quality and a deep understanding of online game hosting. The flexibility that the GNi business model offers us is also extremely attractive."

    Peter Hu, CTO, Flagship Studios

So they've done big business before, they are partnered with IBM, BitTorrent, and more.

Seems like Adventurine spared no expense.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

Hey this is cool! So that means they are close to a publisher in the US? It is a step towards that it seems. Nice this is on Marketwatch lol, a better accolade than a PC mag.

    ---------

Oh man, you know a few of you guys don't understand you are so similar to the trolls and haters you are condemning. They are just some passionate folks holding dearly something they will defend unflinchingly, perhaps some like to open their big mouths. All you need to know is that the one's who choose to support quietly Darkfall and only occasional pop up to defend it, like me, make up most of the community.

My name is DFO_GTFO, it exemplifies the community I am apart of. I may not reflect the views of forumfall, but I would much rather be apart of that community than this one. I registered here to hype Darkfall because the game looks like it will show people what an MMO can do, I don’t see myself wasting my time here because I would never want to play what most of the people in this community think an MMO is supposed to be. The ruthless nature of forumfallers is much more inviting because I know the reason behind it.

Forumfallers are passionate gamers that know what an mmo can be and are tired of what an mmo is currently. By that definition I am a forumfaller, so in the tradition of forumfall GTFO!

You do realize that with that definition, you just stripped away any power that word had, right? You just trivialized it by making every piece of software vaporware, and along the way empowered DF.

That's just bad trolling, and bad not in a good way, just awful, terrible trolling.

Damn, these days you trolls're making this confrontation way too easy.

No. GNi is not a publisher. They are simply hosting the servers (which will be kinda bad to have servers away from the actual comany).

The publisher will still be the greek VHS/DVD distributor no matter where they sell the game.

Honestly, they just need to move forward after so long in development.  I understand that there are issues with not having the servers in house, but that's not axactly a fatal flaw.  There is no reason to garner half a million subscribers at launch, not that it wouldn't be great for Aventurine, but maybe the slow and steady approach (ala EvE) is better for the long run because if they get in over their head the whole thing is likely to implode like so many other failed MMO efforts in the past.

As I said in the other tread about this I do not think many MMO companies have their servers on site, Blizzard and Sony both use AT&T in the US which is no different than what Aventurine is doing.

Your statement implies that Blizzard must host their own Chinese servers.  In fact everything is outsourced and ran on licence by a 3rd party company and it seems work fine.  Half their customers have zero interaction with Blizzard and it's the most successful mmorpg by a wide margin.

Um.... Ok first off have you ever noticed while playing an MMO on a European server when your in the US you tend to lag a bit? There is a reason for that. The European server is located in..... You guessed it Europe. Servers are hosted in different area's so that people can play with a better connection. The farther a signal travels the weaker it becomes. This is just how it is. So if all servers were in Greece well then everyone that isn't relatively close to Greece would have a hard time.

I for one have never been a big follower of this game. But I did read about it on its main page here at mmorpg.com. Also have ready many posts made by others on this game.

The entire game sounds awsome except for one thing. First Person. I for one do not mind first person in most games, however when I play an mmorpg I would at least like the option for third  or first person. With that being said the game still seems that it will be fun regardless of the mindless Zergs that will be playing the game as well. Then again as a roleplay standpoint, the mindless zerging/raid partys of the orcs and those Wolf people would bring a nice touch to the game. Anyways, I can look past the first person view. It is disheartening that the game has been in development for so long, but ont he bright side of things when it does come out it should be very polished.

    Kick to the Face.
