what do you think? will DFO be more like RPG or FPS? im affraid, it will turn shortly into MMOFPS. into giant quake level, with multiple clans fighting on it.

i will do my best (i will roleplay a lot) to avoid that. but maybe that is Your desire? to play DFO like MMOFPS?

what is Your opinion?

I followed Darkfall main board since Razorwax time.

Darkfall have the most roleplayers seen in any game.

According to this poll over 63 % is roleplayers of different degrees.

Darkfall is the game that can deliver a superb roleplaying athmosphere.

    thank you for your answer.

64% - that means, 36% will not role play. it is a lot. however, 64% is a lot more.

    64% + 1 now - i voted myself. :)

Yeah, a good PvP centric sandbox game is usually a roleplayers dream as the world is what you make of it. Also the open PvP atmosphere allows players to directly influence the game world to a degree that just isn't possible in a PvE game. I'm sure that the percentage of roleplayers will be higher in Darkfall than even that poll indicates. People will be roleplaying without even realizing it as they will be interacting with the game world in ways they can't even imagine at this point.

I will like to add to this thread that, imo, the concept of FPS and RPG can coexist.

You can have roleplaying with FPS mechanisms.

What DFO is proposing its to have some of the FPS mechanism for the combat system.  That doesnt mean people wont be able to roleplay.

    This will be a MMO.

It will have some FPS mechanisms.

It will be a RPG too.  Its seems that there may not be a RP server but... in the end... what is a RP server.  Usually it has some rule sets... like:

    - Naming rules.  But you wont see the name of the people over their head so it wont be too bad... you wont see xxxsuperskillsxxx running next to you.

    - Chating rules.  I dont know how the chatting system will be so I dont know how this will be.  But if you join a RP guild, usually most people will be in roll and have normal names for RPing.

The game supposely will be rvery big in size so you will be able to go with your guildies to a remote land, for example, and create your "kingdom".  And you will be able to defend it, roleplay and try to kill anyone messing around with your roleplay experience.

That this game seems to me to be more a MMOFPSRPG than a MMOFPS or MMORPG hehehe

But we will know soon, I hope.

Im pretty sure DF is a pure RPG. DF is build with player freedom in mind, and that will mostly be used by the role players. I would almost say that you need the freedom to be able to have great role playing.

Or atleast i always have more fun roleplaying in sandbox MMOs then in static ones.

I agree. Right now, when you say "MMO" people think of the plastic theme-park games we're being force fed. Hopefully in the future, when NPCs are capable of doing quests and collecting loot and (hopefully) building things just like people, we will be able to treat them like people and have a higher level of immersion.

Depends on how many people roleplay shooting others, or how many people roleplay while shooting others. Well, that and whether you can chat while playing, and whether you can have x's in your name.

    ...?

Really, depends on what other features there are. It certainly won't be a pure MMOFPS, but if there aren't many other features than combat, or the features only support the combat, then it certainly would not be an unreasonable characterization.

If the crafting system, trade skills, economy, quests, and other non-combat features merit interest from the players, then I'm sure everyone would consider it MMORPG with FPS-style combat.

Basically, if the video is basically what we get, then it's a MMOFPS. If they deliver what they've promised, then it's a MMORPG. It'll prolly land mostly in the middle, leaning more towards MMOFPS side, but will be considered a MMORPG simply because most MMO's are RPG's. But that's just pure guess.

Darkfall reminds me of the "Vampire bloodlines" game in its gameplay mechanics part.

I believe its gona a well balanced hybrid with rpg on its base plus the fps action.
