Is the SWG license being pulled from SOE by Lucas Arts in Jan 09? I thought I read this or heard it online in another game.... Not sure how this got into my brain... so am I correct?
Please dont flame me this is an honest question.

Not that I have heard.
I doubt that it would be announced until the very last minute to keep the games current subscribers. This has been floating around for a few years.
At least since CU but I remember most of the chatter starting after NGE was released.

There has been a rumor going on for quite some time of license being expired, usually in the month of Feb. Might just want to do a web search and see if the same words have been used, with just changes to the year.
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
Yup, this rumor usually surfaces every year right after the holiday season, as February is just weeks away and the hope of those who want SOE to suffer is perpetually dashed when nothing happens.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Holy deja vu...
This rumour comes and goes every year and its always about the license being up in Jan or Feb of that year. It's really funny to see people talking about it and taking it seriously still.
Holy time sink, dude!!!!
I thought I spent to much time playing games (2-4 hours a night), You have been in game over a full year 24/7 with no breaks.
And 93 hours in one week? Normal folks don't usually even work that many hours in a week, there is only 168 hours in a week in the first place, that means if you slept a full 8 hours every night you would only have 2 hours a day to eat, crap and... well.... I guess that is it, eat crap sleep and play a game...
Are you retired? how can you spend that much time playing a computer game and still be alive? I don't mean to offend.... But unless you are retired or live off your parents, you don't have enough time to work or make money (I would have said rich, but even rich folks have to do other things, otherwise they don't stay rich). I guess you could be botting your character, I have heard a lot of the gold farmers do that as a job rather than play games for enjoyment
Holy crap... 93 hours in a week, absolutely unbelievable, I couldn't sit that long, I bow to you in reverence of your ability to spend that much time in a game, especially after the NGE.

Maybe he doesnt log out when he's not playing. I used to do it all the time in AO. Was logged in pretty much 24/7
-Currently looking forward to FFXIV
-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda
Anyone know who exactly pays for what? Does LEC pay for the license and for developement..and SOE is just contracted out to do the dev'ing. Do they go 50/50? Does one pay for the IP while the other pays for development? Anyone know?
See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
It doesn't matter to me if the license for the game gets yanked or not.
I smile with pleasure seeing it thrash around like a 2-legged dog.

We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Some people stay logged in using macros to try and improve the xfire stats for SWG.
I don't think they will lose there license but i think it will be re-vamped it so that bio-ware can have a star wars mmo on the market aswell.
Wow, the current game must be a ton of fun if you (the games most vocal supporter) feel the need to afk.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

From the original press release:
"The Star Wars online game will be developed by Verant, distributed and sold at retail by LucasArts, and available for play exclusively online at The Station@sony.com "
*If* BioWare are indeed working on a Star Wars mmo, it will be the demise of SWG, unless SOE are willing to give up exclusive rights (I very much doubt)

That is what I thought might happen to SWG, it turned into a zombie game, nobody on most of the time, eccept for non-living players.Botters normally damage the quality of most games, but I guess in SWG it is the only thing keeping it undead (it ain't alive anymore).
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Star Wars Fan who has played every Star Wars game I could find (Arcade, Atari 2600, Vic20, Commodore64 and on the PC). I played SWG and loved it for two years, I still even resub my SWG account once or twice a year (since NGE) to see what is shaking (the last time, back in January, where I met several twinked out, kill stealing massholes) .
The only people (and undead zombie bots) still playing are the hard-core, die- hard fans. You know the type... they have Star Wars weddings, give their pets pets names like; "Yoda" and "Obi-Wan", and may even have a child named "Luke" or "Leia". These are the types of people that will not abandon a Star Wars game for anything short of death (theirs, not a friend or family member), these folks will continue beating that dead horse until it is nothing but a soft spongy mass with a large puddle around it (all the while screaming incoherently to others about it not being dead).
The only reason that SOE has not lost the IP is because (1.) It still has a trickle of money coming in for LA, (and Lucas loves his money) (2.) refer to number One. That is it.
The reason I think that 2009 will be the year that SOE loses the IP;
Bioware has already released info that it is working on a SW MMO, but has not made an official announcement (that's odd, the most succesful IP in the world and they are keeping it mum? Why?) Well, it is because SOE still has the IP, and probably made a deal stating they LA couldn't sell the IP to any other MMO game company (for a certain amount of time or some such). Bioware is waiting till they get the IP before making the "official" announcement for legal reasons. But the moment that LA has approved the KOTORO game, you can bet your ass they will pay off SOE and drop them like a hot potato, since SWGNGE is a huge black eye to LA, in the eyes of a huge portion of their fanbase (hundreds of thousands more than play SWGNGE). The card game (last minute cash grab), character transfers (cash grab) no server merge, just prove that SOE doesn't deserve the IP.
But that is just my opinion on the matter, take that with a grain of salt.

No, I've got to disagree with that, a true Star Wars nut would leave the noob station, land in Eisley and see Jedi running around all over the place and instantly log off.

SWG hasnt been Star Wars in a loooong time.
It would be nice for it to be put down like the lame horse it is.
I DID send an actual letter (nice linen stock and all) to George Lucas, this was many moons ago. I wonder if he looked at it, so if SWG is given the ax, you can thank (or blame) me.
LOL
S*D
LucasArts has mentioned George Lucas' son plays SWG. I don't think George will be having SWG shutdown
From the original Verant/LA press release:
"The Star Wars online game will be developed by Verant, distributed and sold at retail by LucasArts, and available for play exclusively online at The Station@sony.com"
As soon as a new Star Wars mmo is ready to be released SWG is toast, or do you think SOE will be willing to rescind exclusive rights?

Exclusive rights to Star Wars Galaxies, but last I checked the new game is not called that, its called KOTOR3 or something similar to that. The game it says is exclusively for sony will STILL be exclusively for them, the new game is a separate entity.

No, re-read the press release excerpt. "Star Wars online game"

I would never presume to predict what genius will do in the future.
If his son is playing it, that is great!! That means that GL has some exposure to it and can see that it is not his vision of SW.
Game Over.

Well, that is what killed it for me....
Before the NGE I was an ofiicer for the Empire, Bounty Hunter/Entertainer, and after playing that character for several months, I had a glow of the force, had not decided to continue training to become Jedi, since I had a ton of fun capturing my bounties and playing my music in the Cantinas.
Damn, I'm getting all teary-eyed just thinking of the game 4 years ago...
After the NGE, every 14 year old rolled Jedi, and utterly ruined the immersion for me, entertainers were borked, so I was forced to became full bounty hunter. I unsubbed and stopped playing 1 month after NGE.
I have nothing against the Jedi class, but pre-NGE it was something you had to work towards, to make an effort to achieve, post NGE it is just a Star Wars kid class.
But I blame both LA and SOE for the NGE fiasco, LA got a lot of complaints from the kiddies who wanted to be a Jedi with no work, SOE wanted to steal WoW subscribers, so they shoved this on us ignoring the player feedback. That sure worked in their favor, hunh?
All that is left know are the undead...
