I cant beliviv there wont be atleast a tem PvP at launch. its perfect for it you have 2 cities one good one evil. So we are supposed to play on a PvE server untill they decide to implement a PvP then start over.
they could atleast do the old loot one item system till they come up with something better for those of us who prefer pvp.

I am completely indifferent to whether or not this game has PVP. That being said, if I really wanted a PVP game, I'd go find one! If that is your niche, go find a game that suits you. You will be much happier in the end instead of waiting for EQ2, which may or may not have pvp for a while, if ever. I don't think that is so unreasonable.
There are no rules stated anywhere that "All MMORPG's must have PVP".
HEY.....
Let the man have his say. He has as much right as you to express his disdain vineyard.
The fact is there were alot of EQ fans early on who played on the PVP servers. These people dont want to "go play another game" they want to play EQ2. It is their right to express their desire for PVP in the game. If you dont like hearing about it then why dont you go to another forum?
I like EQ and I like PVP. This is something you will find is true about many EQ players. We simply want the developers of the game to take that into account. It does not make sense for them to alienate paying customers that they could easily appease by adding a server that caters to their playstyle. Same goes for roleplayers.
ROLEPLAYERS UNITE!!!!!
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
Personally, if PvP means screwing up the class balance for PvE then I hope they completely forget about it. EQ2 could actually get class balance right from the start and PvP would screw that up no matter how you look at it. Balancing PvE and PvP isn't easy and both greatly suffer when you try to.
Now if people that want PvP don't care about the classes being balanced for PvP and just being balanced for PvE I say put in PvP but the PvP crowd shouldn't complain about one class being to powerful or not powerful enough or one having an unfair advantage over another class.
Amen Effect ......
YOU ARE OFFICIALLY MVP (most valuable poster) OF THE DAY!!!!!
I 100% agree with you. There is no reason to balance classes against each other. If it were up to me I would balance the game for PVE and let the cards fall where they may. Too many games got screwed up because they tried to make all the classes the same.
DO NOT make everyone equal. PVP is not necessarily about dueling each other one on one. In an MMO there are factions and groups with what are supposed to be very different classes who are all strong in some ways and weak in others. It lets people learn to play to their strengths and keeps one class from becoming the uber in every situation.
The original Idea for SWG was that ranged weapons users would have the advantage at a distance and melee would only have the advantage at close quarters. It was a great Idea and worked awesome when the game first came out.....
Then came the devs trying to make melee tougher because they were getting beat a lot in open areas WHICH IS EXACTLY HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. But instead of going with what made sense they chose to cave in to whining players who desperately wanted to be uber with a sword or kung fu in a game that was supposed to revolve around guns.
That is just an example of what balancing for PVP can do to a game system. As far as I am concerned EQ2 needs to make a duplicate of the PVE server and just set it so the dark and light races can attack each other and that is good enough for me. You will win sometimes and you will lose sometimes. No need to add some sort of artificial balance.

Will there still be arena style PvP in EQ2 to quench the thirst for blood and battle?
Sorry Helmo
According to staements made by EQ2 developers there will be no PVP whatsoever in the game at release. Not even arenas.

Do not jump all over me. I don't think I attacked his or ANYONE else's right to express an opinion. I simply stated, that *I* would find another game if *I* cared deeply about PVP. I say this ONLY because Sony does not seem to be focusing alot of effort into PVP at this point in time. What is so wrong with that?
I Have a right to assert that in my experiences in MMOG's, PVP was the cause of so much anger from players being unbalanced and dev's had to constant worry about that more than fixing other problems that should have taken higher priority. I agree with Effect!
All I am saying, is you cannot be everything to everyone.
You need to read my post again seakelp....
Was that your name I mentioned?
I believe I made it clear that I was addressing vineyard.

Hmm, sorry I read it twice, and now I still guess that is not clear to me. regardless, I apologize for the misunderstanding.
There will be ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, REI, A COMPLETE ABSENCE OF PvP OF ANY FORM at launch.
Move along, there's nothing to see here....

Here's the clue that should reveal the fact that he was addressing Vineyard...
It's there if you look closely
doh!
Well, if all classes can solo equally well, as they claim, then they should all have equal merit in PvP. It just depends on tactics. How well you use your strengths. So balancing should not be an issue. Well, maybe a little tweaking, but not much. If some classes can just rip others apart under ALL circumstances, then the truth is, they were never balanced, even before PvP.
I am going to play EQ2, I want PvP. If its not at launch, I don't really care. If they make a PvP server, I will move there. If they never make it. I will still play EQ2 and get my PvP kicks from something like Tribes: Vengence. There are always other options.
So enough with the whining for PvP, please. We all know you are unhappy about it, hell, I am a little too. But they(SOE) aren't gonna listen to you here, and probably not anywhere until well after launch if at all. So save up the bitchin so that you can EXPLODE with it once the time is right and they are actually listening.
Once again, its all about tactics.

I can see their reasons for the whole PvP thing...
But does anyone know whether it will be possible to solo EQ2? Or will it be primarily party based?
You can solo in Everquest 2. There are said to be mobs clearly shown to be solo mobs and those that are clearly shown to be group mobs. When grouped, taking on other group mobs, they will act like a real party, same as players do. They tend to be grouped so you'll be taking on several of them at a time. Unlike EQ2 where you needed a party to take on one monster at a time cause it was higher in level. I think taking things on of equal level but more of them, like 5 on 5 is what they are aiming at or something similar. At least that's what I get from the official movies but then again, maybe you can still do the whole group vs. one monster thing. SOE has clearly said that it would be possible to solo all the way up to level 50 if you wanted to do that. But you'd miss a lot of content I believe and won't have access or be able to use a lot of the group based attacks(you get even more chains and heroic attacks while grouped) or group based buffs and spells.
It seems to me like you will want to group in EQ2 instead of feeling that you are forced into it. At least that's what I get from the information. I'm really looking forward to that.
All you have to do to find the answers to these questions is read Moorgards posts in the forums on the official EQII website.
They have done allot to make soloing as fun and possible for each class as they can. They have put in special self buffs and "solo only" type spells for casters to help them solo more efficiently in EQII. Another thing that they said is that you can solo all the way to fifty, you just won't have the uber loot of someone that is grouping and raiding there way to 50.
Also it seems items will be level based or based in ranges. So even if you get high enough in level to go back and get something, doesn't really mean that it will be usefull to you or you might actually get it. So this should be a great way of dealing with the overpowering of lower level characters. So no low or mid level players with uber weapons since they aren't at the level to use or wear the item.
Apparently not. I was replying to the original post in this thread:
I really don't understand what's not crystal clear about this... SoE has only said about five thousand times that PvP is not even on the horizon. That's all I'm saying...
-pooka
Sometimes I just wish SOE would add a PvP server at launch just to shut all the PvP people up and stop all their whining and complaining. They wouldn't even need to balance it. Just put a regular PvE server up and allow them to PvP. Since SOE has made it clear they won't support PvP, they don't have to balance the PvP server. Just put it there to shut them up and make it so they completely ignore feedback from the PvP players, lol. Then they'll all be happy killing each other on the PvP server, right? Wrong! They'd still find reasons to complain and expect SOE to balance the classes and so on for PvP as well.
No amount of complaining is ever going to change the fact that PvP will not be a part of EQ2. I'm glad it won't have PvP since I am more than happy with PvE. I just wish others would accept SOE's decision and move on with their lives.
That is one of the best ideas ive heard in a long time lmao. It would work too , just give em pvp and ignore all there complaints about class balancing etc.
