Gameplay Trailer and Imagination

ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

I have probably watched the trailer around 10 times now and each time my anticipation for the game grows.  I don't care how rough Darkfall might be around the edges at launch because I can imagine where it could go.  I have always been anticipating this game but I did have doubts about it ever coming out.  The trailer shows a lot of the core systems are in and it seems to be pretty solid.

I guess my main point is that regardless of how buggy, or unpolished certain aspects may be I just want the game to come out and for the devs to improve upon it over time like MMORPGS used to do before WoW.  I think the main base of players it would attract would play through any amount of bugs or rough times as long as they saw the potential.  I hope the devs don't try to gold plate it, and they let us shape the game as it grows.

I can't wait to login to Darkfall.  I really believe I will be able to at some point in the near future and damn will that be nice.

I feel ya man... all the way...  A patch every month should make this game golden in the first year guaranteed...  My philosophy for a good MMO is:  If im going to dedicate my time to another MMO, I want it to have endless possibilities and unrestrictions...  Games today are all about replayability.. if you copy another game and add a few features here and there, youll find that it will get old fairly fast.. but in DF's case my mind expands to so many different aspects.. I can see hours and hours of gameplay just trying to get on my feet when i first start off... And when you have a tough day and have to log off, taht anticipation builds up and you cant wait to get back home to play again and beat the challenges of an endless challenging game.  cant wait to press that login button and see that loading screen DF

Yep, you certainly need a lot of imagination to equate what we've seen of Darkfall so far and the great claims for it. Good topic title!

    I hear you, brother.

This is exactly what I feel about the game as well.

I think many feel like that. ...

Games used to be developed over time before World of B.S. And great things came out of that.. More games established themselves and players had titles to chose from. It also allowed for more diverse development studios to create niche games.

I don't know any MMORPGs that have managed to stick since World of B.S came out.

Darkfall feels like such an amazing game. I will support it through hard times. It is truly unique.

The whole history of the developers and the game is very unique. This title is special.

I feel the same way as you do. All these mmos have failed and we only have one more hope left, Darkfall.

mmorpg's flop faster then mcdonalds cheese burgers these days.

I just want the time when players mattered more than the pixels in MMOs to come back.

Aye i agree with you fully.

Darkfall community wont abandon the only game in development worth playing that easily.

We will stick to it even if it's a bugfeast.

There just isnt any other option arround.

That's exactly how I feel about DF really.

I won't mind one bit if has rough edges as long as it's stable and the majority of the features that are listed on the website are functional.

If it has no rough edges and all the features then I will be over the moon with it.

My only concern right now is getting beta started. That should give Aventurine some more credibility. If we make it to beta and Aventurine is truly the real-deal, then I say Aventurine doesn't seem the type to launch an unfinished game, and I'm not too worried about a majorly bugged launch.

Been waiting for a few years (nothing compared to some), and this last month has me foaming at the mouth for more updates!

I have always just been trying to not think about or anticipate Darkfall too much or it would be like a month long(or year long) Christmas Eve when you were a kid and you know that there is a Playstation 3, or 2, or Sega Dreamcast underneath the tree.

This is one game, out of all of the MMO's that have come out in the last 5 years, that I would actually pay to help test and put up with a buggy launch.  I know this company doesn't have billions of dollars to squander and will need understanding customers.

I try not to think about the video too much, or about DFO. I assume it will be like the video, which presents a game completely devoid of content except combat. Sounds new and novel to me.

For some reason, "Korea" keeps popping in my head.

i have a strong feeling that beta will open in october, based on what the audiovisual article said. i don't understand how there can still be vapor trolls now, since signing with a publishing company is a HUGE step.

i've been waiting for a couple years for this game as well, i can't believe it's finally almost here!

if that's how you feel, maybe you're following the wrong game... it's a PVP-centric MMO dud, there's going to be combat... it's also clear though from the video and numerous developer journals that there'll be plenty of PVE, crafting, city building and exploring to do, but if you're not excited by all the different kinds of combat, well then i can only suggest hello kitty online.

You must have be blinded during watching the vid.

-Small raids on player cities and player versus player combat are the highlights in this Darkfall clip. An Ork raid on a Human city goes terribly wrong when the inhabitants return.

-Orks and Mahirim take over ships and unite with others to fight against a human coalition fleet. The Alfar crash the party with a 50 cannon Man-of-War ship.

-The inhabitants of a clan city set up coastal defenses trying to repel an attack by sea. Two groups of spell casters clash, and another needs to cut through some monsters to reach their objective.

-Darkfall locations and peaceful pursuits: Crafting, banking, fishing, sailing, trading.

-An Alfar archer snipes some of his own kind. An ork reconnaisance patrol runs into enemies. A guard is surprised by an unexpected attack.

-City building in the final stages of a siege, ground and wall fighting, cavalry charges, ship vs. land targets. City defense and wall destruction, as invaders break through the clan city defenses using Warhulks.

Dunno about what content you enjoy but this is all content for me and one of highest quality because it could be writen by me and my friends and we make it live.

They have plenty of planned content, and the video showed a lot of it.  It is just a matter of getting a large beta started and beginning to iron out the kinks and flesh out those features.

Any "centric" MMO will be at best a niche game, and at worst fail.

(And if you only like all the kinds of combat, then I can only suggest psychopaths annoymous online.)

if you weren't secretly expecting so much more from darkfall than you are leading us to believe you see, you wouldn't waste your time on the DF forums tbh. unless you have issues upstairs

I hope it won't be just a game for people to run around and kill each other. I believe it will be just a game for people to run around and kill each other. (Dammit! Now the secret is out!) There's already plenty of sandbox multiplayer shooters to choose from. Seems to me, everyone is hopping up and down over one or two relatively small "rule" changes, like full loot.

Personally, I'd like to see a MMORPG that allows the player to choose what to do, whether it's quest, merchant, combat, gather, craft, build, or some other trade skill. Notice how combat is just one item in the list?

Adventurine claims to have spent as much time on questing and the crafting system as on combat (shame those are the only three things they've given attention, but oh well.)  So given the video, their claims, an unhealthy dose of imagination... and there's a great game in there somewhere.

imho I think DF will have a short beta since they have done a closed beta with another company to work on all the bugs and glitches... I think that we will see alot of progress in october. I think you'll see beta in october then going gold then release in november :) but thats just my opinion.

  • OrthedosOrthedos Member Posts: 1,771

    5 days to October

    36 days to November

97 days left in the year

It won't be long till we know what we can have from DF.  The verdict will be out in 97 days.  Either we see something solid (we =/= another unknown friendly player invited to see it), or we are given another excuse and another date to wait for.

As for the beta sign up, its not very encouraging.  They did that years ago.  Until a semi-public beta comes up, I am just watching this like a novel, with no compulsion nor need to believe it is coming.
