Been waiting for this for a while. Always wanted to try Vanguard but my computer is old now and cash flow is low.
Finished the Trial with Dread Knight, putting certain things aside(like graphics, gameplay, UI, etc) I did have a couple problems.
The biggest complaint I had with the Trial are the dungeons. Im not complaining that they aren't instanced or whatever it's that the enemies in them respawn in like a minute or 2. I dont mind fighting my way down or back a dungeon but I do mind when I clear a room, talk to a quest NPC and then the room I just cleared is already respawning.
Another problem I had with the dungeons is when enemies kill someone they aggro on to anyone thats close. Several I died because someone was fighting enemy, enemies respawned on top of him, killed him, then the mob swarmed on to me.
The pegasus flying mount was also the most non-intuitive mount I have ever ridden in an MMO. I thought it would be like other MMOs where you just Jump to go into the air and start flying. Oh no. I had to move the camera up while moving(which meant I couldnt see anything) to start flying.
Walking down hills was odd too.
Well, over all, I liked it. But I had to turn the graphics down almost all the way. I plan on getting a new computer by the end of the year and when I do I will subscribe to Vanguard.

The fast respawns are part of the design of a non-instanced dungeon so multiple groups can all find something to kill. The problem is if you play during a non-primetime hour, the dungeon may be underpopulated with players.

This is actually the one thing that makes the most sense to me out of any game I've ever played. Realistically, having mobs attack anyone and anything they see who has invaded their space seems the way games should have been designed. What kind of boss mob (for example) is going to run past your group back to his throne room so he can stand on his pre-determined spawn location and reset? Mobs resetting is one of my pet peeves in MMOs because it makes the game not feel real to me.

Walking down hills was odd too. I'm not sure how...?

Thats how Vanguard is. Its only fair to not show anything that isnt in the game like instanced dungeons. Vanguards isnt about rushing. If you go down deep into a dungeon you will have to fight your way back. The only difference in the trial is, that players have no call ability. In game you can call out and some classes are able to evacuate.

True. The game is quite oldschool. It requires the ancient knowledge of dungeon clawling and safe spots. You are responsible for your actions. If you train two dozend mobs into a town you wont have many friends on the server In group dungeons you need knowledge when to avoid other groups and when to cooperate.

Huh ? It works exactly like swiming. Vanguard allows to change altitude. It has a real Z axis and 100% freedom in movement while flying. If you want to land in a 5dot fortress you can :P How would you gain altitude without moving the mouse ? Its the same as if you want to swim from the oceans ground up to the surface.

Does anyone by any chance have a link to a torrent or something of the trial isle? By that I mean the full file. The downloader from the Station site doesn't work and I REALLY want to give the game a try. So frustrating...

Thanks for placing the link here.
MESSAGE TO NEW PLAYERS: give Vanguard PvP a shot (SERVER SARTOK). The server is a bit quiet but can be a lot of fun if you meet the right people.
Vanguard is mainly a PvE game but the PvP can be a lot of fun also.
I would be happy to help any new players. Send me a private message on this forum of send me a tell in game (send tells to Sese, Sesese, or Ume)
