"Do devastating hurricanes need help from affirmative action?
A member of Congress apparently thinks so, and is demanding the storms be given names that sound "black."
The congressional newspaper the Hill reported this week that Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, feels that the current names are too "lily white," and is seeking to have better representation for names reflecting African-Americans and other ethnic groups.

"All racial groups should be represented," Lee said, according to the Hill. She hoped federal weather officials "would try to be inclusive of African-American names."
A sampling of popular names that could be used include Keisha, Jamal and Deshawn, according to the paper. "
Rep. Jackson blames the high death toll during Hurrican Katrina on the issue that the name was too "white" and many black people did not comprehend the power of the storm.

"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

If we have to start naming storms after blacks then I want a White Entertainment Channel(WET). While we're at it I also want a white history month. White people music/movie award shows ect.
Congress people sometimes are drinking way to much cough syrup. Black hurricane names? I would find it offensive if a Hurricane Shakesha hit me or how about a Shakwanda or Quafonda. I really would crap my pants if there was a Hurricane Snoop Dog.
Who let you in the VIP section?
What will they say when a hurrican reflecting their heritage kills thousands of people?
"It's terrible that the hurrican killed all those people but thankfully they can associate their devastating loss with our cultural heritage?"
Wow...I mean wow...
"The liberties and resulting economic prosperity that YOU take for granted were granted by those "dead guys"
This news is about a year old, or is she still fighting for this?
OK, when you hear "Ike" do you think of:
A. Tina's ex?
B. Five star general?
The agency that puts out the hurricane names every year tries very hard to give the names an "international" sort of flavor. This might reflect the wide number of languages spoken in the Caribbean basin.
The Congresswoman should probably spend less time on hurricane names and more time thinking about ways to restrain the "Masters of the Universe" in the bailout package.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Now that's a major racist statement.
It's just as some white congress person saying "Hey, let's name the hurricane Lebron. Then people would have left because all the white people would realize the hurricane would either kill them or rob them of all of their stuff".
Come on.
How do total nutcases like Ron Paul get elected?
Luckily there aren't enough people like you to prevent actual good leaders from getting voted into office.

She's still fighting for it. She brought it up in 2003 and 2005 and she brought it to the House's attention again this week.
