open rvr vs core

Hi all,

Can someone shed some light on what the differences are? A detailed description would be good. I know the basic difference, but not the major differences.

core still has pvp zones on every map. rvr is pvp everywhere. I wouldn't compare pve WoW to core as there is still pvp on every map. Also the main difference, for me at least, is the ability to jump to a scenario whilst questing and then jump right back to the quest.

Open RvR is an alternative server type where you're able to attack enemy players in their PvE safe zones, instead of only being able to attack them in the areas designed for PvP (and scenarios of course). In addition you can go back to one tier lower than yourself and gank the lowbies there on Open RvR without being a chicken. However this comes at a cost - you cannot visit zones more than 1 tier lower than you, even PvE zones, without becoming a chicken. There's also no bolster buff, so you can easily be dominated by even higher level people in the same tier, let alone people in the next tier.

Core is focused RvR (players wanting to PvP are funnelled into the areas where PvP is meaningful in the RvR conflict) on even ground. Open RvR lets players that desire it circumvent these restrictions, making the PvE areas more dangerous and focusing making level differences a very important factor in PvP conflict.

I've chosen Core as I want skill to mean as much as possible, and Core makes level differences a much smaller part of the equation. In addition, I love meaningful PvP and intend to level through it, and I don't really want to search for people in the PvE areas anyway. To get this I'm willing to sacrifice some freedom in regards to where I PvP, and to miss out on an extra danger element in the PvE zones. Others don't want to lose out on that sort of freedom, and is willing to lose the perks of Core servers to get it. Pick the server choice that's right for you.

The chicken debuff is designed to make PvP viable for low-level characters, without having to worry about having their guild soloed by a high-level character. On Core you are chickened if you go into the PvP area of a lower-tier zone. So a rank 40 player can freely go into the tier 1 PvE areas with no problems, but will become a one-shottable chicken if he enters the PvP area. On Open RvR, the entire zone, not just the PvP area, is PvP-enabled. So if you are rank 40 and go to tier 1 or 2, you'll become a chicken even if you enter the PvE area. While you can technically go to the zones, you wont' be able to accomplish anything there. You can however go to tier 3 and destroy groups of lowbies while they're questing, or possibly solo a keep.

Go core, open RvR is a let down.

I was around lvl 9 with a few dwarfs at lvl 11/12 and a lvl 20+ DoK was just beating on us. It was funny though cause he started laughing since we couldnt kill him so the dwarfs (dont know what ability it was) threw him off the mountain.  He almost died :(  but as he ran back we were all shooting him and laughing, then as soon as he got up to us 10 seconds latter he goes flying again.

RvR wouldnt be so bad if high lvl players still got chickend (well the requirment to be chicken was lowered).

    Scenarios are popular though :p
