Black sheep, rotten egg, pigs arse. All fitting terms.

This used to a be a great place, but nowadays it's full of teenage angst and moderators with grudges. I'm only still around out of morbid curiosity.

I use WHA a lot and unlike here, I can almost always find the information I'm looking for. The search funcion in vBulletin works, unlike here.

I second that, you say one displeasing thing about a game and 50 roaches jump you..

Still, if used properly, a black sheep can have an essential purpose.

I don't trust official forums (just look at Funcom), but at the same time I'm wary of those forums which are created strictly to be the cheerleader of one particular game (Warhammer Alliance looks just like that).

As for these forums, well, depending on which game you're writing about, they can be either civil or unruly.  I've never had a problem with the Pirates of the Burning Sea section -- mature discussion, reasoned arguments, very little bile (perhaps because of disinterest, but still...), and even less meaningless troll/fanboi/spam posts.

The Age of Conan section here was a major step down, especially when that Failcom avatar started appearing everywhere.  That game-specific forum was insufferable and I don't spend time there anymore (well, I suspect my not playing that game anymore might be more to blame).

Warhammer's forums, to be honest, don't look that bad, but after seeing the game, I still feel I was suckered by the fanbois here who would only swear by it. But we'll see what happens when the honeymoon is over for some of them.

This forum is quite good for cross-game discussion, otherwise rather worthless.

As for WAR official forums, i wonder why they do not have full featured site like WoW with all the PR control that brings. Then again it would not be the only puzzling yet bold decision they made. Fan-based game specific forums use to be the best source of in-depth game related information.

Most game's official forums are best to talk about the actuall game. The are moderated, yes the troll threads most likely get removed, but if you want to look at what a forum will consist of without such steps, just look here.  Hardly any discussion about the actual game more threads that are nothing more than marketing/counter marketing.

The recent weeks leading up to and after release of warhammer have really shown me how worthless foums like these are.

90% of the threads are flame threads and most offer nitpicking over non-issues with the games as facts as to why warhammer sucks.  Most  of these threads are posted by people who have never played, or have played such a limited time that they cannot possibly know what the game is actually like.

Anyone who bases a decision on to play o not to play for any game on the opinions of random people on forums like this are most likely going to end up hating every game this genere releases.

I have never seen a community for any game try so hard to commit suicide and try to stomp out the industry.

I miss the old days where games where generally well recieved, even if they were far from perfect, and most comprehensive "reviews" where written by people who have at least seen and experienced a majority of the content a game has to offer.

So yeah, unofficial forums are absolute trash, the only puropuse the are currently serving is for fans of another game to come and try to scare away as many players as posible, while players who like the game fight it out to counter it.

So far ive seen nothing useful or productive come out if the warhammer forum on this site, all ive seen is fans from another game try to piss off the community who likes the game.  Way too many 12-15 year olds running around like they are professional gamers giving honest reviews, with little or no experience in the game they review.

Ive really lost a lot of respect for the unofficial forums here and for the community as a whole.
