What Race Is Ranged ?

krityckrityc Member UncommonPosts: 175

I don't see any classes that focus on using bows/guns. I'm guessing they intend for ranged weapons to be used more as a secondary pulling mechanisim, but I find it odd that no class focuses on using ranged weapons with skills that complement that.

I may be overlooking something if so tell me, but I was thinking dwarven gunmen would be neat only to notice it would have to be in hybrid form of rouge or warrior.

Tru, but I wonder if it's viable with no pet focus. Not that I'm against pets but most games have a class that is mainly ranged. It's more or less the alternative to mage but with ranged weapons, and then there are pet classes that have a weaker version of the ranged skills ....etc.

    Ahh well no biggy

I actually quite like the way blizzard has implemented the 'ranger' into WoW. It makes for a good change rather than just having the usual ranger who has to sit on hills and snipe, or keep hitting and running shit OR in those overpowered games, can kill the monster before it even gets to you

It also adds another fun aspect for the ranger which is picking your own pet :)

I played a hunter in WoW Stress Test Beta. All races can use bows/guns equally (however paladins cant use bows, and one other class as well)

Hunters are the ONLY class that can start the game using bows. They're an intergral part of the hunters abilities. From arcane shot to concussion shot, keeping your opponent at range is always sure thing. You even get an "spirit of the eagle" (No, thats not a levitation spell for those of us that played EQ) That grants you additional accuracy with your bow.

Is it possible to play Hunter without their pet? Yes. But it takes away half the charm. WoW doesn't have a complex pet command system like everquest, but its convenient and simple. I find it a better system than galaxies. Even without a pet, a hunter properly equipped can duel with a warrior and win (so long as your bow  finger is quick)

Hunters are not all ranged either. You can start with the ability to use axes (which I decided not to focus on) but rather early on in the game you can advance to two-handed blades (which are QUITE powerful. I found myself not wanting to give up my two handed sword for dual wield) and you get dual wield at level 20 (arguably weaker than 2hs when you can have a shield)

If you like ranged combat, hunter is the class for you. But mind you, without your pet, your not utilizing a vital tool for the game. ranged combat lasts for all of a few seconds, and the rest msut be won out in melee prowess (unless you have a pet or a group)

I do think NE should have bonuses to bows while dwarves has bonuses to Guns however.... if anything to encourage the races proper using what is approperate as far as range weapons go.

Hunters focus on ranged combat, not only, but they get many ranged combat abilities and get auto-shot so yse they would be the "ranger" type

Mainly what everyone else has said above.  Hunters = Ranged/Pet class.  They definitely rely on their Pet to solo and have many Range combat styles to help themself and group in ranged combat.  They are meant to be the best pulling class by using traps, tracking, and ranged attacks.  Very diverse class and a fun one to play.

    Hope this helps!
