I already sent them in game feedback,if we get a large number of people expressing their dissatisfaction with the present chat function they will have to do something.do it...now!

when it comes to chat.. even aoc , which had worst chat system ever. had 2 times better
every modern mmo have separate server for chat.. .. wow aoc.. not sure about others as icant prove.. but those 2 had..
i hate laggy chat in this game.. why do i need to wait from 2s to 2 min for text to apear.. why does text gets cut off

i do not see mythics ever fixing it..
Hmm, I have never experienced this problem. The responsiveness of the chat has never really been an issue, its more about all of the spam that can't be filtered out.

Hmm, I have never experienced this problem. The responsiveness of the chat has never really been an issue, its more about all of the spam that can't be filtered out.
maybe its different for usa.. its still sad to have such poor chat at 2008.. chat memory and endless potential is in every chat program.. yet only aoc have offline chat.. and some other korean mmorpgs.. which actually included msn/skype into their game ages ago..

This is just a really poor attempt at defending WoW seeing as Mythic had the same stance on official fourms before WoW even exsisted.

well unless its my server only.. i doubt it.. was same in beta.. and i cant recall when i did play usa beta for short time.. if it was there or not..
but everyone have it.. so far.
Or, and here's a CRAZY WHACKY idea, we could just improve the chat ourselves by actually using it.

Well, I'll ignore the sarcasm, and answer you anyhow.
Because when I do the other 3 people in the channel that covers only my tiny immediate local don't answer. Maybe there arnt actually any others in my tiny immediate locale... who knows?
It's hard to be a community on your own.
They've barely released a patch yet, I'm sure there's a lot of requested fixes in the upcoming patch that they're liking working on.

Well, I guess it's a subjective issue then. I enjoy not having to witness endless banal drivel scrolling up my screen as in WOW. I spend most of my "chatting time" using guild chat, party or WB chat. SP chat is often quiet, but then so can AB or WSG chat except for the "you guys suck" comments.
Given the open group function I rarely have need to spam chat for any reason.
I completely agree the chat system in this game is rediculous. When you play it seems like nobody is logged on at all. There is no chat and I'm sure new people are gonna come in look around and say this game is dead. Not to mention if you want help there is no chat to ask and there are no forums so you are pretty much stuck with petition...
I would like them to add 3 tier wide chat channels.
/defense - for organizing RVR work getting people organized to join a battle in the RVR or do some critical devense. Messages from the system could go in here too for strategic areas under attack.
/auction - for selling something cool when you don't want ot go to the auction house and both putting it up for action.
/help - for newbie chat or quest help or maybe forming a group to take out a lair or some other group objective. Maybe forming a group for a dungeon?
If you don't like the chuck norris thing chat channels can be left.

We are all playing a social game together, so, I for one would welcome world chat. I am not that anal retentive of a person that other people's banal or improper chat get to me. It's just nice to know that people actually like communicating with each other while playing. While there is localized chat, people don't use it. Just a bunch of people running around and nobody saying anything. So, why I do think a universal chat channel might help, gotta wonder why people aren't talking much locally.
Still, a great freaking game. Never thought I'd have fun in a level based MMO again after obsessing over both WoW and Vanguard. But, this game really breathes fresh air into a very stale genre.
The chat system is woefully inadequate. The only chat option is /1 which is only the immediate vacinity. Or about 1 minute or so from where you are.... So you chat in it and you get at best a handful of people. Plus since so few people get it nobody ever responds so you just forget the game even has chat.

I'm still unsure if changing the current chat system would be a good idea.
On a good note you would be able to chat away to people about whatever, even just saying good morning or afternoon.
But on a bad note, I'd rather not see chat continually spammed with things like......

Any of you ever thought that "hey this is a new game they must have a huge list of things to work on including chat!" .... I'm sure this sort of stuff is on the list but CTD's & server stability are going to take priority over polishing the chat system. Honeslty it works to get done what needs to be done with my friends so I could really care less is Joe Bob can't spam the whole area with gold sales and chuck norris jokes while talkinga bout the girl he bagged.
You know what Banth.. How about assuming we prolly all got at least as much experience and knowledge about this genre as you do, until we prove otherwise? It's a new approach, but it might work out for you.

We are talking about a fundamental system of a MMORPG that is broken. When I say broken, I mean it dosent work. As in it needs a fix.
You might choose to be anti-social, hell you can even turn off ALL the chat channels if you want, but why can't you see the bigger picture?
Btw, the picture you paint of chat isnt what I have generally ever experienced, but then I don't play WoW. You know what? Most MMORPG general chats are decent, despite the cliched thinking you are attempting to bring to the table.
If you really hate any other prople daring to type on your screen in that little box, turn it off, but don't pretend that chat isnt an important aspect in a MMORPG.

It has pretty decent spam management, and you can turn off the channel if it annoys you.
Noone is being forced to do anything here. Nothing to lose, and so much to gain.
I agree that chat is the worst part of the otherwise excellent UI. However it is so glaringly inadequate and easy to fix that it would really be crazy if Mythic had no plans on doing something about it.
I have a hunch that the reason for not having global (or at least tier-wide) chat channels is the same as why there is a 20sec timer on mail. These are delicate systems that have to be tested with increasing loads. I'm sure they'll introduce global chat channels and fix the annoying NPC spam further down the line. It's an easy thing to fix and it is obvious that it should be fixed. I don't worry about it at all.
Could be they don't have dedicated chat servers? Who knows? Anyway it is an easy thing to add.. just like changing /1 color from white, the same as NPC spam and doing something about those godawful outline fonts.
