War Reaches 500k Subs in first week.

Yup Its reached the level of success.www.gamespot.com/news/6198222.html

Its lookin good I expect it to reach 1 million or 3 million after people get bored of Wotlk. Unless somthing happens I dont think theres goin to be a decline. Im not a fanboy and im not playing War or any mmo atm this is for pure speculation and analyzation.

    Nah, personally I think it will spike high on sales and then dwindle quite a bit on subs, especially after WotLK arrives.

    It's too much of a one trick pony.

    WAR will probably never reach 1million if it hasn't already.

    Well my guess is, it will raise once WOTLK comes out, when people realize what crap blizzard are launching for an expansion pack.

    Its just gonna be what we allready done, over and over.. Just in a new wrapping..

    But hell, some people like it that way, but who cares how manny subs ... People play what thay enjoy, and everyone is happy.

    It's actually quite trendy to quit one MMO, and trust me, it happens way sooner than expected. It's like a parasite: players are going to one MMO then dies a noob(or mid level, whatever) there then walks to another MMO which seems to be more popular and/or newer than the other.

     

    I'll just say congratulations to WAR, because I think that's a good number.

    It is accounts created.

    Subscriptions numbers will be making real sense after 2-3 months, when people that tried the game finished their free month and then decide if they subscribe or not.

    True. Still the retention I guess will be low, around 50%. WAR is not really an MMORPG it's a game with several scenarios to play and very simplified at that. I don't expect many people willing to pay every month for something they can get for free easily, and probably in a more fun (WAR players love this word) way.

    And there is this big monster WOTLK showing its ugly face already.

    Mythic, for all their confident rhetoric, do not know how to maintain an MMORPG. With WAR, they basically remade their only marginally successful title, a game which is currently dying on the vine from neglect. It is a sad commentary when your great hope for more subscriptions is that people will get bored of something else. Only players looking for a different PVP experience will flock to WAR, just like they did with Age of Conan. Despite what they might believe to the contrary, PVP players do not make up the majority of the MMORPG market. What do you think will happen when they get bored (and they will) with WAR?

    WAR is a niche game and will remain so as long as Mythic continues to operate like it's still 2001 and stubbornly refuse to alter their operating philosophies to accomodate a market that has changed.

    Its massively multiplayer, yes there are zones between tiers but FFXI is zoned as well as EQ2, Its online  and its a RPG. So how can't it be a MMORPG.

    I havent played one free game that compares to WAR, hell not even P2P games that even compare to WAR.

    Quit WoW for this game and im fucking glad, WoW was just so damn boring to me.

    I've already canceled so it's minus one. It's just not fun to me and too much like WoW (which I refuse to go back to). Don't get me wrong. I hope it's a hit - it's just not for me. I hate what WoW has done to MMO's.

    500k sales doesn't suprise me, and I think it will go up as people would of heard its the best launch of any mmorpg, and not another AoC flop.

    I'm glad the trolls don't play, we have a whole country of trolls already, and we can all kill them :D

    Thinking about WOW makes me sick in the stomach. But it's a game I respect because it just pours quality everywhere (except it doesn't have common sense and it's not serious).

    I tend to think about WAR more like an hybrid between WOW and Team Fortress Classic. I'ts not really a world. Yes it's an MMOG, but not what we learned to love as a MMORPG. So I don't know if many people will want to pay for that.

    Yes many cheap MMOGs out there, I don't care about them, WAR is the reference now, so the spotlight is on it.

    I have a feeling that 700k will be the max this game will get, maybe 800k like AoC did. It will probably keep at a constant base of 300k players in a couple of months, at least that is my prediction. Sorry WoW haters, WotLK will probably overshadow this game. WoW's customer base at this point is at least more than three quarters being long time players. They simply like the way WoW is played. If it's anything like what they did with the BC it will overshadow every other PC launch within a month radius, as history repeats itself... not that WAR isn't a good game, it is just stupid to think that WotLK will help WAR... you guys are thinking as if 1.) people who disliked WotLK are going straight to WAR and 2.) that people won't get bored with WAR and move on to WotLK.

    It's kind of a bad time and a good time to launch at this period. They probably would have been better off if they waited until Christmas if you ask me... they could easily have made 1 mil subs going that route, especially with a couple more months of bug fixing that they'd get from it(although the game is pretty damn polished as far as launches go). Hell, maybe we'd still have the 4 missing classes and 4 cities. I personally would have liked to see that.

    Uh you couldn't be more wrong.  WAR is not a one trick pony it is like a 5 trick pony.  In fact the game is not that great if you only do one thing exclusively unless you just love RvR.  Its very good when you take advantage of everything.

     

    Some of the public quests are very cool.  The one with the bringer of change boss is pretty sweet.  But too many PQs gets grindy.  Keep sieges are very fun, but after doing hours worth of them you need a break.  It is the fact that you can swap out between a cool PQ to instant scenario action to serious rvr action to laid back quests that really make the game.  take any of those in isolation and it gets old fast.  Take them together and it lasts quite a long time.

     

    Whether your prediction is right or wrong i am not sure.  I doubt it, but I have no idea.  However you are certainly wrong in your evaluation of the game itself.  Couldn't be more wrong really.

    I don't think it will be much of a problem for this game. I realize that this company was the makers of DAoC, which was a semi-successful MMO sort of like CoX with a medium playerbase, and it functioned similarly to WAR with RvR and had three factions to deal with.

    Considering that game didn't really die out, I assume they did something to control balance between factions (as I'm sure history had repeated itself in that game as in this game). I would think that they have some experience in how to deal with the balance issues, we'll just have to see how it goes.

    He is correct, but for the wrong reasons... the game has about two months max, in my opinion.

    They have a third faction within the game which tends to be a balancing mechanic.  I really feel for Mythic, but its something that they thrust upon themselves.  Did they need to hype the destruction side so desperately with their marketing?  geez....

    I have no idea what you are talking about.  How is WAR any less of a "world" than WoW?  In some ways it is more of a "world" in other ways not.  Its about equal.

     

    And frankly EQ1 is a crappy world sim.   Eve is ten times the world sim EQ1 ever was.  Games with content like EQ1 shouldn't even be trying to be world sims.  That content model is completely inappropriate and that is why EQ1 had so many problems.

     

    Just because something is not trying to be a true world sim does not mean its cheap.  Many things should not be world sims.  The real world is a big pain in the ass.

    I do not think it will happen with WoTLK,  I know alot of PvPers that are not happy about the idea of PVP armor or weapontry tied to both Regular PvP and the Arena.  Now this might now happen before launch, but the idea of it happening have friends of mine going back to Starwars Galaxies and Sony (Faint). I for one will not go back to wow now, I have experienced the WAR pvp set and their is no going back.

    I am not convinced that population balance is the killer some people think it is.  To be sure it can be problematic.  But a killer I am not sure.  And i play order on a very much out of balance server.

    No question they can mount instant zergs and they push keeps often and we have to plan and coordienate guilds.  But you can defened a keep if you are alert and have a decent number of people.  Don't need tons to defend a keep really.

     

    Also the people who play on the zerg side tend to really suck because they just 6 on 1 everything.  When its equal number we destroy them they do just stupid run head long into stuff bonehead stuff.

    The fact that the Destruction (zerg) side has about 1.5 :1 or 2:1 population in guild membership indicates that they do have extremely competent players.   Relying on the skill of one side to make up for a lack of population will not save this game.  Destruction players are VERY good players.  I have played against alot of them, and I know.

    Sure there are good destro guilds.  Whether there are more is hard to say.  But those guild population figures say nothing about how many good destro guilds there are.

     

    There are tons of mass recruited not well organized guilds.  The population in general is 2:1 that the guild figures follow that is no surprise.

    But even if there is 1.5 good destro to every 1 good order guild that is not a death sentence for order.  I dunno if they could get to inevitiable city, but they could certainly have a reasonable chance of stopping destro from getting to altdorf.

     

    Again its problematic, but I do not believe that is necessarily a death sentence to the game.  I do not see why tons of people will suddenly quit if they come to the conculsion that its unlikely they will get to inevitiable city.

     

    If the population of a server is high enough, even if order is out numbered there would be enough people to mount competent keep defenses and harass points.
