whats the difference when a game is on dvd or cd rom? is one faster?

    I believe the read rate of CD-ROMS is higher than DVD-ROMs, however, when you factor in the fact you need to swap out 10 CD's as opposed to 2 DVD's for the install, I think the overall time would be faster on the DVDs.

    so are you saying its faster to install with dvd or play? or both? cuz i noticed the prices are the same for both so...?

    The only real difference is that the game comes on 2 dvds or 10 cds. You have less of a chance of losing 2 dvds then 10 cds. Plus the install would be shorter since you don't have to change that many disc. Its the same game. That's the only difference. The game is just that huge. The game Myst 4 actually comes on 2 dvds as well but there is no cd version though.

    All MMORPGs and most other modern PC games only use the CD to install on to your HD, they do a total install. Some non MMORPGs require the disk to be in the drive to play, but this is just to make sure you own the game, but since MMORPG require a log in you don't even need to do this. Some people still don't have a DVD ROM that is why they offer a CD version, but the DVD version will be a lot simpler to install with 2 discs compared to 10 CDs.

    I can imagine getting the 10 CDs then having to format later only to find out I'm missing CD #7..  I'll be getting the 2 DVDs image

    If you have a DVD drive, it would be insane to get CDs for this game or any others coming out that have a DVD option. image

    If one possessed the means, and the wherewithal ,I would highly suggest the DVD route.

    I love gettin DVD versions ... forget about "Please insert disc x to continue"

    I thought that DVD transfer rates were higher than cd transfer rates cuz im pretty sure that dvd 16x isnt the same speed as cd 16x.  Im not an expert on it though so maybe someone else can clarify.
