I just replacd my AMD athlon 3200 2.0 with a AMD athlon X2 3800.  My computer turned on a ran for a few minutes than froze up.  Then I restarted and got the same problem .   Eventually I get a blue screen that says I have a hardware problem.  Should I reinstall vista or bios?  Also if I have to reinstall bios is there a way I can do it with out burning onto a disk seein that I dont have a cd burner.

Are you sure it is not a cooling problem? Or maybe something about how you installed the new processor? Are you 100% sure your motherboard support the new CPU?

BIOS I can't help you with, sorry.

Most of the Athlons now are based on the Brisbane Core.  If you have an AM2 motherboard over 2 years old, you will need to flash your bios to get it to work.

You will always need to burn BIOS onto a disk since it is a DOS process.  However, the disk is of little concern.  If you have the know how you can put the BIOS on a flash drives, hard drives, 3.55" floppy, or optical disks.  You just need to wipe that drive and reformat it.  Then boot it from the boot menu.  Also you can always ask someone else to burn it for you.

I think you can move that new cpu and turn on the computer ,seeing whether the situation also exist.....if the problem will be not exist, then i can sure your motherboard don't sustain your cpu.....you should change for that....

Sounds to me like it's overheating.

To me it sounds like the heatsink isn't mounted right or that you havn't got enough cooling paste.

Easy to check, if it runs a while when cold but not as long if you try a second time right after it is cooling. Take of the heatsink, check the cooling paste (and you might want to put a bit extra on, and then remount it carefully.

Same thing happened to me once, the heatsink was sitting just a tiny bit wrong.  Good luck.
