NOT having forums impresses me. I HATED the Blizzard forums. is wow the only other mmo you've played? if not... why use that as a comparison, why not list another 20+ mmos... or do those dozens of other MMO forums not support your theory? mmkay... that's nice. strawman much... unless the wow site is getting a literal 10,000,000 new posts a day, or at LEAST 1,000,000 posts from unique users a day, then what exactly is your point? that five people out of 10,000,000 posted something bad and that upset you in a 'bad touch' type of way and you're traumatized?
DAoC didn't have forums, never bothered me. so, you played daoc... fanboi? i'm impressed that you're bringing up daoc and wow as your only examples. very impressed indeed.
You want info, go to the WAR site and hit the herald up. That's all you need. Forums are unneeded and frankly I'm glad Mythic chose to again forgo them. got a listing of half a dozen+ good chosen player created guides? herald going to help with that? have a trustworthy site with interactive technical type help (like you would get on official forums)? the limited info on the warhammeronline.com site is um... limited. is there a place where i can find a listing of all the guilds recruiting in a single location, that lists their url, and all their info and such? should i just accept the random invites that seem to be the only way people recruit? i'm so glad that a couple of people whining is such an inconvenience to someone as privileged as yourself and mark jacobs, that the overwhelming good provided by centralized forums is overshadowed by the hyper-sensitivity expressed by such naysaying? And yes, the damned /ignore not working is annoying, but atleast the gold spammers seem to be gotten rid of quickly. seriously? maybe you're on a very low pop server and so the gold spammers have abandoned it.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
i see it as mythic misraeding what people wanted.. rvr never went mainstream in doac and yet they go rvr in war people want world pvp where what you do makes a difference on the world and not having to grind out 40 boring levels to get to endgame
LOL !! say what ?!?!!? They did not misread me. This is the type of PvP MMO I have been waiting for. Not sure where you got this idea in your head from, but all the PvP players I know IRL love it as well. But, eh, think whatever you need to, so you can sleep better at night. WAR will be decided in how many subs it has, not what people say on message boards.
You didn't mention Asherons Darktide at all nor did you mention DAoC...
Come on if your not going to mention to 2 top dogs when these games first hit the markey but jump to RF online than your credibility goes out the door with me...
Ive decided to cover what type of game everyone wanted before warhammer came out. I remember for a few years everyone was sick and tired of the pve grind games with low quality pvp for endgame. Everyone wanted a good RvR game but none where around, aside from say RF online, which bit the dust right around the time it went f2p (it was slowly enjoying a death before it went free) For the longest time the only games out there where pve grind games, wow clones, if you will. The object was the same and simple, grind your ass off, power level to endgame, grind for the uber gear, then enjoy pvp with everyone else who has the best equips and best builds (where applicable). This really was the only type of game getting released. Im not sure if anyone can remember the calls for a good pvp game, a good rvr game, and a game that lacked the pve grind to endgame followed by a fustrating gear grind. Finally warhammer was on the horizon, a game that promised RvR action without having to pve grind. Then it was released, and what happend? Lots of people start complaining about it lacking the very thing everyone bitched about previous games, a linear pve grind to endgame. In fact people are still playing warhammer like they would play wow, trying to find one thing to grind on, solo killing sprees in scenarios, and a bunch of complains for warhmmers lack of a chatroom atmosphere. i believe that once another new game is released that the actual trolls will move on, those that nitpick over such minute issues and minor bugs, treating them as reasons to avoid war like the plague, but still there will be a community of players who will still complain if the game they are playins doesnt play like wow, and when it does play like wow, will omplain about that. I just wanted to point it all out, that before warhammer, aside from the small sandbox crowd, a majority of the mmo community was begging for a game just like warhammer. Only to turn on it when it comes out, not for providing the grind free, easy RvR enty, and content, but for other non-factors such as bugs (really this has been one of the best releases hands down of a game) So as far as sending a message to developers, you guys are sending the message that all you want is an absolutly perfect release of a game that follows the Everquest stlye of gameplay, just like wow did. Although mabey ive been reading too many posts on this forum, and mabey its just the "i hate everything not wow crowd" is just louder than the happy with warhammer crowd. Mabey thats it, i mean they got some time before their "compete with warhammer" expansion comes out, an i know a huge portion of the wow community is bored to tears. I just cant help but find it ironic that the very game type these people wanted is now under attack. Its like the mmo community is begging developers to not listen to them and just follow what has been done well (everquest type games). but i look at this forums seeing every single thread on here as reasons why they hate warhammer and why warhammer sucks, even why wow is better...its really sad, seems people dont want change, and dont even want what they asked for. your thoughts?
my thoughts?
any gaming company that is too chickenshit and/or cheap to have official forums is garbage. to see that they've produced a decent game is pretty amazing in and of itself.
it's possible to release an mmo without bugs. to expect a company that's not on their first mmo, to release a buggy product is silly. why do they spend months/years and have 10s of thousands of volunteer beta testers?
did no one ever in the beta think to put someone on ignore and then test that ignore actually worked? seriously?
just that baffles me.
there's a plethora of bugs that do exist. this is definitely not a LOTRO release. the lack of a centralized location for updates on what's going on, is at BEST -- very frustrating. idiotic fanboi comments about how everyone should have a crapton of sites bookmarked in order to find information is highly moronic on a good day.
as for the game itself... it's interesting.
i'm amazed at the wow mentality ingame. in rvr and scenarios i hate that no one ever loots the battlefield -- IT'S NOT WOW... THE BODIES HAVE NICE LOOT. or the wow-dancing 'players' that run in circles as my toon auto-follows and i just hit a button and attack them repeatedly while they continue to run in circles and THEY keep putting me out of their cone of attack. i find no end of hilarity in that.
the quest-lines have interesting stories. the kill collectors are nice little bonus xp for incidental npc ganking. There are quite a few PQs. there's no end of ways to get current/updated gear. scenarios are another source of gear, renown and character levels.
bleh, it's easy, no risk pvp that anyone can jump right into starting at the first level.
a little communication from the company, like oooo official forums or something other than random posts on random fansites, would go a long way in soothing bad feelings. but what're you gonna do when you have mark jacobs basically telling everyone that he gives less a crap about his customers than smedley.
soe will never again get money from me because, basically, of their incredibly horrid pr. ea has earth-n-beyond... uo that's never going to get a real 3d gaming client... daoc and now war.... i hear they also have pogo.com... that's one out of half a dozen.
http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsOverview.war there is your link to what they are doing why do they need a forum to post hot fixes and patches. I have never read the forums to most games, unless I was looking for patch notes. All they have done is cut through all the crap I would normally have to fish through to get the important information.
i see it as mythic misraeding what people wanted.. rvr never went mainstream in doac and yet they go rvr in war people want world pvp where what you do makes a difference on the world and not having to grind out 40 boring levels to get to endgame
How do you know RvR is not the mainstream in DAoC. Prove it.
Grind out 40 levels? You can RvR from lvl 1 if you hate PvE. The levelling is so easy, I never bother look at my xp bar. By the time I learn how to use my new spells/skills I already dinged.
The main focus of DAoC WAS its RvR. One of the big complaints was not being able to PvP right away, so they let you get right into the action at level 1 here.
And this is NOT the game everyone wanted. While it is a step in the right direction, it still reeks slightly of WoW mechanics. (which isn't hard, because its based on DAoC, which WoW ripped off quite a bit, along with all the other games before it).
The game people have been waiting for is a game that doesn't guide you, hold your hand, and make sure there is no penalty for screwing up. This is not this game. Original DAoC was more punishing than this. Risk vs reward and a deep world is what people want. Not more WoW easyness.
I do not see how that game your are trying to describe, very vaguely is the game "people" have been waiting. You sound as if its a generally anticipated game. That is grossly misleading. You are anticipating it. This I trust, who else? Nobody knows. No survey no nothing.
If you are trying to suggest a lot of "people" wanting a game, the only proven game are the games with hundreds of thousands of sub. You may not like those games, but there are enough willing to pay for them, and the act of paying is far more persuasive that a passionate bunch of words here.
I do not wait for a game with a specific spec. That, in my eyes, is stupid, as it would seal my own options. I will try to understand and maybe sub to games to try it out. Games that do not keep my attention would automatically lose my sub. I do not feel the need to preach what is good or what I seek, as that is my preference. I play what I feel like currently, and hang around with people I like. After all, games only occupy a few hours of my time a day, at the most, and not everyday.
Really Warhammer is not the ideal game for me......It has some good ideas but overall I see the game as being shallow and not a long term game for me........It follows the pattern that many have the past 4 years and that is an instant gratification easy mode MMO.....I know the game was made more to be fun than to be challenging or a game that will last years........The main problem I see with Warhammer is it is very dependant on a very strong and big community to keep interest in teh scenarios and RVR......As you can see from many of the threads the game does not do well on the lower pop servers......I fear for the long term health of this game as I just dont see people subscribing for more than 4-6 months.....Also I wouldnt say that DAoC was "insanely" popular as its highest sub ever peaked at 250k which was ok for the time but nothing earthshattering......Warhammer really must make solid decisions on the game and I dont see how they can survive without bringing in much better PVE.......Their first expansion may be absolutely critical......
You are right, DAoC is not insanely popular in terms of sub. But the followers at that point of time are enjoying the game with very little grumbles. Much like SWG at its peak. People who played enjoyed it. Actually 250k was a lot, at that time, as internet connection in Asia is still weak, and console games still represent the basic staple of home entertainment.
Don't fear, we are not gods, we can never see the futures. Games are here to entertain people, and since the internet game platform is open, good games will sweep away the bad ones. Just enjoy the games you like and wait for the next batch to come. There will be good ones coming along the way.

I don't know about everyone, but it fills my cup. I have been looking for the fun feeling with games for over a year now and WAR brought it to me.
