After playing Lineage 2 for the past 6 months, and toughing it out through numerous annoyances, I have decided to quit. I am hoping I can stop anyone else from wasting their time or money in this game by offering you a glimpse of how the game works...both pro's and con's.
I would like to start by saying this game has some of the best graphics I've ever seen in an MMORPG. When I initially began playing the game it was in Open Beta. I logged into the world for the first time and about 5 minutes later I walked across a bridge. The bridge made creaking sounds and I knew from that alone that NCSoft had done a good job of paying attention to the details.
Coming from the likes of Everquest, Horizons, and other online games, it took a while to get used to the point and click movement interface. I am still not sure that I like it as much as the keyboard movements, but it suffices in this particular game. Unfortunately, this is where the pro's end, as there's not much else in the game that does it any good.
Lineage 2 has the absolute worst customer service of any MMORPG I have played in the past 6 years. They have an in game petition service, which allows you to report a problem or bug. However, unless the problem is that your character has fallen through the world or is stuck inside a rock and cannot move, then the only response you will ever get from them is to visit their customer support web site and file your complaint there. The webstie, requires that you register yet another account (on top of your game account, and NCPlay account), and then submit your complaint. The site also states that you will be responded to with some sort of an answer within 24 hours. Of the 19 times (yes, I had to do this 19 times....) I had complaints/bugs that were worth the time it took to do this, I received only ONE response...EVER. That response took 6 days....not 24 hours.
The game itself, and NCSoft as well, promotes player scamming. They have recently implemented a EULA into the login process, and they, on numerous occasions, have refused to enforce it in clear cut cases where players rights have been violated. Also, they have stated in several responses to myself and members of the guild I was in, that certain tactics in the game, which very obviously abuse the game play as it was intended, are supported and legal within the game. For instance, if you manage to get one of the insanely rare drops, it is OK for a player to begin repeatedly spamming you with player invites,
which consequently denies your ability to pick the item up off of the ground.
The lack of a block on Chinese IP address has essentially ruined all of the North American
servers. Yet, all North American IP address have been blocked from the Korean servers.
Everywhere you go in the world nowadays, you run into groups of farmers, many of which are
unmanned bots (also against NCSoft's rules, yet they do nothing about it), which will run
around kill stealing and harrassing you until you leave the area. Many of them will kill you on sight for even being near "their mobs". They have ruined the player ecomonies with their 24/7 resource farming bots.
The level grind in this game is horrendous. While there is an upside to the fact that being high level actually means something in this game. It takes a masochist or someone with absolutely nothing else do to in life to be able to play a character to max level within a year (a.k.a. without paying $180 in monthly fees). Smart thinking on their part....but poor idea for retaining players.
The PvP system is also one of the worst I have ever seen. Yes, you can kill other players. However, once you have killed ONE person, the rules become ridiculous pathetic. You have no reasonable ability to defend yourself without worsening the situation, even if you are the one who is attacked. The penalties for killing another player are so severe, it's as if they try to discourage any PvP in the game. It's the most unbalanced system I've yet seen in an online game.
The siege idea is somewhat interesting, although when it comes down to it, it's a pure zerg that requires no skill to accomplish. It requires large numbers of people and high levels...nothing else.
All in all, the game is not worth buying, or even trying out and I highly suggest you save your money for something else.
WoW and EQ2 are just around the corner!!!

1. Welcome to the forums
2. I heard the bot problem was easing up now as NCSoft has been taken care of the problem, did u find this to be true as you just left? I havent been online with Lineage ][ in a couple months now
Thanks.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
This was my first MMORPG. When I first got in, I was lagged to death. After seeing the graphics I was like OMG. This game was marvelous.
GM support is horrid in game.
Although, when you call them, they will help you. My account got hacked, I called NCsoft, and got my account back in 10 minutes.
Bots, they were horrid. Not only the bots, but chinesse people period. Way too many of them. Although, my friend and I bought over 15 million in adena from them.
You have to buy adena if you want to succed. Period. Game is way too hard to farm by yourself.
Grind. That is what made me quit. Simple as that. After Chronical 1, i gave up. They nerfed the bow, made SS take up weight. Pets became useles.. And they DIDN"T introduce C/B grade equipment like they should have.
Tsk tsk, was really a good game, had some fun times.

Hmmm..you seem to have misunderstood a few things.
0. The game offers you BOTH kinds of movement, unlike games like EQ2 that really restrict you...damn its nice to be able to just click somewhere out in the horizon and actually just go there instead of having to hold down movement keys. Also the followmode is great as well.
1. You're supposed to email support, not post on the forum. While yes, in the beginning the GMs made alot of mistakes, I don't really mind, since the game is very new and the new concept of how the game works compared to many previous MMORPGs makes for a long period of getting used to. In these days the support is quite helpful to most people.
2. Scamming is a LEGIT PART OF THE GAME. This is a PvP game, and using ingame things to scam is part of that, it just teaches you to THINK, unlike other games that cuddles you up in soft silk. The only scams that are not allowed are those that involve cheats our out of game things.
3. You got it completely wrong, its a BANNABLE offense to spam party invites or trade invites to people, I have personally had 2 people banned (one temporarily, one permanent) for doing that.
4. American IPs are not blocked from Korean servers, but in Korea there are LAWS which makes it hard for non-koreans to play on their net, this has nothing to do with NCSoft, but korean laws.
Why the heck should the game have a block of chinese IPs?, yeah, they bot, but so does americans and european...you just notice chinese more because you can't communicate with them.
5. Why on earth should you be able to play a character to max level within a year with casual play?, this is a competitive game, its supposed to be tough...but you know what, many people have loads of fun even now with their level 20, 30 or 40's characters. But if you want to compete with the big boys, expect to either play like crazy or have other skills and abilities (RL abilities) that make up for the lack in levels.
6. Oh yes, you can defend yourself, but there are consequences to it...and you know what that does?, it makes good players THINK and lay STRATEGIES...I have personally gone red a few times and killed many griefers...never have I died and lost anything (though I was prepared to do so, that is my CHOICE), because me and my clan were smart about it.
7. Man, you haven't participated indepth in any sieges have you?, there's ALOT of planning going on, and alot of things that need to go right in a siege for it to work, "the zerg" really only works the first time the castle is taken from NPCs, later against other players it becomes very interesting with alliances, mercenaries and tactics...pure brilliance once you get behind the scene.
Hmmm? lol, no you don't need to buy adena to do well in this game. Just play smart and play with people/clans.
And C1 had C AND B grade equipment.

MisBik00 You bring up some good points, however you do it by sounding like a complete whiner in the process.
1. If you are gullable enough to fall for the typically sophmoric scams in l2 you got what you deserved. You have obviously never been in a castle siege. Period enough on that.
3.. whoever said that you have to buy adena, from 3rd party vendors, is out of their mind and obviously new to this whole genre of gaming. Adena is out there, you just need to quest/kill for it.
4. Yeah, duh no kidding there are consequences for killing someone and going red? who woulda guessed? Grow up man, PvP is meant for the arena and sieges, if you wanna run around killing people, fine, but pay the price if you do. Quit crying about it.
5. whoever said that about the Korean laws, is absolutly correct. Americans can not even use Cellular phones over there, let alone be allowed on the net. In case your not up on current events THEY DON"T LIKE US MUCH!
6. Sure alot of Koreans Bot, and so do alot of Canadiens, and Yanks and Brits as well. Alot of time what you call "kill stealing" They call helping you. If you learn to communicate, it makes things alot easier. If not there is almost always some one that can teach you a few phrases.
7. I have a few 40+ chars, and I just re-rolled another char on a new server, and I am having no problems leveling and finding Adena. The botting has dropped considerably.
Bottom line is, don't come back, new people start every day. It's a big game, no one is going to miss you.
Sure WoW and EQ2 will prob be a great fit for alot of reasons, whether you like "carebear" or that it's more condusive to an adult environment, either way I hope you find them better than you did L2.
PS Carebear is NOT an insult IMO.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

I really do like the gameplay and most of the community in L2, but the PvP does suck. It's fun while you're killing ppl, but I find the PvP in ShadowBane to be alot better. If it still had the amount of ppl playing that it used to I'd still be playing it.
L2 definitely has some issues it needs to address. The GM's suck, they don't help at all. The grind is horrendous. I like that it actually takes hard work and dedication to get a good char, but they could knock it down a little. I've been playing since closed beta, but due to being in the Marines my highest char is only at 27, granted I have 3 at about there, but I spend every minute I'm not at the bar or fufilling operational commitments playing, and should have a bit more to show for it.
I'm rambling a bit, but I'm drunk and bored, and forgot what the point of all this was. Except that L2, damn I don't know

Honestly, I can't believe people on here are actually defending this terrible game. I played to level 35 so whoever said they love it and there highest level character is only a 20, just wait. You'll see how crappy it gets. The GM's in this game are absolutely awful. I got stuck on a hill and it took 3 DAYS for them to get me off. The cahrecter custimazation is bad as well. Everyone looks the same. Wow, a whole five races. What a selection. I agree it should be a challenge to level but L2 goes WAY overboard. It become mindnumbingly boring after awhile. Sure, you can survive by not buying adena, and i never bought any, but the grind will definitley make you want to take all the shortcuts you can find. And NCsoft saying the scams are strategy is just laziness on their part imo. There is no way L2 will even hold a candle to Wow and EQ2. I honestly got sick thinking about palying L2 again. I think the game has emotionally scarred me in some way. Please for your own health, NEVER play Lineage 2.

Well said. Everything you said I agree with. L2 is a waste of time.
I agree, all this game has to offer is graphics. I thought the game was awesome in the first couple days. Till devianne kept dropping and the lag was nuts. Also the grind was horrible and all the guilds were allied so there wasnt too much competition between guilds. And you had to be way to high lvl for CS and the lag was outragous. Inflated economy. thats only a few problems with this shitty game.
