High Tier Appearances

Sorry for being so out of touch on WAR.  I tend to ignore all the hype/details until games come out, and then judge them based on evidence at my fingertips.  Anyways...

One corruptive piece of hype that did slap me upside the head was 'higher ranked players looking physically different'.  I remember reading that dwarves would get increasingly elaborate beards and - what I'm mostly interested in - Black Orcs would get physically bigger.

So, did that stay in the game?  Or are we stuck with 1 - 15 different armor designs and dependent upon trophies/dyes to make them stand out?  Cause the idea of a character physically evolving sounded insanely interesting.

It'd be nice if a fantasy MMO could match the character appearance customization of CoX.  While giving you a lot to do.  That's probably the only reason I play WoW...  at the very least, a warrior can wear about 5 bajillion different costumes.  Though I guess stats are better than looking interesting to core gamers.

That's something that they talked about early on in development that got dropped somewhere along the line. Just wasn't a feasable feature.

I have to be hoenst though, I've been pretty happy with my ability to customize my character *shrug* different strokes for different folks I guess.

I also remember this being stated as going into the game,

I play a dwarf and my beard already drags the ground on character creation, so I am going to go out on a limb here and say it is false.

If my beard got any more "elaborate" or long I wouldn't be able to walk with toppling over.

Now one item in the game I did notice that gained better looks as it leveled was the white lion pet. This part of that story was true so far, A level 1 white level and a level 20 white lion look completely different, as the lion actually looks like it has matured over time. armor gets better, hair starts to fill out more. It works as intended and fortold.

Actual players doing this though, I wouldn't think so.

They cut it out due the time constraints and the amount of time such a fluff issue would take to create. They did state that they would attempt to add it at a later date but most likely it will be a back burner issue until an expansion or something of the sort.

However the 4 cut cities and classes WILL be added for free.

That's really good to hear about the white lion, actually.  Cool.

I can't say I'm bothered by character customization.  Just content.  Content and feeling a wee bit hollow.

I really wish people cared more about elaborate customization - or at least large variety in armor styles/appearances.  I won't even begin to touch the beaten-to-oblivion horse of EQ2's armor...  but seriously, its a poor standard that needs to go.  We're investing a lot of time in our characters - I'd rather it not be just a bunch of pointless numbers, statistics, and hollow achievements.

The marauder's arm mutations also change on levels 11/21/31, just like the white lion's pet.

The lion is always different.  His color patterns will change if he dies. I had a cool pattern on one then he died in rvr and i got a plain looking one.

I cried inside :(        He was such a good kitty

Yes, the pets do change colors each time you summon them, but he's talking about the actual whole appearance, rather than just the color/striping. The lion gets armore, larger mane, etc. It looks quite different than the one summoned at lvl 1.

As to customization, they do have some fluff in the game, such as the trophies and such. But the problem is that people won't be able to see them unless they zoom in, which most won't. In the heat of battle, I don't really care what my enemy looks like except that I want him lying down dead.
