WAR is out. WoW expansion coming in 6 weeks. AoC has a new man at the helm. He has given an update on what they're working on.
I see comments along the lines of both "this will turn it around" and "too little, too late". So I wanted to throw up a little poll to see whether people's thoughts and hopes are the same or differ a lot.
The question: is it too late for AoC to become a healthy game? Let us know both what you think (will they go down or manage well?) and what you hope for.

WTF, what s all those complicated sentences.
Anyway, I don t think it is too late for AoC.
Personally I don t like the gameplay, so I won't play it even if it was the most complete and bugless game in the world, but they still have time to fix it for all the people that might be interested.
Its WAY too late for AOC. They launched this game with TINY little areas, instanced at that, with a VERY linear feel to them. They piled on top of this loads of bugs and performance issues. They then took the "MOVE, DELETE, BAN" posts option to deal with the rising negative feedback in the forums. I am pleased to see that treating an overwhelming majority of customers this way DID NOT pay off long term for them.
Some people are like slinkies, they dont really have a purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
I think its a little sad for people who put 'i hope its to late for AoC' because what are they getting from that apart from feeding their inner troll. I do think it is to late but i really hope not as the game looks pretty fun and im thinking of buying it.
Considering the last 3 MMOs i bought failed imo (TR, Lotro, WoW).
LOL... I think the 400000 playing AoC disagree with you. I used to have your condition, then I went to WAR and I got cured. I am playing AoC right now.
Game won't die, but it takes years for a game or company to recover from the bad taste in gamers mouths left by the terrible first 3-4 months.
And I mean terrible, in every aspect FC just did a very very bad job.

Pretty sure that was a carefully trumped number released in Aug covering up to June 30.08. A game with 400k subs isnt researching server merges. Or are you just kidding?

It's too late for the gaming to be a GREAT game, but still can be a good game
- Great music
- Great graphics
- Great quests
- Fun Classes
- No PvP
- No end game
This may very well be true. It may be a GOOD game in 10 months. A great game would require a core overhaul and thats not going to happen.

Sorry can't agree here, this is exactly why I haven't reached endgame yet. I've felt no rush to do so. I get PVP all night long in game (when I play). That's not the problem, the problem comes from the diminishing returns right now, after you kill someone five times you get no more credit from them. With such a small player base on deathwhisper, this happens far to fast. If merges come soon enough it could really help the state of pvp on open ffa servers.
Personally I have fun just PVPing, apparently others don't. They get their five kills and move on or log off. By midnight the server is all but dead, right now I feel that's the biggest issue in game. Point being, PVP is fine in game, populations aren't.

I don't think it is to late. If they can get their issues worked out in short order, they should be fine. I don't think they will enjoy the same subscription base as WOW or WAR, but if its a game you like you don't care about that.
What I really dont understand is all the hate. I played the game during beta and when it went live. I had no problem with the game personally. I didnt play 16 hours a day, but I never had one real issue. Everything worked that I did. Crafting, PVE, quests and basics of the game. I quit playing bacuse it got to repetive for me. But I really think alot of people here are looking for something that they will never find. Each new MMORPG that comes along looks great and is end all beat all. Then at lauch we get tons of posts of how it is the worst game, the company should go bankrupt and the game is a failure. I just dont think that the paradise that most of you seek is coming anytime soon. None of the companies in this market think outside the box. Until a game company comes along that is going to make a MMORPG that takes the genre to another level. This type of posts will go on forever.
I know that I will get some flames for this, but I have played MMORPG's since Everquest was launched. Only a couple of games since then has pushed the genre forward and challenged the rest of the market to innovate.

It's too late for Funcom. Funcom has no chance of surviving as a company.
What happens to AOC is the big question. If they get the pvp system in game, if they get Dx10 in game and if they fix up the current content, then more than likely the game will be taken over by someone when Funcom goes bankrupt. My guess is that the new guy is doing just that. He is making the game stable so he has a job when funcom folds. When Funcom folds, he wants to say " hey look at this game, it's stable and has 75k subscribers" buy it and I can keep it running.
If AOC stabilizes with around 75K subscribers, which is what I think they have now, then it will be worth someone buying. The problem is that Funcom is in so much debt and is a publicly traded company, it simply won't be able to survive with 75k subscribers like a different company could.
Once again, just because you had no issues doesn't mean that no one else did. Here's an example, check out the post I made about this game way back in the day with my issues -

There is no way there is 400k people playing AoC and trying to suggest there is taints anything else you say regarding AoC or War. Thats like 10k players per server and while 4 or 5 of the servers might get 750+ people on primetime the majority get more like 300 tops and some only just breaking triple digits.
Personally I think AoC is going to lose another say 30% of its current playerbase over the next 3 months, after that if improvements come quickly, server merges consolidate to just a few servers and presumeing funcom are able to run with that few subs then I can see the game maintaning that playerbase for a couple of years.
So It's not to late for AoC to survive but it's way to late imo for AoC to ever become successful, I don't think any game has ever managed to bring a substantial ammount of players who left back.
Of course that is assumeing funcom are able to stay afloat with such a small number of subs and I'm not at all convinced of that, we will know alot better when we see the Q3 report though.

You don't have to be pretty sure, it's from their Q2 report which covers up to June. I think that most AoC fanboi's don't know how quarters work, by the way they love to throw around that 400k number. The game would be lucky to have half of that right now. Damn lucky.

I believe the date was debatable, as the presentation and documents stating the 415k number were referring to "today" and dated August 14th or so. While a 2nd quarterly report covers April to June, that number was specifically dated later.
Did I miss a clarification on that matter from Funcom? I'd love to see one, for sure. :-)

Even if it did cover up to the 14th August rather than 30th June that was still 6 weeks ago and it was clearly a misleading number at the time including buddykeys and people who have canceled but still had a little time left. All of the people who paid upfront for 3 months but had stoped playing would have been included.
Their most certainly was not 415k people activly playing the game at that point and 100% guarenteed as you say there isn't that ammount of people activly playing now. I think it's closer to 25% of that number than 50% but they arn't going to annouce sub numbers in the financial report this time and that should speak volumes.
I understand that issues happen. No one pc is configed the same as others. I reviewed your list, somethings you listed I never had issues with. But you did, they need to fix those issues or at least identify what in your case caused them. If they do or don't fix them it is a decision they made. You stopped becoming a customer because they failed to respond in a manner you expected. But I don't think it warrants promoting the demise of a company. If its a game you really wanted to play, then maybe you work through customer server to provide better information on how they can recreate the issue. But that's just my opinion.

No you didnt miss anything. They need to make a statement and then get on their knees and beg people to come back... Better yet - have a web interface with Erling Ellison in Stocks and you can pay to have some machine launch tomatoes at him... that would earn more money I think! HEADSHOT!

Are you really going spam every single thread, with this same reply? Your assumption isn't off base, though I can't say it's the only possibility. Are you simply trying to set yourself up for the inevitable " I told you so" post? Are you baiting arguments from those you know will disagree? Have you simply run out of anything else to say?
Surely you are not implying that people that post negative stuff here and in the AoC forums are going to be silenced by MMORPG or FUNCOM? The game is pretty dog-gone BAD dude. I mean come on...
Ohh yeah people are good to voice their negativity. The problem is that a lot of the time the people with negative comments stopped playing several months ago, so many of their comments are just right out wrong. When a current AoC gamer point out to you that you are wrong, you should perhaps step down and either check it out or just give it a brake. PvP is in the game ,so is Sieges and it works damn well to many (except for those on low pop servers). I play this game for now, and I have to admit that it is much better than what it was even a month ago.
l spent over $1,000.00 dollars on there hype and was not given what they said was in the game. There fore i feel the only recorse is to get my pound of flesh here and will continue to post my opion about these folks

Honestly not much has changed with the game, it's a bit more stable now, there is a few more quests, lower/mid level dungeons are much improved but now it's harder to get a group for them, crafting has been ruined by the gem nerfs, building a city past T3 keep is now pointless, seigeing finally works and pvp xp is in but thats about it. If you got to 70+ and felt there was nothing to do that hasn't changed, at least alot of the one shot pvp has gone but the balance is still completly out of wack.
In fact while the game is slightly better now than at launch the game was more fun back then because of the pops, start a new character now on the vast majority of servers (other than 3 or 4) and you will be playing solo most the way up.
Trying to say you havn't played for 2 months so your opinion doesn't count is wrong, it's still 95% the same game.

Well most Q report contain financial guiding on operating revenue. This stuff is posted in the AoC forum, and revenue guiding for Q3 is 16-20 Mill USD. This is with paying 400000 customers (I have no clue what that means in actively playing customers). If guiding for Q4 is higher, that is good news for pop numbers, if it lower we all know what that means.

Indeed and it will be lower, I'd bet my house that they won't meet their q3 revenue guide and that their q4 revenue guide will be massivly lower than their q3 one, time will tell of course though I assume that despite today(?) being the last day of the quarter it will be 6 weeks till we see the report because it takes a while to compile.

How long can it take to count the 15 fanbois still actively playing this game? 1 2 3... :-)
