I gave in and purchased WAR. IMHO it's a pretty good game, enough to make me cancel my WoW subscription...up until today. I don't know why people complain about the bugs, as they don't really bother me that much. BUT -- to have your character completely disappear? Unacceptable, especially when there are no official forums, when you wait for 45 mins in game on another low pop server to get help, or when the phone number on EA's site apparently doesn't provide WAR Tech Support.
Wow, I really liked this game a lot. Just...wow.

No way, thats the first time I've ever heard anything like that. Call the support number they give you on your WAR client.
Log on to your server and I bet the toon is there. My main doesn't show up under the server til I log in on the server, if I play on another server previous to selecting my main.
Yea it happenned to me on the first day i got the game. I was pretty mad at first, but my toon magicaly reapeared an hour later..
I'm sorry to hear about the experience you've had man. My statements here are not meant to refute your claims. However; my experience with customer support was different.
I had to issue an appeal for assistance on Saturday during peak hours. I thought I would have to wait forever. Instead I had a courteous response inside of 5 minutes. I was really impressed.
For that reason, I have difficulty believing that things are as bad as you claim.

Are you saying you logged into the server and your character was gone..
OR
Did you just look at the server list and not see a server with the "Number of characters" tag?
Cause I have a whole server filled with characters that don't show up on the main server list.. but when I log in to that server.. all my characters are there...
I was working from home today, and after I had played a bit this morning and was ready to play around lunchtime, I noticed my character was simply gone. I didn't understand why it was asking me to select a server again, when it hadn't done it since I first created my toon. Then I figured out the server character count doesn't work, either. Since I didn't remember my server name, I went to each Open RvR server and the character wasn't on any of them.
It's obviously a known problem, because they have a special Appeal for "Missing Character". Gayness, and I can't imagine a bigger game killer than one where people's data is completely corrupted.
Damn, that sucks. I just stay on one server and none of my characters have disappeared.
Yeah and what sucks even more, is I can't figure out how to respond to the CSR that's trying to help me right now. The chat interface is so unintuitive IMO...you'd think their name would be a link and you could just click on it to reply, or /whisper or /tell them or something...
And why they added NPC text to the chat window I have no idea, grr.
OK cool, after trial and error /reply works. Man, they need to really clean up the whole chat/response system IMO.
I ran into this issue this week. I created my character and played on my laptop. When I logged in for my second session I used my son's desktop and low an behold, I couldn't find my character, it wasn't showing up on the character counter (and I couldn't remember the server.)
So I went back to my laptop, and yep, character was still there. So I logged back on the desktop, opened up the server and magically, my character appeared.
Doesn't sound like you had the same issue, and maybe I didn't really identify the root cause which I though was caused by me switching between computers.

I have to admit I'm a bit concerned. Even when my char is restored, I don't want to have to deal with game-breaking situations like this again. Bugs are one thing...data corruption is another. They need some redundancy IMO.
EDIT: Sweet they fixed it.
