Pathetic...................................service
I finally got round to purchasing this game I bought it brand new the 2007 edition (because it was a lot cheaper) I install the game and play online viewer just to get the message invalid registration code
WTF!!!
so I uninstall it and download it of the official website and tried again to no avail. Now it gets serious I go to contact support to find out they close at 5.00pm so FFS!!!
I decide as a final attempt to see if downloading the American playonline version would help but that did jack **** so I'm in a sour mood because I read somewhere else registration servers will down from tomorrow until the 2nd of October FFS!!!
In conclusion the play online viewer sucks and the support sucks because it shuts too early.
Comments
And now I find out I can’t even spell conclusion.
This day really has sucked.
Think about the other way, if you installed successfully then you may still suffered later. No offense.
The combat is locked into a combat scene and if there is other mob joined, the game sometimes and most times were not able to add the additional mob. So after you kill the first mob your character starts to sheath weapon but the other mob still attacking you, so you try to find your mouse pointer everywhere on the screen because the game hijack your mouse pointer on every click. Finally you click attack, but your character needs 1-2 seconds to draw out his weapon, the total time until tou engage the target took you 3-5 seconds. If you are lucky your character may whip once and died.
The health regeration starts after 10 seconds when you start resting then nearly every 5 seconds recover 10 points. Usually, thinking about 30 seconds idle after you killed a mob if the mob.
After you leveled up and you want to have better armor/weapon but you just find out you have to craft the armor and weapon by yourself because the mob really rare to drop armor/weapon but only crafting stuff to support your crafting. So you went to Auction House but there is no Buy Out, you can only bid, you have no idea when will the bid ends because no information. You are on the east side of the city you want to check the west side where you just explore but there is no world map but only the map where your character was.
Finally, you singed up crafting but you don't have any gold because everything are too expensive beside there is inflation in the game. You found out you are living in Tokyo. After you got money to buy crafting stuffs but the shop is closed because their opening time is 9-5, and closed in the weekend as well, and today is Waterday they also closed.
After you were able to craft something for yourself, maybe one year from now, you are way too high level than the crafted item. So you wanna create a new character and it will cost you EURO 12.50 each.
amen
amen
What this got to do with SOE?
Your basing your opinion on the fact support for the game ends at 5? :x
amen
What this got to do with SOE?
sorry, SE, ill fix that lol
When I think of FFXI, I'll think of Sony, thus SOE, jst cut the O out lol :P
That not true... If i remmber good you buy the items if your bid is higher the inital price of the seller.
No World map ?? what are you talking?
You dont have to craft your amor, just buy it. And it will not take one years to craft an amor come on man
12.50 euro each caracter ID ?? This is 1$ each new ID additional. only the first one is 12.50$ but this is the normal price for a montlhy sub.
Geez man you have the right to bash the game i admit this is not the best out there but at least same the truth man dont lie about every thing
For the OP i must to admit the service really suck, by exemple if you subscribe the 30 september they will charge you 2 month the 1 october, (they charge the september at full price even if you had 1 day) because they charge the fees each first of the month. It happen to me and i have send them emails but never got an answer
Anyway the game is not bad, instead i like it a lot but this is not a fast game like WOW. You will not lvl, craft and discover quickly. You need patience to evolve in this game.
When I purchase content ID at first time the price writes off from EURO 12,50 to 0:- It makes me believe it cost EURO 12,50 for one Content ID. However, I have corrected that for 1 EURO.
Not all Auction House offered only BID option in real life, many auction houses selling items with price tag to buy like a shop. Any game I have played before if there is AH then it always able to see:
Item Description Seller's Name Price Expired Time Date Last Bid Price Buy Out Price
It is on one window, not to mention you can search item from level range, for example, you only want to see one hand sword lv 1 - lv10 or type any word to search the entire AH. And, it is always keep you at same window. I have played many F2P also have such type of Auction House.
But you see AH in FFXI as:
Item Description
If you want to see price history then you won't be able to see anything else. If you see price history then you won't be able to see anything else. If you want to bid 5 items then you need pencil and paper to write it down and don't forget write down the item name as well. Because when you start to bid you won't be able to see anything else except + / - and or All to setup your gold amount.
in FFXI, you open one window then the game close the last window, and more terribly was when you click one key, any key or a miss click, the game hijacking your mouse pointer to seomewhere on your screen.
Normally, people place his target price to sell at AH which is equal to Buy Out price which is in other game. Since there is no BO in FFXI so people all setup skyhigh price for people to bid. You have no idea about how long the bidding last.
I am level 10 but I can not afford to bid anything at AH. The mobs did not drop enough gold and the leveling are too fast, it takes 5 kills from lv 1 to 2. After I become higher level then the chance of loot getting less and less nearly zero.
I went to shop at lower level to buy better weapons than my Onion Sword but I can't afford to buy so I grind a little until higher level went back again but the shop stop selling the item anymore. I wondered if there is other shops but there is no one piece city map. If you are on the west side of city you can't see the east side map, vice versa. As a warrior, I wondered if it because my rank (reputation rank) not enough? But why the shop display items earlier? The map marker is good but it's a shame the game only allow you to see the map at your present location one at a time.
I tried to do crafting but the shop always closed, they have limited opening time, and I checked the shop today and yesterday, the NPC still told me it's Watersday (holiday for them).
Is FFXI customer support also use the Game Calendar? It is stupid to go shopping if you are not sure the shop is open or closed, isn't it?
Mentioning about configuration, I have setup in CONFIG not to auto disconnect from the game but it never remember my configuration.
First to make money you need to kniow the market a little, at first i make money with the elemental crystal (fire, water, earth etc). You can get them from mobs (to get them you need to talk a guard near the gate of the city, ask for a signet. The special guard should have a special title by there name...
Now for the craft i will sugest you wait a little longer for that.. The shop have open day like in the real world and like in the real world you can buy only when its open... You should learn how is the time flow in the game:
A Vana'diel day is made of 24 Vana'diel hours, like an earth day, but the entire process takes less than an hour due to its smaller scale (so 1 real hour = 1 day)
A Vana'diel week consists of 8 Vana'diel days, unlike earth, which only has 7. Each day corresponds with an Element, which it is also named for. The first day of the week is Firesday and is followed by Earthsday, Watersday, Windsday, Iceday, Lightningsday, Lightsday, and Darksday.
For your config i dont know i never had prob for that.
FFXI have is weakness, i admit the control can be tricky, the gameplay is slow and more but this is a really good game if you take the time to learn it. This is not for everyone tough you must have patience and dont compare it with F2P game because F2P are easy game where people dont need to think or learn much and you just have to fight mob for eternity to lvl.
Anyway here some site where you can find info:

A few things:
@miscs
Registration server is down for the last few days of the billing cycle. Sorry it is like that every month.
Heaven forbid tech support isn't there 24/7 to answer to your ever command. seriously calm down and make sure your webcam isn't recording when you play:
@Larry2298
You use a mouse? Who uses the mouse for this game? Oh yeah ... it isn't a point and click MMO so it is bad and wrong ... okay ... Helps if you learn what will aggro and link too ... or get some sort of healing spells going on.
OMG! NO BUY OUT! IT ISN'T WOW OMG WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WE CAN'T BUY OUT AND WE CAN'T CLICK ON A MOB WHAT EVER ARE WE GOING TO FREAKING DO! BASH THE GAME IT SUCKS OMG! And newsflash the bid ends when the game tells you that you didn't win it ... which happens about 3 seconds from the time you place the bid to the time it shows up in your chat log. Reading it key ... (i'll admit ... not much of an auction house, probably the wrong name. Public Bazaar would be better ... but if you want to bitch about something that minute then bitch about that not that it doesnt function how you want it to.)
THIS is gonna kill you ... try wrapping your head around this --> Maps: /map for area. /regionmap for world. oh ... wait ... ctrl+m doesn't bring up the map because this ISN'T FREAKING WOW.
Holy S#!+ ... you mean ... shops ... CLOSE? wow you mean you can't just walk up to any shop and buy what you want constantly like other mmos? An there are holidays were the shop is closed as well? :O ... .... you are going to have a heart attack when you realize they have limited inventory as well.
@Silok
When you sign up for a new account on the last few days of the month you do not get charged two months. So you won't get hit for a doubele charge. SE does something that no other MMO does: PRORATE. Say you sign up on September 28. Your 30 day trial will take you to October 28 then for the next three days you get charged a prorated rate. 12.95/31 * 3 = 1.25 ... then they add that to your charge to play in November so you take a hit of 14.20 for one month then you go for 12.95 from then on. Honestly I don't even remember you might get charged the 1.25 on the 28th, I could be wrong about that but you don't get charged a full month.
When they charge me twice month for one it was not a sign up for new account.. I was reactived my account and Yes i was charge 2 month it was not 12.95/31 * 3 = 1.25. They clearly charge me 31.90$ since i have 3 other ID at 1$ each it cost me 15.95$ each month. So sorry but dont say they dont do it yes they do it and im not the only one it happen.
Well I finally got it to work it turns out someone who works at the store I bought from a has stole the key and used it (that what square said) so I have purchased the game again and everything is fine I just need it to finish updating
So I guess my rant is over.
or is it?
Perhaps the rant about not being able to get a refund for a copy of a game I can’t use has just begun. But that is for another time.
I never realized that FFXI is not for PC platform, anyhow, I finally fine tune the camera to nearly acceptable situation, however, the combat ZOOM still sux because the screen is locked and all angles are locked up as well. It's very difficult to see mobs attacking you from behind if you want to switch target. And if you move your character, it is always 90 degree turn.
So a game without AUTO-RUN, without MINI MAP. Are they PATENT of WOW?
Today, I found a very interesting thing. I tried to use BOW, it is another LOL.
To use BOW, you need to click "-" to bring on the menu then select ABILITY from one of 8 different TABS, after ABILITY opened then select RANGE ATTACK, then select your target. SHOOT.
But it is only one shot, if you want to continue the second shot, repeat the above steps. And remember, if you miss click on wrong TAB, the interface will hijacked your mouse pointer to somewhere on your screen, you need to move your mouse to find the pointer but careful because you may lost in the hijacked interface mess brought you to unpredictable situation.
BTW, each arrow cost you 4g to buy, it requires higher skill level for precision. And, most low level mobs per drop is between 5-16 gold.
While you are repeating the steps to use BOW, I am sorry that your target still atacking you.
In combat mode, I also found something buggy or imperfect design, while the Goblin mage casting a spell, my character was not able to move and wait until the mage finishing the cast. It makes the online real time become a TURN game.
Thanks for the tip on how to make money, I have just figured out the way in making money today.
I don't remember finding FFXI so difficult to play back when I started. The controls seem really easy to me and I didn't move in 90 degree angles. FFXI has auto-run, but not a mini-map. There is a macro command for ranged attacks - if I remember correctly, it's "/ra <t>". Some goblins have ways to bind you, where (unless erased) you won't be able to move until you take your next hit.
lol @ larry the euro tard dude stop posting shit in these forums your lack of ability to learn how to operate the very simple controls of this game shows how stupid you are. go back to wow mouse boy, every one of your posts is negative if you didnt like the damn game whyd you buy it you moron.
I'm faulting you for not looking up anything on changing the controls, using hot keys, macros, ect. There is never a need to use he mouse with the game and it has the WASD movement. Here's a tip on when you get a link or aggro. Line up the mobs that are attacking you in front of you, and you'll auto-attack the next mob that ison you.
If you're from WoW, you just went on the opposite of the spectrum. This game isn't on easy mode. Have more of an open mind and get to the good stuff like the story and events. The stuff FF is known for. Making gil is easy too, you just have to be smart about it. Anyway, since you're a newbie, any questions just ask.
@LongGone:
Yeah, acting like that is very encouraging to anyone reading and wanting to play... Just think for a second that they might get an impression about the community from people that play on this forum. I'd ease up rather than bash them for being ignorant. Just a thought.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best.

Just a heads up, SE always shuts down the registration server usually 2 days before the end of the month and 2 days after the start of a month, in order to calculate billing and such. It has always been this way. One of the few things I didn't like about this game was how billing was done. It isn't done like in other mmorpgs where you start your service on like the 15th of a month, next time you're billed is the 15th of next month, instead bills are always calculated and charged at the end of each month.
You completely did not get this game but you sir get a point for making me laugh. Especially with "You found out you are living in Tokyo".
EVE - Sharvala
FFXI - Shazamalicious
Guild Wars - Xavier Lucifer & Charlize the Necro
"Ranged...stuck...tree...15 random words... suck... noob fanboy... I MAKE GUIDE!"
Typically, i agree but you can tell that he obviously had no clue what he was doing as i think anyone who does any kind of research will know he's full of it. However, he's giving me at least 20 laughs when i so needed it so i say let him keep posting. The best is "You find out you're in Tokyo".

Hahahaha. Just wait 'till you want to stop your sub. Thats when the real problems arrive xD. Think I paid a good 3 months extra just because I couldn't stop it. Had to wait for Customer Support to boot it.

Why? Cuz its nostalgic, and the work you put into it makes you come back to remember the good times, So much work is put into it that it makes you enjoy it and feel all that more acomplished when you get something done. I think this game does suck compared to the mmorpgs out there today, In almost every way its a lesser game, However Just like the people who get into the dumb free 2 play korean grind fests, We worked our butts off getting stuff in this game, so now we try to defend it, Ill be honest I cant ever quit FFXI 100% but I can sure as hell find a better game than it if i look for 30 seconds.

Finally, someone speaks truth.
One thing I am agreed with is FFXI better than F2P.
I understand the frustration at not being able to do things you want to do, but wouldn't it have been more productive to come to the forum and ask questions about how to do those things, rather than call them "bugs" and claim that you can't?
There are plenty of people in these threads who would be happy to help you with such things.

That's ridiculous, and it's dishonest to generalize it in a way to make it sound like it will happen to anyone as in "just wait 'til you want to stop your sub". If you failed to stop your service it's because you didn't cancel it properly.
Like some others have done, you probably cancelled your PlayOnline service, but didn't actually cancel the Content ID's your character(s) is/are attached to.
The PlayOnline service is free; you don't need to pay anything to use it. It's the Content ID's for the games (FFXI or Tetramaster, for example) you're charged for.
They *do* tell you that you have to cancel the Content ID if you no longer wish to be billed. Of course most people don't bother reading that stuff... That's not SE's fault (though people love to insist otherwise). They provide the info. They can't force people to read it. At some point the individual has to take responsibility for themselves.
Most people cancel their subs without incident. I've personally never been wrongly billed - not once. I've cancelled and re-subbed numerous times since I first started playing.
Cancel your Content ID's and you will not be billed. Simple as that.
