Nah, Under 0.001% of the server landmass will have active PvP unless you are looking for it the world is just too big. No names no idea what peoples skills are at and average loot of players will mean a lot of people will just want to enjoy the exploration. Half an hour out into the wilderness 1 on 1 it aint going to happen just not worth it.
Warhammer is lame linear and has a very small world size.

Yes, it is not going to be so cluttered that pvp will be everywhere, the world is reletively large, there will be certain places where pvp will take place alot like if some city's are at war but there will be open planes, dungeons etc everywhere. This is very much a pve game as it is pvp where you have the freedom to do as you wish.
Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...
Dakrfall is mainly going to be clan combat and pve. They have a grate new system for pve where the monsters no longer just sit around and wait to be killed. If you dont attack them they grow in number and raid citys neer by and if you camp them they will relocate to a new part of the map.
Roflcopters and lollerskates. When you've played it for a few months you can come back to this thread and explain how a full loot FFA PvP game with no safe zones is PvE friendly.
It has shit loads of pve content its not exactly pve unfriendly. Just because you can be killed doesnt mean you cant pve. Its pve friendly in the respect that it isnt lacking in this area, it has plenty of features and content and its pvp friendly because it has the features to allow you to pvp at will.

Play it for three months then come back. You're giving me theoretical nonsense about a genre of gaming I've been playing for years. I'll pit my experience against your guesswork any day.
Not sure what you are talking about. I used to play on DAOC's Mordred server, and while the rules were clearly FFA PVP (even more so than DF will be) we spent a lot of time doing PVE activities. In fact, the only Dragon raids I ever won was on a PVP server, and that was despite attempts by people trying to disrupt the process.
Now, if you mean, theres no place you'll be able to PvE safely with no chance of being killed, yes, you are correct, there will always be that chance, but that's what makes this sort of game more challenging and fun than a purely pve game.
Oh yeah, about the looting thing, don't worry, I won't be wearing my best gear when I'm out solo pveing, it will be something I can afford to lose (a dozen times over if necessary)
The good stuff...that will be saved for war parties where I'm pretty sure we're gonna own, no fair fights where this is concerned.

Lol its not theoretical nonsense at all its a fact that it has alot of pve content and features. Just because it has pvp doesnt mean its not "pve friendly". Im guessing your idea of what is "pve friendly" requires that no one can kill you if they want to, which is a seperate thing in my opinion.
I would say UO is pve friendly but you can be killed anywhere in that.

Mordred had safe zones. It also wasn't exactly the most populated server. Leaving aside most gamers were thicker skinned than they are now.
Agreed, Mordred had exactly 3 safe zones, the captiol cities, everything else was fair game (except the housing zones, which was a shame)
And Dred's population was more due to the fact that the core DAOC RVR gameplay /rule sets were modified half heartedly and never properly supported. We always felt if Mythic had ever really put some serious effort into making a real PVP server it would have done far better.
Hopefully DFO will realize this dream and we can find out if it would have played in Peoria.

The very large Darkfall map will secure for good PvE, since you wont run into PvP oriented people 24/7.
The described advanced AI will also be more challenging then what we're used to.

Also one of the best RP games available.
You know, I've not discussed this before, but I feel its a bit of an illusion to think that the size of the DF map will provide any sense of protection for a player.
DAOC in its heyday had a pretty large world too, but the trouble was there were certain camps and dungeons that had the best loot or provided the most experience leveling (not a DFO issue I'll grant) so people tended to congregate at those spots, and of course, everyone knew that and made sujre to make regular patrols of said locations.
I remember, I used to go out of my way to find remote spots of less than desireable mobs and yet somehow, the enemy would eventually show up and gank me.
Now maybe DFO's map is on an order of magnitude 10 or 20 times larger than DAOC, and then perhaps this premise will hold true. But if not, don't be surprised at how resourceful some folks will be in terms of finding you at your favorite hunting spots.
And on a related note, DAOC had a great anti-ganking mechanic, if a player was engaged with an NPC mob and someone attacked them, their health would regenerate to full instantly. This gave them a fair chance to either fight or flee the attack. I don't think DFO has anything like this which is unfortunate.

Well true. Been through alot of spawncamping in UO.
I'm not sure that will be a big problem in Darkfall though since once killed the spawn will migrate to a totally different spawning place.
You wont find the same mobs at same place twice as far as i know.
And therefore the good loot will also migrate to different spots. I think this is a good solution for reducing the spawn campers influence over PvE.
And the size of the map will as i see it make some cover for the one's looking mainly for PvE.

There are a few things I can see that may cut down on this.
1) World Size and how limited Fast travel is going to be. It's going to take people awhile to get to some places in DarkFall.
2) Incentives and penalties. In DarkFall there will be a UO style penalty system for killing your race or those friendly to your race while there is no penalty and even a reward for killing enemy races. I think this will at the very least keep a good bit of the ganking to enemy races.
3) No lock on or auto attack. The combat has to be done all manualy as does the targeting. You should be able to get away most of the time.
4) One char per server. Having a steady supply of Alt's allowed people to be Aholes and avoid consewuence's by merely playing on an Alt char. In DarkFall there are no alts on the same server unless you have additional accounts. Some will have multiple accounts but not all.So this will cut down on some of it as well.
All in all there will still be PK's running around, but I don't think it will be nearly as bad as others think and certainly not as bad as previous FFA PvP games.
Darkfall has more focus on pvp and player conflict than other mmorpgs, but it is also a much more "real" world to immerse yourself in, so it will appeal to roleplayers as well as pvp'ers.
For people who are only looking for pve this is probably not the right game.
Just because a game has FFA PvP and supports it does not mean the game has any more focus on PvP then your typical game on the market. They're working hard on having enemies in the game world that are powerful and very interactive, basically fighting a bot in a fps. They might not be as intelligent as a player, but they'll dump spells and I'm sure a lot of us will be killed by the PvE mobs in our first month.
The game is a sandbox, it'll support every play style possible, and without specific server(like most games these days) it'll make sure you get players of all play styles on your server. If you PvE, you'll be able to find a PvE guild. If you're a PK, you'll find a PK guild. Anti-pk? RPer? Crafter? Explorer? Anything you want to do, you'll be able to do it and most likely find some people who want to also. That is the great thing about sandbox games.
I really hate posting about DFO because I get so pumped I could headbutt a brick wall!
On that note, I am a PK/greifer, so if you see....

Adventurine has stated many times that the game will focus on PvP. Statements about the size of the map purported to be true, with the map being at least as large as WoW's (although we won't know until it comes out). However, there's no way to know if there will be any incentive to "live" in the wilderness, or if we we'll even be able to (due to PvE - although, purportedly, we will).
Short answer, we don't know, except that Adventurine has stated it will focus on PvP, and the latest video shows practically nothing but PvP.

Honestly it's focus is on both. It's not a PvP game or a PvE game. It's a Virtual world. Players can fight each other or fight against the intellengent AI NPC's. The focus of one aspect or the other will have to come from the players.
Think of it as a world that allows you to either pvp or pve. If your in the middle of a fight with Mobs a player may come by and attack you. The reverse is true as well , if your in the middle of a PvP fight a mob may come along and attack both of you lol.
It is a Sandbox and it is all about what the individual wants to concentrate on. All forms of gameplay are available.
