World of Warcraft: Guide To Farming on the Sunwell Plateau

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

MMORPG.com World of Warcraft Correspondent Deborah Dietrich writes this guide to getting the most out of farming on the Sunwell Plateau in Blizzard`s World of Warcraft.

Farming on the ole’ Sunwell Plateau with an Ei, Ei Oh

So, you want to make a little gold? You’d like to get some epic gems at bargain prices? You need sunmotes to have a pattern made or to trade in an item, or you are after some of the most epic items currently available within World of Warcraft, items that just happen to be available to any half organized pug? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’ll definitely want to start farmin’ the Sunwell Plateau, McDonald.

You see the spam throughout the day and evening in Trade chat: SWP LFM, or even more likely SWP LF 2 mages. But what are these Sunwell Plateau pick-up groups all about and would you want to join one?

Read the guide here.

Cheers,

I've seen plenty of contention on the WoW forums about whether or not this type of trash mob farming is an exploit.  There have been some blue posts that indicate that Blizzard GMs may consider this to be an offense against the ToS, and that they may begin enforcement against those that engage in this activity.

What I would like to have seen in the article is at least a warning that this type of farming may be frowned upon by those at Blizzard.  An official response from Blizzard regarding their stance on this practice would be nice, as right now there hasn't been anything definitive posted on the subject, only innuendo.  It's this lack of response that keeps me from trying it, as it does sound like a fun time, even without the loot/gold splits.  I'd just hate to log in one day to find that I've been banned for such activity.

You can NOT take advantage of the soft reset. If you are making genuine attemps at the boss it's fine.

"The raid reenters the instance and it is rinse and repeat. You kill this second Sunblade group over and over and over, until it is approximately 15 minutes before the Sunwell Protector respawns. At this time, all the mobs in the group are killed."

If that doesn't sound like an exploit than you are nutzorz.

I never made claims that it was NOT an exploit as described by the author, I simply pointed out the contention in the WoW forums on whether or not it was an actual true exploit of the game and the lack of definitive classification of this behavior by Blizzard.  There have been innuendos and allusions to possible dicipline if Blizzard so decides to include this in its' list of offenses, but nothing concrete telling players not to do this.

I also only pointed out that it would have benefitted the article more had this aspect of the proposed farming of SWP trash been explored.  However, I did neglect to mention that the fact that this behavior could be considered exploiting by Blizzard staff, and could result in disciplinary action if you engage in it, should have been mentioned in the article.  It's irresponsible to give a guide to players that, had they not been aware that there have been concerns brought up by the community over this behavior, engaging in this activity could get them suspended or banned.  In quite a few cases, I'm sure, players may look at this guide and feel they've been given the blessing to actually do this, since it is being posted by a reputable source in the MMO community.
