Loot rolling

I'll just throw this out there.

I've had a few problems with 'ninja' looters, but it's really not that big of a deal. So much decent equipment drops at such high rates that it should be a non-issue.

I play a Shaman and I have so much decent loot that I can't wear it all. PQs, drops from PVP and RVR, world drops, how the hell are you complaining because one guy need rolled something?

I need roll on most things because I can salvage and I want to level my skill up.

However, and this may just be unique to me, I've had people ask me, not yell at me but just ask me, if they could have the item I've won in a roll and I've given it up. A mount is only 15g so there's really no need to hoard money as far as I can see.

Mebbe you can try asking the person if they can give you the item? Or if they'd accept monetary compensation for it?

I've had a LOT more problems in Warhammer with greedy people than I EVER had in any other game.
I feel sorry for ya, and it SUCKS.

Don't forget WoW has had years of 'rooting out evil' in the player communities. Thousands and thousands of bans, not because of ninja looting but even worse stuff. The longer an mmo runs the cleaner it becomes by people reporting scammers / exploiters / harassers, etc, and communities excreting the worst examples of human kind amongst them by voicing their mass disapproval and warning each other for those rotten apples.

With every new MMO launch those folks get a second chance, hence WAR is still relatively full of jackasses like eldanloco who stil have to learn that being an *sshole towards others and generally being egocentric and egoistic tends to put people off and won't get you far in game, ... nor in life, for that matter.

I like better the every one roll for all system, much less drama.  No buttons, no choices... all the group (party) or the battlegroup (warband) members have a change to get everything that drops.  DAoC is like that right now.  Then sell it, gift it away, salvage it, destroy it, etc.  So anything looted can to anyone and no one has to press anything.  So no one is "guilty" if he gets an item he really cant use.

This system does work.  The person that got something that doesnt need can sell it and make a profit and use the money to buy something he did need, for example.  It's economy.

But maybe Mythic wanted the Drama to get high!

Anyone not liking the actual system of rolling, send feedback to Mythic.

Meantime, each of us will have to behave as we think more correct and face the consequences of our actions.

I see you point, but I think you are missing mine.  You shouldn't have to do that, yeah it is great if all you have to do is politely ask for the item; but you should have the option to get that item above people who can't use it or people who plan on salvaging it.

I roll need on everything period. they might as well just automatically roll the loot and give it to whoever wins. I dont have time to stop in the middle of a fight and examine a piece we are rolling on. If everybody just rolls need then nobody can bitch about it being unfair. the lucky roll gets the loot.

Ah, I don't disagree with you at all. I guess I should've made clear that you must work with the mechanics given to you right now in the game.

It would be great if they changed the rolling system, I had terrible times in WoW because of that, lost a chromatic scale or whatever the hell it was called, for my warrior to a priest who vendored it. I just know it was a low drop for some pretty decent gear at the time.

No experience at all with Vanguard, but i'll have to take your guys' word for it that it works better.

EDIT-- Above post.  I find this reply comical BECAUSE, does that actually work?  Caps lock proving a point I mean.  Anyway, the post you quoted is aimed at the child who had nothing to add to the conversation.  I merely use WoW as an insult because it is a popular one at the moment.
I agree with you, the jerks will be there regardless of what you try and do; and a simple loot change will fix a lot of the problems they cause.  Simple.
Ahhh you went back and used colors and underlining while I was typing this...clever girl.

ROFL!  You know....people in my real life (yes, the one OFFline), have always told me that I type and write letters like I talk, that they can actually HEAR me talking when they read my writing, and that is partially because of that whole "caps" thing.  I don't do it to be a smarta$s (smarta$sery comes naturally to me, and doesn't require any changes in typing style).  hehe   I just do it out of the habit of hearing those words more inunciated in my HEAD, and then....they seem to come out of my fingers that way on the keyboard.

I'm an ex-medical secretary and I type every bit as fast as I talk, so a great deal of my typing "style" is simply either good, or in this case BAD...habit.

I apologize for the seeming lack of forum "couth" in doing so. ;O)

Since the loot is BoE they need to implement Auto Loot.  Just like DAoC had.  No rolling, no UI interface at all.  Loot is randomly put in your backpack.  There problem solved.  If you want a piece of loot you ask to buy it off of the person who it went to.  If they offer it for free (which happened all of the time in DAoC) then good for you.

Expecting something is what is wrong with these games.  Expecting that someone would lose out on the money they earned off of that decent item that dropped just because you want it is ridiculous.  It is as bad as DKP.  The whole system of loot in MMOs is ridiculous.

Loot needs to go back to the system Asheron's Call 1 had.  Random generated loot tables and a barter system to get what you need.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

So basically then everyone would cry for an increase in good loot drops, gold farmers would finally start making a profit, and grouping outside of your friends and guild would effectively die off forever killing any last vestiages of chances for a good community.

Communities don't work like they used to in DAoC with the influx of a larger crowd you can't do things this way anymore.

They need to fix the rolling system so greedy bastards can't roll need on items they can't use.

Yes, lets move backwards instead of forward.  This is the kind of thinking that creative designers need to adopt.  Why spend money on something new when there are many versions of older ideas?  I think you are on to something here.

I got tired of people rolling need on stuff they didn't need. So i joined in on it. If i win something i don't need. I just give it to the first person of  the class that uses it i see.

You don't need if its not for your main, thats just greed right there. But I never ran into the problem of people needing items they cant use.

Sadly, most people aren't generous enough to do that.  I also did that with a couple of items that dropped for me just when I was soloing some quests, and the level 10 squig herder that I gave ONE of those chest pieces to, was SO sweet about it and SO happy, that it was a FAR better reward than the lousy 2 silver I would have gotten selling it.

I think some people are just so selfish, that they wouldn't derive any enjoyment out of giving.  How sad is that?  Seriously.  It cost you TWO LOUSY SILVER to bring a smile to someone's face....and it isn't even REAL money, and yet STILL....some people would rather vendor something for a pittance.  It's shameful, really, and probably symptomatic of much of what's wrong in the world today.

    Ugh.

Actually the other day I gave a white lion a green chest piece that I had been holding in my inventory for a few days at the very start of a scenario. He was lvl 7 and the item was lvl 9 req. He was super grateful, and I was glad he needed it. Then literally 2 seconds later a lvl 7 req chest piece dropped for me (although it was a white) so I ran over and handed it to him haha. He sent me a tell and said (Now THAT I can wear) haha.

I agree with what's been said. Why not give it to someone who can use it rather than sell it for a lousy few silver that can be made through scavenging?

Unfortunately everyone tends to roll need and claim it is for their guild. I agree in this heated competitive spirit (even among realm mates) that the best way is to autoloot and it gets put in your backpack ( and if you have no space the next highest roll gets the item).

Looks like I need to get on an RP server then as I'm not fond of some bright wizard taking my armor or greatsword

I love the idea that Need is only for those who match the item.  I most often hit Pass if it is not for my career, not always, but most often.

Yeah, in a game that so heavily revolves around short-duration pickup groups (pqs, scens, rvr) they really should have assumed that many people will invariably be jerks.

Like the OP suggested, a simple "can't click need unless it's for your race/class" would've fixed 99% of the problems.

Yeah, I find myself being skeptical about partying up with non-guildmates. At least my guild is pretty big, so we don't have much of a problem on that.
