"The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands, To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming! On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore."
I REALLY like the artistic style of Darkfall... it's quite different than most of the damn cartoon styles of major mmos.... it's not exactly AoC... but that's ok... since it more han makes up in the gameplay area..
oh and LOL at that WAR orc.... please stay over there kiddies...
The only light sources are the lava and the torches.
But the giant statue and the Orks armor is reflecting bright white light and only white light, not the light from the torches or the larva.
What is the light source for this white light?, was it the flash from the camera?
Any way I like the atmosphere and the art style but the glaring white reflective light on the armor during night time spoils it in my opinion.
Perhaps its moon light?, still just looks wrong in my opinion.
Its going to be rather difficult to hide at night or in dark areas if everyone has glaring white light reflecting of them constantly.
The terrain and the character should be lit by a diffuse warm red/orange glow from the larva and the yellow light of the flickering torches not bright white glaring light during the night.
The “strange effect on his hands” is presumably supposed to be heat haze from the larva.
What does seem strange is that its effect is only applied irregularly to the scene for instance the pole for the chain fence only has it applied to the left side the right side is completely unaffected.
I'm not convinced with the 'heat haze' reason tbh. It would mean there would have to be lava between the observer and the object yet there doesn't appear to be any. Unless there is a general heat haze accross the room. The problem with that is, the armour just next to his hand is extrememly well defined, too well defined tbh and more 'touched up' looking.
The post to the right of the char only seems to have the effect on the left side so perhaps it is an effect, it may not work well but its still a nice detail if this is the case.

It's like imagine going to a movie with your friend and them talking through the whole thing about how ever scene has bad lighting, or how that person's hair is different after a cut. You know those people that annoy the shit out of everyone.
Learn to enjoy life and stop being so damn critical of everything. If you can do it better than go off and do it.

Shit sorry mate I forgot to come on and just say 'OMFGzorz how awsomes!!!!1'.
I had made the mistake of presuming the ss was put up to be discussed,.... you know what with it being a forum and all.
If you dont like critisism (even though its not of you?!) then forums are probably not the best place to spend your time.

There’s something wrong with that screen shot. Its obviously night time. The only light sources are the lava and the torches. But the giant statue and the Orks armor is reflecting bright white light and only white light, not the light from the torches or the larva. It's not night; the sky around Flaming Skull is always dark from the steams and ash coming up the volcano. Seeing as the reflections in that picture are both from the same direction, I'd say the sun is behind the camera.
As I said this “hilariously nit picky” criticism actually potentially has significant game play ramifications.
Did you actually read my post?
If there is bright white glaring reflections on players even during night time or in low light conditions its going to be rather easy to spot people even at long range and make attempting to hide in shadows and dark places rather pointless.
Considering the potential “IM OVER HERE, YES THE BRIGHT WHITE BITS” problem.
This needs to change though. The backpacks are a mess.
You do know there are no item slots in backpacks...right?.....right???
I don't know which backpacks you use but most backpacks have different compartments. Even if this was less so in the middle ages, they still used smaller and bigger pouches to order things. This is just a mess.
Just throwing items over each other is just ridiculous and shows lack of detailed UI development.

sweet! looks nice!
Nice, I was planning on playing an ork, if only they kept their mouths shut.
Might have more feeling to it than orgrimmar in WoW.
At least Aventurine did not decide to remove 2/3s of the game's capital cities like mythic.
That is one nice screenshot.
Amazing athmosphere in that screenie.
why does that one guy in the back look like a giant?! or is it just the perspective it is in.
statue
holy fuck.
the shadows, specular highlights and bump mapping on the armour....
there's even heat haze from the lava, jesus.
hes really shiney in the front considering the lava is right behind him. lights a bit off i think
...indicating there's a light shining on him from behind the camera obviously...
You know, I am following this game since 2003, and it had several graphic re-works.
From the last screes it looks like they updated the graphic again.
It is getting better and better by the day.
Also call me mad, but I do love the orange palette which seems the theme of the game.
I hope they keep it this way, it gives the game an atmosphere dark and surreal.
Keep it up Aventurine.

No there isn't.
There is no bump mapping on that character. and there is no specular lighting on that character.
It's as basic as basic can get.
What is the strange effect on his hands? especially the left. Seems like a ss, art hybrid.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get into the graphics of DF. That SS looks horrible to me, but thats just my opinion...take it with a grain of salt.
I just can't get into the fac that orcs look like bat/human hybrids.
The sleeper awakes...and rides his dirtbike to the mall.
