As long as it's fun to play, the bugs don't matter much. The reason that AoC isn't doing as great as funcom hoped it would do, is not because of bugs.
Bugs or missing features, none of those are reasons why I stopped playing.
I disagree here. I think at least 300000 of those 400000 that left the game over the first 3 months did so due to performance issues and errors. Most people were affected and me myself I also quit playing for that reason. Now I am however back and have no issues at all.
Why did I quit this game? I mean why did everyone else quit this game? This was the better of the 2 MMORPGs FUNCOM why did you let us all down, Age of Conan was the BEST!!! Now so many ppl have quit, I hope this game makes it to the Xbox360.
Out of over a million boxes, there are under 200k people left. They haven't even made a profit yet.
Its not bugs that killed this game. The game killed the game. With well over half the promised features not included, or even on the path to being included, didn't even launch with sieges, and when they finally got in there they were done so poorly no one could run them, and it was a joke due to the limited number of people.
Combat is a joke, gone from 8 directions to a baby number of directions of 3. And there is absolutely no freedom, go down a linear path, locked out of previous areas due to level, and everything is instanced. This is hardly even an MMO
Wow, didn't know I'd get attacked for posting my opinion. Well, I still have AoC on my computer (just for review sakes) and I log on from time to time to see what changes have been made. So far, I'm not impressed at all. For the time being, I'll be staying with WAR...well, for the foreseeable future.
Let the flames begin! *ducks for cover*

Ive been playing WAR for the past week or so and it has utterly failed to grab my attention. This is rare. Usually, for a triple-A game, I get at least a couple weeks of solid entertainment before boredom sets in. For me, WAR has many core problems and honestly, Im not sure why the game is so appealing to so many people. 1. Old School one monster at a time PvE This is the biggest problem. In Age of Conan (and other recent games like Tabula Rasa, Sword of the New World and Hellgate London) many of your attacks are area based. Most of the PvE encounters are you versus a group of monsters. Facing multiple mobs at one time adds so much complexity to the PvE grind. Imagine playing a single player action game where you face an endless stream of solo monsters for hours and hours. Imagine God of War or Grand Theft Auto or Mass Effect with only solo encounters. Youd get utterly bored of the game very quickly. The fun comes from managing groups of monsters, positioning yourself properly, managing your resources and most importantly, FEELING HEROIC. When its you versus a group, you are a hero. When you have just enough power to kill a solo monster, you are just a peon a lowly minion no one special. 2. Public Quests are just another grind At first, PQ seemed like a clever idea. Now that Ive done dozens, Im utterly bored of them. They are all basically the same. Kill a ton of trash mobs, then kill a dozen stronger mobs, then kill some boss mobs. The only difference is that you do it with a random group of people. A grind is a grind is a grind. In order to get the rewards from doing PQs, you have to grind enough to earn influence or work hard enough and be lucky enough to get a reward. That takes grinding time. Im actually starting to think that PQs are a lazy way out for the developers to make content. Compared to making a dungeon, a PQ is just a big open space with endlessly spawning monsters. Add a thin (and pointless) storyline and the developer can move on to the next task. 3. Scenarios are too simple and straightforward I prefer the elven classes (for both Order and Destruction). Ive done Khaines Embrace many times now and Im SICK TO DEATH of it. Two capture points. Two paths back and forth. Thats it. Very little strategy. Very little variation. Ive done the other tier 1 scenarios as well and they are just as simple. I would much rather do Warsong Gulch or Arathi Basin over and over. Both of those are well designed mini-games with quite a lot of variation and strategy. In comparison, the Tier 1 scenarios in WAR are basically zergfests. PvP is fun. Zerging is fun for a while, but it gets stupid and boring very quickly. So basically, most of the PvE combat and a primary form of PvP in WAR is utterly boring to me. No wonder Im not having any fun. Does WAR magically become far more interesting in later tiers? If I grind myself to utter boredom for a few weeks doing stupid quests, stupidier public quests and simple minigames, can I finally get to the meat of the game? Im seriously considering rerolling one of my favorite classes on one of the popular servers in Age of Conan. I can make a Bear Shaman on Cimmeria and have fun killing everyone with the most overpowered PvP class. Of course, endgame content is still severely lacking, but if I take it slow, maybe Funcom (with their new management) will have fixed many of the issues with the game.
The comments make for a good read too
That quote is a great add for WAR - the person you quoted doesnt like WARbecause his character isnt totally overpowered in PvE and unbalanced in PvP.

There a great advertisment for AOC & WAR - He wants to play AOC because PvP is unbalanced, and doesnt like WAR because its balanced and doesnt give him a god complex in PvE.

He's correct - WAR is a game for group play. Its balanced for groups in PvP not 1v1, and plays a lot better as a group in PvE. ie you cant solo a public quest.
That said I can solo (so far) in WAR I just have to be aware there are some things I cant do solo.
Khaine's embrace is my least favourite of the Tier 1 scenarios in WAR.

Actually he believes Bear Shammy is overpowered, its not. It's a versatile class with lots of diff abilities, a proper hybrid. Thats why its perceived as being better.
Apart from that I sourced the thread because I thought it gave a more balanced view than I could give with my whole experience with warhammer.
There is no "Win" group in AoC or side, however, in WAR it looks like Destruction > Order all over the place. There are lots of balance issues with war atm I read on the forums here and at tentonhammer, just like the was with AoC at launch. AoC has 4 months worth of fixes and the general consensus is that the majority of classes is pretty much there in balance. What made it unbalanced is certain gems, which got fixed, however, there are still pulsing gems which can be stacked in a way can heal a lot. Needless to say the classes are not mere mirrors of each other in AoC.

Think you maybe miss informed on this one. A majority of experienced mmo players know there will be bugs and balance issues etc at the start of an MMO.
The reason why most people quit (including all 88 members of my guild) was becuase the *CORE* aspect of the game wasnt there. It does what a lot of different games out there do....but not as well.
Reason why a majority of people quit and are still quitting is because the game was/is boring. Too much was put into making AOC look good than actually implementing fun gameplay.
AoC will end up like AO / Vanguard / swg. Empty or merged servers with a small niche player base, probably not producing enough revenue to allow for the super fixes / expansions the current player base crave.
Im happy that there are still players enjoying the game and I hope Funcom turn things around for you guys. IMO that will not happen.... you can not fix the CORE of a game to sustain the small player base you have left.
Age of Conan is by far the worste mmo I've ever bought. Ive played many many mmo's since the early days of EQ and its a total fail of epic proportions. The only mmo that had a worse release was Dark and Light (now shut down) and it cost less than half of what AoC cost to make. How a company can spend $50,000,000 on a piece of garbage like AoC is beyond me. What did they think people would do after they hit 80? Gather resources for a city that doesnt do anything?
There is so many things wrong with this cow dung they call an mmo, I havent the desire nor the time to list them all.
Now if you wanna play a mmo that is fun, adictive, DONE, few bugs, good pvp, good crafting, low lag, decent graphics, awsome pvp system, etc etc then go play Warhammer. I havent had this much fun in a mmo since the launch of SWG back in 2003.
Dont take my word for it. Look at the population after 2 weeks compared to AoC after 2 weeks. Its not even close which game is better. AoC was screwed from the start. Unbalanced classes that Funcom nerfed and kept nerfing and are still nerfing with every patch. Look at the big picture and you will see that AoC shouldnt even be in the same sentence with Warhammer.
You wanna call me a Warhammer fanboy? Go ahead, but I was also a fan of AoC before and right at release so I just call em like I see em.

Just one question, what are you going to do once you hit 40, retake cities/keeps over and over that basically don't do anything?
I dunno, seems the end game for both is pretty similar, though the journey there is considerably different.

WAR will hit a brick wall 200 mph... Mark my words. Their forum look so bad that I think it even match AoC in the dark ages. Only difference is that people kept saying AoC had a great potential due to it's graphics, animations and gaming engine. I do not really know whats great about WAR beside that RvR where nobody want to be Order..

There are 40 normal lvls in war and 80 pvp levels, so once you hit level 40 there is still months of play in your character continue to level your pvp level through scenarios, open RvR, keeps attacks and city attacks.
Leveling your pvp level has many benefits, you get points to spend each level on stat bonus's or extra tactics, you get more mastery points to spend in your mastery tree (like feats in AoC), you get better gear, title unlocks, more action points (kinda like mana) and more stat bonus's. It will also continue to level up your guild and you can end up with flags and statues in the city if your guild does well enough.
Loads of reasons to continue playing your character once you hit the max pve level completely contrary to AoC.

Becuase it was the worst excuse for a MMO game to ever be released.

You know, not everyone joins the outnumbering side like you . Oh, and WAR doesnt have a forum.
I'm not a fan of this genre, but from friends and people that I know that has played AoC and WAR (as well as Vanguard, LOTRO, WoW, etc.), hasn't really said that many things good about either AoC and WAR compared to WoW. It's like a track meet race, WoW is in 1st place by a mile but AoC & WAR are fighting for 2nd place, nobody's going to reach WoW for a lonnnnnnng time. From my view, just about every game in this genre looks the same with the UI and gameplay like the cast bar and toolbar cooldown animations.

So your argument is you get to level some more? You do realize at some point that will come to an end, then what? Nothing but raiding and static objective taking, by the zergs. Both end games are very similar, you have an option of raiding or pvping, and not much else. That's the case with just about any MMO on the market that's set up as a theme park ride. The only games I can think of that actually had interesting "endgame" choices were UO, SWG and EVE.
Edit- if you can call late game in those endgame, which is a term that started with WOW if I'm not mistaken. Never heard people in EQ, DAOC, SWG or UO using that word.

All games end, the usual EQ cookie cutter ones always end up with you hitting a brickwall, while the older sandboxes the end was always boredom like playing UO for years and doing everything.
Some MMO's bring you there quicker either through content, mechanics and plain appeal.
AoC's content brings you there very quickly, WAR has much more to to, but there will be that brickwall eventually it is a good game but I can't see me playing it longterm.

The thing that makes sandboxes last a bit longer is the social aspects in play. Take SWG for example reaching a full template was really just the beginning there. From there you had numerous things to do, from starting up a competitive crafting business to a lucrative career as a bounty hunter. Much the same in EVE as well. The limit is your own playstyle in those games, not a brickwall as you pointed out in other game types.

rofl , no every1 ) i ll stay till end of servers lifes ) you r childish spore. Lineage 2 , AoC , WoW - and other simillar crap is good for you? rofl.... UO, DAoC and now WAR. you have to improvise all the time becouse enemies arent ussualy PC scripts. this game is not for WoW lovers - like learn few principes , repeat them and rule game. (WoW, AoC -the worst PvP EVER!, planty of others...)
i love WAR becouse its brain challange. in small group on ts or ventrilo you can beat outnubers without serious hurt . (i like it becouse you have to think about how you can help grp members and about how you can smash ASAP current enemy, dont mention about fast selecting targets like: Healers ASAP - focus , dmg dealers/supports , tanks"
yeahhhh i said GROUP becouse... its .... GROUP PVP MMORPG!!!!!! this game is not for solo playing.
join groups, meet frinds, rise your guilds rank, pick up standards , take siege weapons, enjoy like iam enjoying . take theris keeps and cities. almost all enemies ll be real humans. thats challange.

Star Wars Galaxies was by far the best mmo ever made (imo). Just because of the things you listed above. You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. Too bad we will never see another mmo like it. But as far as Warhammer and AoC goes, War is simply a way better game any way you wanna look at it. The two really are uncomparable and I think the population now and over time will prove me right.

War shipped a box with ...omg a game inside it ........can you imagine that? wow.....
How's those server merges working for you?
*Sigh*, want to compare cut out content? Booth the games shipped 6 months to early and cutted out a lot of content. AoC did at least have all it's promised citys in it. And we could look on bugg lists too with known buggs, both games have to many.
And we have very hard to see which of these games that will be the big one in 6 months, While WAR have a bit less whiners than AoC at the time there is still may people quiting it already because just like AoC it ain't wow. I don't really beleive that there is much quality difference between the games eve though WAR had a little better launch (no not that much better because all the trouble with GOA was really a mess and while US had a good launch EU had a mess).
My guess for the best game released 2008? Spellborn.
I am playing AoC BTW because Im more into PvE than PvP, PvP is amusing but not something I want to do all the time. And I like to chat with my fellow players, many don't and thats fine but I do so AoC works better for me. I am not saying WAR sucks but I am saying that it released to early and can anyone honestly say that they don't want those extra citys, more classes and other neat features we read about?

First off..I hope english isnt your first language. If it is then everything you say pretty much has no credibility due to your lack of education.
Now with that out of the way lets look at a few examples you brought up. Cities...Mythic DID NOT release a game with incomplete cities. They told everyone way before release that a few classes and cities were scraped from the game. Mythic lifted the NDA about a month before the official release. Classes were balanced at release.
Now lets take a look AoC. The NDA was never lifted due to the fact that Funcom did not want the general public to know that they released an unfinished game. Wanna talk about DX10 and how the game was supposed to be released with it but we werent told it wasnt gonna be in the game a few days before launch? Lets talk about unbalanced classes. How many nerfs did the classes go through the first 2 weeks of launch? I would say around 10-15. This tells me that they didnt even test the strengths and weaknesses of their classes.
I could go on and on but I really think everyone who has played both games have pretty much decided which game is better.
WAR had a good launch ??? What are you people smoking? There are so many complaints on this game that I can't hardly find usefull information about it anymore (yepp wanted to see if it was any good). WAR players suffer from a serious case of denial... While in fact AoC is doing absolutely great after patch 2.0, WAR is sinking in it's own performance issues as well as this Zerg concept RvR which does not work.
I'd agree, WAR is built with far better groundwork than AOC started out with. I guess it really boils down to what your playstyle is, that's going to be the ultimate deciding factor in this debate. They really are incomparable games.
If you're into the horde aspects of PVP, much like many people were during the pre-cu days of SWG, of course you're going to find war superior. Even back then I was more of a solo PVPer who grouped up with the guild only when necessary. For instance, when the Imperial blob was out and about during prime time .
That's really the only aspect I completely enjoy about AOC, the solo PVP atmosphere. Everything else about the game is far to linear for my personal taste.

Does it matter?
As long as it's fun to play, the bugs don't matter much. The reason that AoC isn't doing as great as funcom hoped it would do, is not because of bugs.
Bugs or missing features, none of those are reasons why I stopped playing.

I disagree here. I think at least 300000 of those 400000 that left the game over the first 3 months did so due to performance issues and errors. Most people were affected and me myself I also quit playing for that reason. Now I am however back and have no issues at all.

Does it matter?

I disagree. I played Horizons. Briefly. Steaming pile of mongoose turds, that one.

AoC's content brings you there very quickly, WAR has much more to to, but there will be that brickwall eventually it is a good game but I can't see me playing it longterm.

rofl , no every1 ) i ll stay till end of servers lifes ) you r childish spore.
