I was able to play that "other" game...

scottnsscottns Member UncommonPosts: 231

And found WoW to be much more fun.... I found the "other" games world very bland despite the graphics differences. Believe me those screen shots you see are carefully picked to look like more. WoW will be much better. And by level 8 I can see the level grind building quickly. I was already getting quests that were way to hard for my level unlike WoW which handed quests out more even to your level. And the quests themselves are not described very well to begin with so I was running around trying to decifer what the hell the wording meant 1/2 the time. ::::37::

nullI assume by your reference of "the other game" you were talking about Scrabble.

I am not sure which one of these 2 games to go with.  From what I have been reading the main difference is the speed and ease of leveling.  For me that is a big turn off about WOW. Luckily there is still time to decide, based on what players say.

Each person will have thier own opinion about which is the best.  Both games cater to different play styles.

Uhm...ok. Their "Open Beta" is just going to be taking that NDA off so everyone can talk about it. Hah hah hah! That's so hilarious.

That's funny - I'm leaning toward WoW over That Other Game for exactly the same reason: speed of play and ease of levelling.  It bugs me that I haven't had time to max out a single character since I quit UO three years ago.  It just goes to show that everyone's got their own preferences when it comes to these games.

I would like a game where it takes some time and effort to max out a character. I want to have some sence of accomplishment when I hit that 60th level. It shouldn't be too easy to get to a high level.

But also, I don't want the game to be too hard to level and you get stuck on level 50 for 3 and a half months, that would be something that would turn me away from the game quickly. Everyone does have different preferences when playing games, and that usually makes for a very good community. Or a very very ugly one.

So I guess it's a toss up of bland and long-lasting or colorful and short-lived. What a choice we have with MMOGs these days!

Well I'm hoping the levelins harder that Blizzard's Diablo II. I;m talking level 99 in a week. I only say that because that's my favorite game ::::28::. Anyways, one thing that does kind of deter me from WoW is the "cartoony" graphics. I was in Lineage II a while back and the graphics were awesome; more realistic if you will. But I'm sure gameplay make up for that.

We all have these speculations on how which game is better. The only real way to find out, is to buy the game when it releases. Screenshots and videos can actually be different from that of real gameplay. That's why I am not understanding the "This game is better" posts. Personally, Age of Empires II pwns all and every game out there can go to hell. Just my opinion. Do I create a thread on it?

I had a long night and not much sleep. I am sorta in a bad mood. Sorry if I offened anyone.::::15::

There's a balance to be had, that's for certain.  I consider myself a "hardcore gamer," but I'm also a husband and father who works 55-hour weeks.  I find that the leveling rate in most MMORPGs is not designed with people like me in mind.  Most games I've played seem to be designed for people who either have few demands on their time (singles, students, etc.) or who are willing to ignore those demands in favor or the game.  I can't be the only one who's read about marriages falling apart due to Everquest.  I certainly don't want to play a game where I can max out a character over a long weekend, but I'd like to be able to make some measurable progress playing 4-5 hours a week.  If I could max out a character in a year, I'd be thrilled.  I realize that the vast majority of people who post on message boards and participate in beta tests are able to devote 20 hours a week to their chosen game.  However, I can't help but believe that there are more people out there like me looking for a game that does not reward players mainly for time spent.

I couldn't have said it myself. I dont play near as much as I'd like to, or as much as I read about playing. read: I surf at work, just dont play.
But I do play 6-10 hours a week and would like to see "measurable" advancement in that time. WoW is supposed to be friendly to our kind of game play.

    I hope so...

I think you are mistaken, there is only WoW.

In defence of that other game, changing the contrast, brightness, and gamma will make the colors look 100 times better. I felt it looked washed out until I fiddled with the settings for contrast and so on. Only problem is that doing so will bork your desktop settings, unlike every other game I've played that reset the settings back if you adjusted gamma, etc in game.

Beyond that, they're both fun. WoW is much more casual/newb friendly, while the 'other' game has more depth to it. Since I have access to both games, I've only logged into WoW twice, when the servers for the 'other' game were down. Part of that is from burnout from catassing during the stress test. Make what you will of all that.

More on the level grind. I got to level 8 after about 5-6 hours of play time which isn't bad. I just found that the quests at that level are impossile to solo or even with 2 people. You need a group. I don't mind grouping but at level 8 your still new and don't have many friends to tap in game. It's a grind (to me anyways) to try and track people down willing to help you on a quest. At level 8 in WoW at least I was still able to solo and progress instead of wondering around killing crabs in the sewers waiting for help to come by. The Wow quests seem to keep puching you out into the world too. By level 8 I was all over the place. In 8 in the "other" game I had hardly seen any of the world at all.

I don't understand people's predisposition to bash another game when BOTH arent even released yet.  I mean come on...how old are you guys to get your jollies off on bashing a game you never played. The same goes for the EQ players who bash WoW.

It's pretty damn retarded if you ask me.  Constant bickering and the War of words with these two mmorpgs has brought the nerdom wars away from Star Wars Vs Star Trek and focused their fury on WoW Vs EQ2.

Take that sig for example.  What's the purpose? To generate a few laughs over a game you hate yet never played? Come on guys...I expect more maturity here than that.

This whole damn thing is like WestSide Story revisited but with a twist; both parties hate the other party without even meeting the other party. Hell, at least in West Side story, they met their enemies and somewhat of a reason to dislike each other. These two games havent even been released yet.

Oh yeah, West Side story revisited:

WOW is a cruel game.  Here is why...

For stress test I started a NE rogue and played him to 16, an orc warlock to 14, then switched to a dwarf warrior, Durgin, and played him to 22.

On the next to last day of the stress test I (the Dwarf warrior) am hanging out in the human lands at a small town on the edge of a lake.  The area is surrounded by a clan of orcs.  Well, I walk out onto the pier and there is this girl there who tells me this sad story about dropping her necklace into the lake.  Normally I am a hard ass dwarf but I did feel sorry for her and promised to find it and return it.

Well...  I swam around that SOB - GD lake for two damn days and THERE WAS NO NECKLACE...ANYWHERE.  Then BAM booted from stress test.

So somewhere in the lands of WoW there is this poor little girl sitting on a pier waiting expectantly for this gallant dwarf to return with her necklace.  She will, in all honesty, probably not recover and is doomed to a lifetime of therapy and unfulfilling relationships due to trust issues because when she was a kid this dwarf promised to return her necklace and then seemingly abandoned her.

    Shame Blizzard!

Naw, after you were saved, her world began to crumble around her. The lake boiled, the moon bled, the ground quaked. Moments later, the girl and everything she knew collapsed and was violently sucked into oblivion.

Ever seen Tron? that theroy is oddly familiar with being derezzed.... the Idea our Charaters are avatars of us playing in a virtual world that mimics our own but bending to our complete will.

Her reality crumbled simular to that of Kingdom Hearts most likely.

I was pretty young when Tron came out and I haven't yet revisited it.
